B. Certification Update 1. The new Certification Examinations in Neurology and Child Neurology have been redesigned from the old Part I Examinations. More clinical vignettes Audio and video vignettes (real and simulated patients) 2. A formal definition of Board Eligibility has been developed. Seven years from residency graduation 3. Certification fees have been reduced another 7% in 2014. There will be no fee increase in 2015 4

E. MOC Update 1. The ABPN had to begin reporting the MOC status of all diplomates in 2012. Meeting MOC Requirements Not Meeting MOC Requirements Not Meeting MOC Requirements and Not Required To Do So Life-time certificate holders not participating in MOC 2. The ABPN began its new Continuous MOC Program (C- MOC) for all diplomates certified or recertified in 2012 or later. Same MOC requirements Annual registration on the ABPN folio Annual registration fee ($175 in 2013) No additional fee for one MOC examination in 10 years 7
3. The ABPN will give MOC credit for completing an ACGME-accredited subspecialty fellowship and passing an ABPN subspecialty examination. Begins in 2012 One 3-year block of MOC requirements waived 4. Life-time certificate holders may now join the C-MOC in two ways. Pass the MOC examination Register for C-MOC, complete 3 years of required MOC activities, and pass the MOC examination within 3 years 5. The ABMS has developed new MOC Standards for 2015. More flexibility for Member Boards More options for feedback requirements 8
F. New ABPN Subspecialties 1. Epilepsy First examination given in the Fall of 2013 2. Brain Injury Medicine Multispecialty subspecialty ABPMR, ABPN, ABFM Both neurologists and psychiatrists are eligible First examination in 2014 9
G. ABPN Faculty Fellowship 1. The ABPN has established a new Faculty Fellowship Program to promote innovative education and/or evaluation for psychiatry and neurology residents or practitioners. Four psychiatry and four neurology faculty supported per year Each ABPN Fellow will receive $50,000 per year for two years 2. The Faculty Fellowship Selection Committee consists of: 4 ABPN Directors 1 Psychiatry Program Director (Deborah Cowley, M.D. Washington) 1 Neurology Program Director (Jaffar Khan, M.D. Emory) 1 Psychiatry Chair (Steven Epstein, M.D. George Washington) 1 Neurology Chair (Allison Brashear, M.D. Wake Forest) 3. The deadline for applications is August 18, 2014. 10

H. ABPN Senior Resident Administrative Fellowship 1. One senior psychiatry resident and one senior neurology resident will be selected each year to spend three months at the ABPN. 2. ABPN Fellows will have an organized and stimulating experience. Learn about the structure and function of the ABPN and the major professional organizations in psychiatry and neurology Complete a research project of their choice that has relevance to the ABPN and is suitable for presentation and publication Participate in a weekly administrative seminar Accompany the ABPN President and CEO to professional meetings 13
I. ABPN Crucial Issues Forum on Subspecialties 1. The ABPN has decided to fund an annual Crucial Issues Forum on topics of importance to psychiatry and neurology. 2. The first Crucial Issue Forum on Subspecialties will take place in Chicago on April 6-7, 2014. The Current Status of ABPN Subspecialties The Current Status and Future Directors for Subspecialties in American Medicine Should the ABPN Continue to Recognize New Subspecialties? Should Subspecialty Training Be Allowed to Occur During General Residency Training? Should the ABPN Continue to Require Certification/MOC in a General Specialty as a Prerequisite for Certification/MOC in a Subspecialty? 3. Professional organizations in psychiatry and neurology will be asked to nominate one representative to attend the Forum. 14
