~~Academics~~ Primary : Grandparents Day Essay Competition: 'Grandparents Day' was celebrated internationally on Sunday 10 th of September, 2017. The DPS STS Junior School celebrated this grandiose occasion on Thursday, 14 th September, 2017. All the students of grade-1 to 4 participated in an essay writing competition during their respective English classes. The students enthusiastically filled their papers with notes of love, respect and adoration for their grandparents. The names of the winners will be announced at a later date in a special assembly. Pre Primary : Play Dough Activity: The students of Play Group had an activity playing with dough of various colours on Sunday, 10 th September, 2017. They were amazed with the divergent shapes they created during the activity. Taking Care of Oneself: The little stars of Play Group performed another enthralling life skill activity. They were shown a video on, how to brush your teeth and comb your hair, followed by brushing their teeth and combing their hair after a demonstration by the teachers. Learning Letters: The students of Nursery made angels out of paper, after they were shown the letter A. After completion, the angels were given to the students to take home. The little learners loved making angels with paper. After the introduction to the letter E, the students of Nursery had to make an elephant collage. The children were thrilled to complete their craft work. The letter f was introduced to the students of Pre KG. They had fun tracing the letter and learning the correct stroke. The children also made fans in which they pasted the letter f.

Activity on Parts of the Body: The students of Pre KG learnt the names of the parts of the body, on Wednesday, 13 th September, 2017. They concluded the lesson by pasting pictures of body parts on chart papers. Many and Few: The students of Pre KG participated in a group activity on learning the concept of many and few. The children actively participated in the lesson in which they counted and coloured pictures to differentiate between many and few objects. Use of Sense Organs: The students of KG were taught about the significance of the sense of taste on Monday, 11 th of September, 2017. The teachers highlighted the importance by exposing the students to different tastes such as sweet, spicy, bitter and sour. The students also used their sense of sight, hearing, and smell to describe different places in and outside of school. Parts of the Body: The students of KG actively engaged themselves in learning the names of the body parts on Wednesday, 20 th September, 2017, and prepared a chart on the body parts to put up in their classroom. Knowing A Famous Personality: A project work was organized for the students of KG to enrich their general knowledge on Thursday, 20th September, 2017. They had to research and collect information about the Nobel Laureate, and discuss his great works with their peers. Many students had collected informative articles and prepared attractive posters on Rabindranath Tagore. Activity on Numbers: The students of KG learnt the names of numbers on Wednesday, 20 th September, 2017. They repeated the names of the numbers after their teacher and copied the names in their exercise books. The students had an interesting activity recognizing variety of numbers. The teacher threw balls at the numbers and children recognized and named the numbers.

~~Co-curricular Activities~~ Primary : Eid-Ul-Adha Celebration: On Wednesday, 20 th of September, 2017, the students of grades 1 to 4 celebrated Eid-Ul-Adha through a cultural programme at the Junior School Campus Auditorium. The Head of Junior School, Ms. Sumona Karim and Head of Primary Section, Ms. Juliet Gloria Gomes enjoyed the programme along with our enthusiastic students. The programme commenced with the recitation of Surah Fatiha and translation followed by a short discussion on the true values of Eid. The essence of Eid was captured beautifully through dance, music and recitation of poetry by the talented students of the Primary Section. After School Activity Programme (ASP): The ASP Programme of the Primary Section is running in full swing. The students of grades 1-4 are having Art and Craft, Sports, Music, Dance, Aerobics, Gymnastics, Karate, Literacy, Drama, Mathematics, Science, C. Sc, French, Hindi, DIY( Do It Yourself) and Cooking club activities on a daily basis. Swimming Classes of Grade-1-4: Grades- 1 to 4 are having regular swimming classes starting from 15 th September, 2017, in the Junior School Campus where all the students are participating. Weekend swimming classes are also being held in the Senior School Swimming pool. Middle School Swimming Meet: DPS STS Junior School participated in the AISD Middle School Swimming Meet that was held at American International School Dhaka on Friday, 29th September, 2017. Two students, Seah Pramusita Hassan from grade 3 (Lagoon) & Sithuli Ruwanya Karunagoda from grade 4 (Columbus), took part in the Meet and won second prizes in their respective categories. The sports teachers accompanied the students and supervised them throughout the event.

March Past Drill Competition: The March Past Competition was held on Monday, 25 th September, 2017, in the Junior School Basketball court. The students of grade-3 and 4 marched around the basketball court with their respective houses and displayed discipline and uniformity in a group. They matched steps with each other and celebrated the spirit of unity and teamwork together with the beats of drums in synchronization.

Pre-Primary : Grandparents Day Celebration: Grandparents Day was celebrated by the Pre Primary section on Thursday, 14th September, 2017, in the Junior School Campus. The grandparents were invited to spend time with their grandchildren. The Grandparents shared their valuable experiences, sang melodious songs, shared stories and played pillow passing with their little angels. The children prepared beautiful cards for their grandparents as a token of love and appreciation.the grandparents were offered refreshments and were thanked for taking the time to attend the programme. Cooking Activity: The Play Group students actively participated in making Milk Shake on Thursday, 21 st September, 2017. They made the delicious beverage which they shared with their teachers and friends. Life Skill Activity: The youngsters of Play group were given a demonstration on The proper posture to sit on a chair, on Monday 25 th September, 2017. After the presentation, the children were observed practicing this skill with much enthusiasm. Celebrating Eid - Ul Adha: The students of Nursery celebrated Eid Ul Adha on Monday, 11 th September, 2017. The children came to school attired in their Eid dress on that day. They also learnt the significance of Eid-Ul-Adha and shared snacks with their peers.

Printing Activity: The students of Pre KG had fun doing a printing activity, by dipping pieces of okra in poster colours and stamping them on their activity books. The children were fascinated to create these colourful masterpieces. Achievements: 2017 Asia Contemporary Art Exhibition- ASIA WOMEN ARTISTS was attended by our very own Junior School Art Teacher, Ms. Bubly Barna on 1st and 2nd September, 2017, in Jeonbuk Museum of Art, South Korea. She was specially selected and invited to showcase a few of her conceptual masterpieces titled as Self Analysis of Contemporary Women which portrayed the lives of Bangladeshi women, our culture and our cultural prejudices. It was a wonderful opportunity and a huge honour to be able to exhibit her work with 24 other women artists from 10 Asian countries. She also attended the International Women s Art Conference-2017, followed by the exhibition and shared her own perspective on the correlation of art and culture in Bangladesh. Ms. Nahid Tabassum, the Head of English Department, Primary Section, attended a two days long training workshop by BELTA- Southeast University Language Education Programme in collaboration with THT (Teachers Helping Teachers). The training workshop was held on 21 st and 22 nd September, 2017, in Southeast University Campus, Tejgaon, Dhaka. The aim of the training was to teach teachers new techniques for a classic pedagogy.

Music Teacher of Primary Section, Mr. Babul Hossain has completed a two-year degree Higher Diploma Course in Nazrul s Song Session: 2015-2017, securing the 1st position in his class, and Classical Nazrul Song Course Session: 2016-2017 from Nazrul Institute, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Workshops and Trainings: Primary Teachers Training Workshop: Our in-house trainer, Ms. Mehjabeen Rashid conducted an English Language Workshop for the teachers of Primary section on Thursday, 21st September, 2017, focusing on the common errors and confusions in English Language. The trainer discussed the standard pronunciation of certain words and explained the proper uses and applications of prepositions in different situations and contexts. The session was really helpful for the teachers.
