V O L U M E 1 6, I S S U E 9 P A G E 2 During the winter months, school officials keep a close watch on the weather. If the decision is made to delay or close school, our district will make every effort to notify parents, guardians, employees and the community as soon as possible. With few exceptions, the decision to delay or close school is made by 5:45 a.m., before buses begin morning routes. As soon as a decision is made, a SchoolMessenger email will be sent to all parents and employees, and a text message will be sent to parents and employees who subscribe to the notification service. Information will also be posted on the district website, Twitter (@BGISD) and Facebook accounts. The district will not make early morning phone calls to every household. The following media are also contacted during inclement weather: Television: Radio: WBKO WKCT 930 am WKYU 88.9 fm WUHU 107 fm WNKY NBC 40 WCVK 90.7 fm WDNS 93.3 fm WTVF Nashville Ch 5 WGGC 95.1 fm WBVR 96.7 fm SPECTRUM TV WKLX 100.7 fm WCLU 102.3 fm In rare instances school may be dismissed during the school day to avoid afternoon weather conditions. If this occurs, a SchoolMessenger Emergency Message will be sent in an effort to contact parents as soon as possible. The Emergency Message will call all household phone numbers, send messages to all email addresses, and text messages will be sent to text subscribers. School days missed due to inclement weather will be made up. The 2017-2018 calendar lists February 19, March 15 and 16, as possible makeup days. If necessary, others may be added to the end of the school year. Please consider the possibility of make-up days as you make vacation and/or graduation plans. Two steps required to receive text messages from BGISD: 1. Provide parent/guardian cell phone number(s) to Bowling Green City Schools. 2. Subscribe to SchoolMessenger by texting the word subscribe to 68453.
