Criminal Background Checks All applicants recommended for employment with the West Las Vegas School District are subject to work and education history and reference investigations, including but not limited to substitutes and temporary employees. Each applicant is subject to a criminal background investigation, including mandatory fingerprinting, at the applicant s expense, as a condition of further consideration for employment. All offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory completion of background investigations. Criminal convictions shall not automatically bar an applicant from obtaining employment with the district, but pursuant to the Criminal Offender Act, NMSA 1978 28-2-4 and 28-2-5, may be the basis for refusing employment. West Las Vegas Schools Superintendent of Schools Job Description Duties: 1. Identify, develop, and administer State of New Mexico and local board policies (as per Public School Code 22-5- 4). 2. Be in attendance at all local, regular, and special school board meetings and other district related meetings. 3. Recommend to the local School Board of Education all official district business including employment, reemployment, dismissal, and assignment of faculty and staff. 4. Provide accountability to the local Board of Education, via written and/or oral reports, addressing instructional and support components, budget management, school plant, equipment, and other school property. 5. Foster an atmosphere conducive to establish and maintain continuous communication with staff, students, parents, and community. 6. Develop and maintain a district management plan specific to district needs and tasks to be addressed as job responsibilities. 7. Administer, delegate, and accept responsibility for the following administrative tasks: a. Instructional and fiscal needs determine and assess specific needs. b. Develop, implement, and revise curriculum as an ongoing process. c. Serve in a leadership role in the development and in-service educational needs. d. Provide instructional improvement by keeping abreast of new educational trends and methodologies applicable to students and staff. e. Assessment of district educational goals. f. Insure a proper evaluation of all district employees. g. Develop, organize, and provide for the implementation of procedures necessary for emergency and disaster preparedness plans. 8. Provide reports and records, consistent with laws and regulations regarding student private records, as required by the State Board of Education. 9. Solicit and appoint advisory groups as determined and maintain continuous dialogue. 10. Involve staff in renovation and the development of master and site plans necessary to address district needs. 11. Maintain documentation that the principal of each school has been evaluated and has demonstrated the essential principal competencies as delineated in the Principal Evaluation Plan: An Implementation Guide (State Board of Regulation 89-5). Maintain documentation that non-principal administrators have been evaluated by the appropriate supervisor and have demonstrated the administrator competencies as delineated in Addendum E.
