Responsible to: Headteacher, Teacher in Charge of the Centre Main purpose of Post To plan and implement work programmes with individuals or groups of pupils to promote effective teaching and learning To manage and organise the pupils and the classroom To create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment To promote the inclusion of all pupils Teaching Responsibilities Teaching designated class or groups of children Use a range of teaching strategies which take into account the special educational needs of each child Teaching a broad, well-balanced curriculum appropriate to the primary school age range. This should incorporate cross-curricular skills, themes and dimensions Assessing and meeting individual children s needs Marking and monitoring the children s work Recording children s progress and development in accordance with National Curriculum assessments and contributing to a detailed Annual Review for each child Ensuring continuity, development and progress for the children Organisational Responsibilities Preparing forecasts and completing any records of work, profiles, checklists, reports adopted for use by the Centre Working and liaising with all other adults in the Centre Liaising with mainstream staff in the course of implementing the policy of integration of Centre children in the mainstream In the absence of the Teacher in Charge to oversee the organisation and running of the Centre Pastoral Responsibilities Contributing to the general well-being of the children in accordance with the ethos of the school Helping children to develop a sense of self-worth and self-discipline Ensuring the safety and welfare of all children. Other Responsibilities Participating in staff meetings and In-Service Training both as part of a team and as an individual. Participating in both Centre and mainstream meetings, as appropriate.
