Newsletter No 12 Dear Parents and Friends Friday 4 December 2015 Busy! Busy! Busy! This is the first week of Advent and our preparations for Christmas are in full swing. We will keep you informed of arrangements (and requests!) so please read the newsletter and watch out for texts. The children and staff are all working very hard to make Advent a very special time at Holy Cross School and we are all looking forward to sharing these events with you. It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! A very big thank you to the PTA who have worked so hard not only for organising today s fayre but for being so enthusiastic and willing to organise and support school events. We are so lucky to have such a proactive PTA so if you can spare any time to support them in their work, please speak to them. I can assure you that your offer of help will be very gratefully received. Also please remember when you are doing your shopping online that you can raise money for the school at the same time! This is what you need to do: 1. Sign up go to http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/hccspta and click on the button to sign up. 2. Shop from the easyfundraising website, search for the retailer you d like to shop with and click through to the retailer to make your purchase. This tells the retailer you came from easyfundraising. The price is exactly the same as if you d visited the retailer directly.no cost, no catch! Please be assured that using the easyfundraising website will not cost you a penny. There are no catches or hidden charges and Holy Cross Catholic Primary School PTA benefit from any donations you make once registered. Thank you for your support. Mass: Year 3 will lead our Mass in school on Thursday 10 December. Everyone is welcome. Supplementary Forms If you have a child who is due to start Early Years in September 2016, the deadline for the supplementary forms to be returned has been extended to Thursday 14 January. Reception Intake 2016 Please see below a message from The School Admissions and Pupil Placements Service Do you have a child who was born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012? If so, it is important that you apply online for your child s Reception class place for September 2016 by 15 January 2016. The Consultation on Proposed School Admissions Arrangements for the 2017/18 Academic Year is has been available to view at http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/2017admissions since 23 November 2015. School Fund Pleased see attached letter regarding School Fund contributions. Flu Vaccination A letter was sent home yesterday with the children in Year 1 and Year 2 regarding School based vaccination programme; protection against winter flu. The immunisation team will be visiting our school on Tuesday 15 December. Please contact the school office if you require a copy. Inset Day Please note Monday 22 February will be an Inset Day, school will be closed for all children. Thank you. School Choir Our school choir will be singing at the following events: Wednesday 9 December, 1.30pm at The Oaks (residential home) Saturday 12 December at 9.45am, House of Fraser in Sutton Coldfield. Tuesday 8 December at 1.30pm, OAP Christmas Lunch at the Church Hall. These are lovely opportunities for the children to perform to a variety of audiences and show the rewards of their hard work. I look forward to a high participation at all these events.

ComputerXplorers After School Club Application forms have been sent home with children in Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. Please complete and return form with payment no later than Tuesday 8 December. Places are issued on a first come first served basis. Please note Monday 22 February 2016 is now an Inset Day so the last session will be held on Monday 29 February. Thank you for your support. KS1 Christmas Production The Very Hopeless Camel For the Christmas Nativity play this year the children will need to wear a black outfit for the performance. This simply needs to be a pair of black trousers or leggings and a black T-shirt. The children will need to bring their outfits in by Monday 7 December 2015, ready for our dress rehearsal on Monday. All clothes must be sent in a clearly labelled bag marked with their name and class. Thank you for your support. KS1 Christmas Production The Very Hopeless Camel There will be two performances: Tuesday 8 December with refreshments served from 2.15pm and the performance starting at 2.30pm. Also, on Wednesday 9 December refreshments served at 9.15am and the performance starting at 9.30am. The children (and staff!) have been practising really hard. We look forward to seeing you at one of the performances. PTA Christmas Disco This will be held on Thursday 10 December from 3.20pm to 4.30pm. If you are available to help please contact the school office. Thank you for your support. This day will be a non-uniform day. 2.00 entrance to the disco per child and a maximum 3.00 spending money in a separate purse please. KS2 Carol Service Rehearsals On Friday 11 December and Monday 14 December all the KS2 children will be going to Church at 1.30pm to rehearse for their Carol Service. On both days children are required to be collected from Church at 3.10pm, this will allow parents to collect siblings from school for 3.20pm. If your child attends Kids Club or after school tennis they will walk back to school with staff. Thank you for your support.

Year 1 trip to Asda A letter has been sent home with our Year 1 children giving information regarding a visit to Asda on Monday 14 December. Please contact office if you require a copy. Thank you. KS2 Carol Service This will be held in Church on Monday 14 December at 6.00pm. Please come along to support our children. Christmas Lunch On Tuesday 15 December, we will be having our Christmas lunch in school for children and staff. All children are invited to take part, so if your child does not usually have a school meal, they are more than welcome to have one on that day. A letter will be sent home with children giving further details. This will be a non-school uniform day. Children can wear their Christmas jumpers on that day to get into the Christmas spirit. Cinderella We have arranged for The Working Theatre Company to visit the school on Thursday 17 December 2015 to perform Cinderella. This is a lovely Christmas pantomime for all children and is great value for money at 3.00 per child. Please send the correct money in a sealed envelope labelled Pantomime Visit stating your child s name and class into school by Friday 4 December. Thank you. Toy Day On Friday 18 December children can bring a toy into school. Please do not send your child with an expensive toy as the school will not accept responsibility if this gets broken. The children need to wear full school uniform for this day. Dinner Money The deadline for the payment of 63.00 is Wednesday 13 January 2016. Please make cheques payable to John Paul II Multi-Academy; Please ensure payments are in a sealed envelope marked with child s name, class and dinner money. Alternatively please make payments using Parent Pay Thank you.

Attendance Our school strives for 100% attendance. Did you know...? Whilst an attendance figure of 90% does appear to be good, this is equal to missing half a day every week and across the whole year, is equal to four weeks of missed school work! This week the Attendance Award was won by Year 5 with 99.63%! The Punctuality Award for the week: Year 1, Year 2, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6.
