Understanding Your Mark: You need to earn a grade of AT LEAST 50% to earn a credit in this course. Your grade in this course will be based on the following criteria: 1. Cluster #1: Reproduction ----------------------20% Marks for this Unit will be based: 60% on Assignments and Projects and 40% on Tests and Quizzes 2. Cluster #2: Atoms & Elements -----------------20% Marks for this Unit will be based: 60% on Assignments, Lab Activities and Investigations and 40% on Tests and Quizzes 3. Cluster #3: Nature of Electricity ---------------20% Marks for this Unit will be based: 60% on Assignments, Lab Activities and Investigations and 40% on Tests and Quizzes 4. Cluster #4: Exploring the Universe ------------10% Time Permitting Marks for this Unit will be based: 50% on Research and Investigation Assignments and 50% on Tests and Quizzes 5. Final Examination -------------------------------30% At the end of the course you will write a cumulative exam that will test your understanding of the major concepts of each cluster of the course Your Overall Course Mark is calculated this way: Unit Unit Mark (%) Overall Atoms & Elements x 0.2 Reproduction x 0.2 Electricity x 0.2 Space x 0.1 Final Exam x 0.3 Total Course Mark
Understanding Your Mark: You need to earn a grade of AT LEAST 50% to earn a credit in this course. Understanding WHERE your mark comes from will allow you to see HOW you can be successful in this course. For each unit 60% of the mark comes from Work (Assignments, Projects, Quick Quizzes and Homework Checks) while the other 40% comes from Tests To figure out your mark in a Unit, you should: 1. Keep track of all the work that you have been assigned and how many marks each item is worth 2. Record your results in two categories (Work and Tests) 3. Total up your marks and calculate your percentage mark for each category 4. Calculate your overall mark using the weighting factors for each category For example: Unit: Atoms & Elements (Chemistry) Work (Assignments, Projects, Homework Checks, Quick Quizzes) Item Due Date Mark Out Of % Overall Assignment #1 2/14/10 16 20 Assignment #2 2/18/10 15 20 Assignment #3 2/22/10 17 20 Lab #1 2/23/10 12 16 Total 60 76 79 x 0.6 Work Total Tests (Unit Tests, Mid Unit Tests, Quizzes) 47 Item Date Mark Out Of % Overall Quiz #1 2/19/10 14 20 Quiz #2 2/24/10 16 20 Unit Test 2/28/10 41 50 Total 71 90 64 x 0.4 Test Total 26 47 + 26 = 73 Work Total Test Total Unit Mark
Mark Tracker: Unit: Work (Assignments, Projects, Homework Checks, Quick Quizzes) Item Due Date Mark Out Of % Overall Total x 0.6 Work Total Tests (Unit Tests, Mid Unit Tests, Quizzes) Item Date Mark Out Of % Overall Total x 0.4 Test Total + = Work Total Test Total Unit Mark
