Family Programs at the Jewish Museum offer visitors of all ages the opportunity to connect with the Museum s renowned collection and exhibitions, as well as with one another. 2 Josh & the Jamtones Concerts Our calendar of family concerts offers an eclectic range of hip kids music performed by award-winning musicians for all ages to enjoy. Groove and giggle together with songs from albums Mustache and Sing, Dance and Underpants, and have some unpredictable fun. Jump to the roots-reggae-pop tunes of Josh & the Jamtones with sounds that bring whole families to their feet. Fronted by singer/songwriter Josh Shriber, the Jamtones band has taken the kindie music scene by storm with rock-and-roll dance parties. Gustafer Yellowgold Sunday, October 16 Ages 3 8 Alex & the Kaleidoscope Sunday, November 20 Oran Etkin Sunday, December 25 Ages 2 7 Led by award-winning illustrator and songwriter Morgan Taylor, Gustafer Yellowgold blends live music and original animation in what The New York Times calls a cross between Yellow Submarine and Dr. Seuss. Soak up tunes about our magnificent earth and sun for the holiday of Sukkot! Emmy Award-winning children s entertainer Alex Mitnick and his group of fun-loving musicians have been captivating families with their fresh approach to music for more than a decade. From pop beats to island rhythms, take a multicultural musical journey in this feel-good experience. Featuring klezmer, jazz, and the music of Africa, Oran Etkin s performances weave global melodies and rhythms into a gumbo of goodness. Enjoy tunes from Wake Up Clarinet! and Gathering Light in honor of Hanukkah in this musical world party. Unique in New York City, our simulated dig highlights replicas from ancient to modern times in a handson experience. On Archaeology Mondays, hunt for a featured artifact, collect stamps in a special passport each visit, and receive a gift after your third dig adventure! Located in the Children s Exhibition on Floor 4 The artists represented in the exhibition Take Me (I m Yours) created art with the intention of giving works away! Inspired by this show, make your own handprinted cards with nature imagery to share with friends during the Sukkot holiday. Located in the art studio on Floor 4 During our vacation week art workshops, design your own colorful family portrait inspired by the exhibition John Singer Sargent s Mrs. Carl Meyer and Her Children. Create a unique story and setting for this fanciful scene of your family. Located in the art studio on Floor 4 Examine art on view and create a work of your own in these programs for families with children who have developmental and learning disabilities. Series packages (include four programs): $80 General; $72 Jewish Museum Family Members Meets in the Skirball Lobby on Floor 1 Picture This! Sundays, September 25, October 9, November 20, & December 25 10 am 12:30 pm Ages 4 10 Each Picture This! begins with a 10 am gallery program that includes interactive activities, art viewing, and a PJ Library collection book reading. At 10:45 am head to the art studio to create original artworks and enjoy a snack. Finish up the program with an concert featuring an acclaimed performer. See pages 2 & 3 for information on concert dates. This program is supported through a grant from PJ Library, a program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. Family Day Family Days are immersive celebrations that focus on an exhibition or holiday and include large-scale art workshops, gallery tours, and renowned children s performers. Free with Museum Admission Located in Scheuer Auditorium on Floor 2 Hanukkah Family Day Sunday, December 18 Noon 4 pm Celebrate the festival of lights as a family at the Jewish Museum! Build a sculptural Hanukkah lamp with funky found objects a Jewish Museum tradition. Dance to the tunes of Shirlala and watch a unique Hanukkah story come to life through a drawing performance by Jeff Hopkins. Explore the Museum s world-famous collection of Hanukkah lamps. Sundays Sundays are for families at the Jewish Museum. Beginning September 11, join us for a variety of exciting family programs that take place regularly in the art studio and galleries. Ticket Information Ticketed programs are free for children under 2 years old. Ticket prices for events at the Museum include admission to the galleries on the day of the program. Free with Museum Admission Online By Phone In Person Studio Art Sessions 1 4 pm Explore new themes each week in these drop-in art workshops. Paint, draw, sculpt, or craft a work of art inspired by exhibitions on view. Dig Drop-In Noon 3 pm Kids discover a passion for ancient artifacts in the Museum s simulated archaeological dig, open on the second Sunday of each month. Located in the Children s Exhibition on Floor 4 Tickets cannot be exchanged or returned. Ticket holders are encouraged to arrive promptly as seating is not guaranteed once a program has begun. We love having kids visit, but there might not be enough room for strollers in some of the galleries and public spaces. Umbrella strollers are welcome, and there are a limited amount of loaners available at coat check. Archaeology Zone Magnify, sketch, piece together fragments, interpret symbols, and dress in costumes from the past in our popular interactive children s exhibition focused on archaeology. Scheuer Auditorium features an Infrared Assistive Listening System for use during all performance programs. Both headsets and neck loops are available. Neck loops are also available for use with audio guide tours of exhibitions. Facilities are all wheelchair accessible. Upon request, a discount is offered to visitors with disabilities.
