COLLECT REFLECT SHARE Introduction and Tutorial

GETTING STARTED WITH YOUR WITTFOLIO Welcome to the WittFolio, an online environment that will help you COLLECT your college work and experiences, REFLECT on your experiences, and ultimately create a narrative about yourself to SHARE with potential employers, internships, and graduate schools. SETUP ONEDRIVE Before logging into the WittFolio, we need to make sure everything is set up. First go to Office365 at http://portal.office.com. Log in using your Wittenberg username and password. Click the OneDrive icon on the homepage. If it isn t set up, you will be asked to OK the setup of OneDrive. It might take a few minutes, but you will then see something like: LOG INTO WITTFOLIO Go to the WittFolio homepage at: http://wittfolio.wittenberg.edu. You may be asked to sign in using a Microsoft login page. This is normal. Once you have logged in you will see the homepage. On the homepage you will see two columns. The first lists the three sections of the WittFolio: COLLECT(ONEDRIVE), REFLECT, and SHARE. The second is WittPaws. These are reminders that will change throughout the semester. The reminders provide you guidance about what you can do to keep upto-date with your WittFolio. Clicking on a WittPaws will take you to different sections of the WittFolio. If you can see this page, you are ready to move on. If not, please contact the Solution Center (solutions@wittenberg.edu). PRIVACY AND WITTFOLIO Each section of the WittFolio assumes a different level of privacy and it is important to make this clear. COLLECT(ONEDRIVE) is the most private. No one will be able to see the files you add to this space. REFLECT is more public. Faculty/staff are able to see your tiles (explained below) and all the files and text included in those tiles. Just know that adding a file to a tile makes that file accessible to faculty/staff (but not students or people outside of Wittenberg). SHARE will be made up of tutorials for you to create a website, LinkedIn page, Merit page, or other online public presentations of yourself.

WITTFOLIO COLLECT (ONEDRIVE) As you start your college career you should have a plan for organizing all the work that you do. Not only will this help you keep track of your work but you will also find that there are times when you need to find things you have done months or years before. Many majors require you to provide a portfolio of your work. Potential employers may want to see a sample of your best work. Or sometimes professors might not get the email with the assignment you turned in and you need to give them another copy. Whatever the case, having an organizational plan for your work will help. In this tutorial we give you one option that would serve you well going forward. You might already have a system that works for you. If so, feel free to use that. GETTING STARTED Log into your WITTFOLIO at http://wittfolio.wittenberg.edu. Click on COLLECT (ONEDRIVE). Your COLLECT (ONEDRIVE) will open in a new window or tab. This is an online storage space with unlimited capacity. You can save all of your documents here and know that they are backed up and secure. You don t have to worry about losing your work if your computer crashes or is lost. COLLECT (ONEDRIVE) is part of Office 365, which you have complete access to as a Wittenberg student. If you click on the icon in the top left corner, you can see all the applications available to you. GETTING ORGANIZED Your COLLECT (ONEDRIVE) contains a folder named Wittfolio. This is used to store critical system files. DO NOT DELETE OR MODIFY THE WITTFOLIO FOLDER!!! Let s start by creating a new folder. Click New and then New Folder. Let s call it Coursework. This will be the main folder where you can keep files you use for classes. It will probably be easier if you have a folder for each class too. So click on Coursework and let s create a folder for each class you are taking. Click New and then New Folder and name it for a class you are currently in. Continue doing this for each class you have this semester. How do you get back to the main section? Notice at the top that it says Documents > Coursework. This shows you where you are in the folders. Click on Documents and you will return to the top menu. You will do more than classes at Wittenberg so we encourage you to create folders for other areas as well. You might consider creating folders with the following names: Campus Involvement Community Engagement Health and Sport Employment and Research These titles match the categories in the REFLECT section and might provide an easy way for you to find what you are looking for.

CREATING DOCUMENTS Your COLLECT (ONEDRIVE) space is linked to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These are free for you to use and make it easy to save and share your files with others on campus. Click New and then Word Document. It will open Word Online and you can write papers here. Start by giving your document a name. You do this by clicking Document in the black bar at the top. Start typing the title of your document. The nice thing is that your document will now autosave as you work. You will never lose a file again because you didn t save it!! To go back to COLLECT (ONEDRIVE), click the icon in the top left and then click OneDrive. You will now see your newly created Word document. If you want to move your new document, click to the left of the document name and a checkmark will appear. Click More in the menu above and you will see Move or Copy as an option. If you already have documents on your computer, you can add them to OneDrive by dragging them into the browser window. SHARING OR DOWNLOADING DOCUMENTS If you need to send your paper to someone else, you can either download it and send as an attachment. Or, you can share it. To download the document, select the file by clicking just to the left of it. A checkmark will appear and it will be highlighted. If you select More, you will see Download as an option. Now you have your file on your computer. Alternatively, you can Share it. Click the sharing column on the line that has your document (it should say Only you now). In the box that pops up, click Invite people. This is linked to our email system so you should be able to find anyone at Wittenberg by entering their name. A FEW ADDITIONAL NOTES You want to choose whether the person can edit your document or not (see the box that says, Can edit? Click it and change to Can View if you only want them to see the document. This will send them an email with a link that they can click on and get your paper. You may have noticed that when you go to your student email account you are using Office365. You can get to your OneDrive folder that way too. It is all the same thing. Remember, DO NOT DELETE THE WITTFOLIO FOLDER. If you do this, everything you have put into the WittFolio will be gone. If you do this by accident, go immediately to the Solution Center. It can be restored, but only within a limited time period. OneDrive and Office365 have a whole host of additional features that you can try out. We ve only covered the basics. If you have any questions, feel free to go to the Solution Center in Thomas Library and they will be happy to help.

WITTFOLIO REFLECT While it is hard to imagine right now, in a few years you will be getting ready to graduate. That means you will have to write a resume and present to potential employers a picture of your accomplishments and what you have to offer. Before that, you will apply for internships, scholarships, competitive programs, and summer jobs. In each case, you need to have a record of what you have done. If you are like most people, remembering what you did last semester is difficult let alone remembering what you did your first year at Wittenberg. REFLECT provides a way to help you keep track of all of your experiences and accomplishments. But, it does more than that. REFLECT provides a way for you to enter reflections on your experiences, link documents or videos that illustrate your work, and organize these based on different categories. It is a way to mark your best work, draw connections, and ultimately prepare yourself to share your accomplishments with others. GETTING STARTED Log into your WittFolio at http://wittfolio.wittenberg.edu. Click on REFLECT. REFLECT is divided into three sections. On the left is a menu with different categories. The top is a header with information that will change as we navigate through the menu. Below the red line is where tiles that represent your experiences at Wittenberg will be added. Let's start by looking through the menu. If you have done the tutorial on COLLECT (ONEDRIVE), you might notice that we created folders with the same names as the categories in the menu. That might help you find files in the future. Click on "About Me". You can see that it expands to show that there are three categories under "About Me" - "Reflection and Goals", "21st Century Liberal Arts", and "Resume Ideas". You will also see that the header has changed to reflect that you have clicked on "About Me". It includes some information about this category so you know what we were thinking about when we created it. Let's look through a few more categories. First, click on "About Me" to collapse the category and then click on "Campus Involvement". You will find subcategories about the different types of campus organizations including a subcategory titled "Student Organizations" that can be used to capture any organization. Clicking on the various categories provides descriptions in the header about what each term means. Now, click on "Coursework" and then on "General Education". You will see a list of categories that make up the general education learning goals attached to specific courses. Click on "Writing (E/W)". Notice that the header gives you the learning goal attached to these courses. This helps you understand what we have in mind when we ask you to take various classes. Feel free to click through the various goals to see what makes up your general education curriculum. The categories on the left are intended to give you an idea of what we mean by our mission statement: Wittenberg University provides a liberal arts education dedicated to intellectual inquiry and wholeness of person within a diverse residential community. The categories and headings challenge you to find opportunities that let you fill many categories with experiences and examples of your work.

ADD A TILE The heart of REFLECT are the tiles you create that capture your experiences and accomplishments. As you click through the categories you will notice that many have an "Add Tile" tile. To begin, let's go to "Coursework" - "General Education" Writing. Since everyone takes English 101, let s add a tile based on that experience. Click on the "Add Tile" tile. The Add Tile page starts with instructions and ideas for writing reflections and adding files. To save space, they begin with some text hidden. Click Read More to read the suggestions for reflections and files. The ideas will be different depending on what category you are adding a tile to. Below the instructions, you will see five places to add content. All tiles must have a title and description. In addition, there is a space to add a longer reflection or to comment more completely on the experience you are capturing in the tile. At the bottom of the form is a place to either add a file or website link. In between the reflection and place for files you can add additional tags to the tile (more on that in a bit). TITLE (REQUIRED) Since we are adding information based on English 101, let s call this tile English 101 Introduction to Expository Writing. TILE DESCRIPTION (REQUIRED) Every English 101 class has a different theme. What was the theme of your English class? If it didn t have a theme, what is (or was) the course about? REFLECTION (OPTIONAL) The reflection space can be used in any way that you see fit. For now, let s leave it blank. We can think about different ideas for this space a little later. Leave it blank for now. ADD MORE TAGS (OPTIONAL) Tags are used to link each tile to categories in the menu. You will see that this tile already has the tag Writing (E/W). That is because you started this tile from that place in the menu. You might find that this tile would fit in more than one category. This is a place to add additional categories so that the tile shows up in different places. We will return to this idea. Leave it blank for now. ADD FILES AND LINKS (OPTIONAL) You may want to add a file to this tile or link to something on the web related to your experience. You will find different options for adding files and internet links here. For now, let s leave it blank. To complete the tile, click Save at the bottom.

VIEWING AND EDITING TILES The tile you just created English 101 is now visible in the tile portion of REFLECT. Click on the tile s icon. This will open a new window where you can see the contents of the tile. We don t have much entered (only a title and description). Let s add more to this tile. To edit the tile, first click the triangle in the top right corner of the tile to see the expanded view. There are a few things to notice. First, the description you wrote for the tile is visible. This let s you easily remember what this tile is about. Second, it shows the tags currently attached to the tile. These tags tell you where the tile can be found. Notice that the tags on the tile are: Coursework; General Education; and Writing (E/W). Looking at the menu on the left, you might notice that those are the categories you selected before clicking Add Tile. At the bottom of the extended tile is a pencil icon. Click on that to edit the tile. Editing a tile brings up a screen that is similar to the one you used when creating the tile. Notice that the Title and Tile Description are filled in but the other fields are blank. You can add and/or change this information at any time. Let s begin by adding a reflection to the English 101 tile. For now, just type This class helped me with my writing. You can return and replace this with a more thoughtful reflection later. Now, let s add a file to the English 101 tile. Click on Add a File and select Add file from computer. You can navigate to any file that you want to attach it. I am going to upload the syllabus from this course as the document I want to save. Alternatively, you can add a file by browsing your COLLECT (ONEDRIVE). If you set up your COLLECT (ONEDRIVE) folders like we suggested, you should have folders that have the same names as the menu. This might make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. clicking on a file highlights it. When you save the tile, the collect file will be attached. Click save. You should see the English 101 tile in the same place. Click on the icon and see what has changed. Now you can see your reflection sentence ( This class helped me with my writing. ) along with a link to the file. Clicking that link will download the file to your computer.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF TILES Tiles can be used to capture many different types of experiences and work. We just created a tile for a class that you took English 101. This tile was focused on the entire class. But, you could have created a tile for this class focused on one of the papers you wrote. Or a presentation you delivered. Or a website you created. The type of tile you create changes slightly how you think about the various elements of a tile. We talk through three types of files, but you might find different ways to use tiles that fit your needs. BASIC TILE This tile includes a title and description and little else. The point is to create a tile that records in your WittFolio that you did something. You might use basic tiles to remember that you participated in a service activity, took a course, ran a 5K, joined a student organization, played an intramural sport, or or any number of things you might do. Example: English 101 tile with title and description. EXPERIENCE TILE These tiles differ from basic tiles by including a reflection and maybe a file or website. The focus is on a complete experience, like an entire course, internship, job, student organization, etc. The reflection emphasizes the value of the experience for you and how it might fit into your overall plan. Any files that are added tend to be reference material, like syllabi from courses or websites of jobs that you have held. Example: English 101 tile with reflection on the course and syllabus attached. PROJECT TILE These tiles are focused on the work contained in the file or website attached to the tile. Because of this, the title references the file, the description summarizes the assignment or project, and the reflection is about what you learned as you produced this work. Example: Paper from English 101 course with reflection on writing the paper.. In many instances, you might begin by creating basic tiles. As experiences end, you can add reflections to these basic tiles and convert them into experience tiles. You might also have a specific example of work you did in that experience that deserves its own tile. So, you might create a project tile as well.

WORKING WITH TAGS Tags are one of the most powerful aspects of the WittFolio. They allow you to associate your tiles with multiple categories reflecting the multifaceted aspects of your work. To understand how this works it will help to create a few tiles. For illustration we will build some basic tiles to work with. Navigate to: Campus Involvement Student Organizations Click Add Tile and fill out the following Title: Student Organization Demo Tile Description: Demo tile Click Save Navigate to: Community Engagement Service Click Add Tile and fill out the following Title: Community Service Demo Tile Description: Demo tile Click Save Navigate to: Health and Sport Varsity Sport Click Add Tile and fill out the following Title: Varsity Sport Demo Tile Description: Demo tile Click Save If you haven t already created this tile, also add the following tile: Navigate to: Coursework General Education Writing (E,W) Click Add Tile and fill out the following Title: English 101 Introduction to Expository Writing Tile Description: Demo tile Click Save TAGS AND CATEGORIES Click on All Categories in the menu and you should see the 4 tiles you just created. Now click on Campus Involvement. You should only see the Student Organization Demo tile left. That is because it is the only tile that has Campus Involvement as one of its tags. Click on Campus Ministries. All the tiles disappear because you don t have any tiles with Campus Ministries as one of the tags. Click on Student Organizations. The Student Organization Demo tile reappears because it has Student Organization as a tag. To confirm this, click the triangle on the top right of the Student Organization Demo tile and you will see the two tags listed. Return to All Categories

EXAMPLE 1 FITTING TILES INTO MULTIPLE CATEGORIES Suppose you realize that your Student Organization experience was focused on Community Service. Perhaps you joined a service organization that did a lot of volunteer work in Springfield. You can have your student organization tile show up in Community Engagement Service too. Edit the Student Organization Demo tile by clicking the triangle in the top right corner and then the pencil in the bottom right. You will see a box with the current tags listed. If you click in it, you will see a drop-down list of all the tags in the WittFolio. You can scroll to find your tags or just start typing. All you need to enter is the subcategory (it will automatically add tags for the categories that are higher up). In this case, you can start typing service. Select service and then Save. Notice that if you click on Community Engagement in the menu that you will see both the Community Service Demo tile AND the Student Organization Demo tile. This is because you just added the service tag (and thus automatically the Community Engagement tag). Click on service and you see that both tags remain. EXAMPLE 2 KEY ABOUT ME TAGS Click on About Me. There are two categories that you might use a lot. The first is the resume ideas category. You can tag any tile you create with the resume tag if you think it might be a good thing for including in your future resume. It will then show up under this category. The second is the 21 st Century Liberal Arts category. Click on the 21 st Century Liberal Arts category. This expands to show 15 skills and characteristics. The list is a combination of skills identified by the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) as essential learning outcomes for 21 st century students. We have also added characteristics that derive from Wittenberg s mission statement. These terms will be helpful to you as you try to identify your strengths and the types of skills and characteristics you have to offer to employers, graduate schools, community organizations, etc. As you click on each term, the header will give you a definition of that skill or attribute as we understand it (or as defined by the AAC&U). We encourage you to add these tags to all of the tiles where they apply. Go back to All Categories. Suppose you hold a leadership position on your varsity sports team. You will want to tag this in your Varsity Sports Demo tile. Edit your Varsity Sports Demo (Click to expand the tile and then click the pencil). Start typing in Leadership. You will see both Leadership and Leadership Programs. These are different things. Select Leadership and the Save. You will now see that the Varsity Sport Demo tile shows up under Leadership.

WITTFOLIO SHARE This section is coming soon! Stay tuned for announcements later in the year. NEXT STEPS You have finished the WittFolio tutorial! Congratulations! Now it is time to put these lessons to use. Here are some ideas to get you started. ENTER BASIC TILES The best way to get started is to enter basic tiles for all of your classes and activities. Begin with your classes. Are any of them general education classes? Enter them under the correct general education category. Are there classes that don t fit a category? Enter those under electives. Look through the other categories and think about where your other activities might go. Do you play a sport? Are you a member of a student organization or two? Have you had any jobs in the past? TRANSFER FILES TO COLLECT(ONEDRIVE) During the tutorial you created folders to hold you documents. If you have things saved on your computer, consider moving them into COLLECT (ONEDRIVE). Create folders for your various organizations and experiences and see if you have any documents that you can put into those folders. This is the easiest way to have files ready to include in your tiles. ENRICH YOUR BASIC TILES With a set of basic tiles, you can add reflections and files. As you look at the documents you have from your experiences, consider adding a Project Tile that reflects on the creation of that document.
