4 4 ABOUT IIT DELHI THE FACULTY AT IITD Have degrees from renowned national and international colleges and universities, including several from IITs. Involved in cutting edge research, with major publications in international journals and several patents to their names. Hold responsibilities as diverse as being editors of international journals, fellows to elite councils, researchers in R&D organisations, visiting faculty in reputed universities. Advise both industry and government through consultancy projects and also mentor the students' start ups. Have been recognized frequently by the government, industry and academia world over, with several awards including the Magsaysay Award, Bhatnagar Award, Padma Awards, Fellowship of International academics and many other. THE STUDENTS Only the top 0.5% makes it through rigorous selection procedure compared to 4.8% at Stanford and 7.5% at MIT. Invariably respective school-toppers, these students have a history of academic excellence- awarded the best national scholarships, having won the major national Olympiads. The desire to face competition and succeed translates into other fields too- batches comprise some of the nation's best high school artists/debaters and sportspersons. Extremely diverse cultural/social backgrounds mean mutual exposure which trains for global careers that have similarly challenging environments. The Campus is full of students with truly diverse backgrounds,with exceptional caliber and a strong qualitative, analytical and scientific ability and a strong will to compete i.e School Toppers, National Scholarship holders, and Olympiad Winners. THE INFRASTRUCTURE Library- 1 Central and 18 departmental libraries, having within them over 246,000 Bibliographic records of books, over 650 current journals, video library services. Academic Computing-extensive centralised computing infrastructure-pc labs, parallel and grid computing, departmental labs with state of the art equipment, CAD graphics facility, cloud computing, Proliant server Blades, and Distance learning facility. Auditoriums, Open Theatres, Lecture Theatres equipped with latest facility like online media projector, Play fields, indoor-sports facilities for a beyond academic experience. With a total area of 47474 sq. meter (about 9 football fields) at an estimated cost of 162.9 crore, the fully air conditioned and 4 Star GRIHA Provisional rated Lecture Hall Complex encompasses an academic space more than that of the Main Building and Blocks. State of the art classrooms have a visual system including big screens, multiple projectors, a camera for recording lectures. Various strategies were adopted to reduce the building impact on the natural environment.

5 5 ACADEMICS CURRICULUM The curriculum provides broad based knowledge and simultaneously builds a temper for the life long process of learning and exploring. Education at the Institute is organized around the semester-based credit system of study. This includes credits to be earned both in the graded and non graded units. UNDERGRADUATE Under this, a student needs to do compulsory foundation courses in the areas of basic sciences, humanities and social sciences and engineering sciences apart from departmental requirements (constitutes 50% of the total curriculum). Further, students do open category electives to develop broad interdisciplinary knowledge base or to specialize significantly in an area outside their parent discipline.these credits, which add up to give the CGPA are called graded credits. POST-GRADUATE Post Graduate curriculum focuses on the specialization in the department. Basic Science & Humanities are not a part of their curriculum. Each Department has different credits requirements that needs to be fulfilled for further information refer to Course of Study 2016-17 http://academics.iitd.ac.in/curriculum NON-GRADED SYSTEM In order to synergise formal academics with informal outside-class-room learning experience, mechanisms for earning non-graded units have been introduced in the undergraduate curriculum. These are core requirements and can be earned through formal academic activity and informal co-curricular or extra-curricular activities.these include the following- 1. Introduction to Engineering and the programme 2. Language and Writing skills 3. NCC/NSO/NSS 4. Professional Ethics and Social Responsibility 5. Communication Skill/Seminar 6. Design/Practical Experience MINOR DEGREE Apart from the major degree in their respective department students can also opt for either of the following or both of: 1) Minor degree/interdisciplinary area specialisation 2) Parent departmental specialisation Both of above require completion of 20 credits in respective area

6 6 UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES DOCTORAL PROGRAMMES BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY (B.TECH) Duration: 4 years Internship: 2 months Students can make use of the 2 credits acquired from internship in two blocks of 20 credits necessary to opt for (a) Minor / Interdisciplinary Area Specialization (b) Departmental Specialization DUAL DEGREE (B.TECH. + M.TECH.) Duration: 5 years Thesis Duration: 1 year Internship: 2 months Students can make use of the 2 credits acquired from internship in two blocks of 20 credits necessary to opt for (a) Minor / Interdisciplinary Area Specialization (b) Departmental Specialization Teaching Assistants: The assistantship is provided for a maximum period of 14 months beginning from the summer semester following eighth semester, provided the student is registered for M.Tech Major Project in that semester. M.S. (Res.) Full Time Duration: 4 semesters M.S. (Res.) Part Time Duration: 8 semesters M.Sc., Physics Duration: 4 semesters M.Sc., Chemistry Duration: 4 semesters M.Sc., Mathematics Duration: 4 semesters M.Tech., Full Time Duration: 4 semesters M.Tech., Part Time Duration: 8 semesters M. 8 8 ACADEMIC RIGOUR AT IIT DELHI PROJECTS Students undertake various interdisciplinary-research and industrial projects under the guidance of the faculty, solving real time problems pertaining to core research and industry. Moreover the B.Tech and M.Tech students have to complete a 'Thesis Project' in the final year of their Engineering courses. PUBLICATIONS Students actively publish their work in the form of Research papers in reputed national and international conferences and refereed journals. TRAINING Students take part in semester long / summer Internship in department specific or non- departmental industry / company to gain hands-on experience after the second and third year of Undergraduate study. Apart from this various industry visits and training sessions are organized for the students. INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE IIT Delhi has over 140 MoUs signed with international universities and fortune 500 companies facilitating collaboration through faculty and student exchange programmes.

14 14 Research & Development The Institute is actively involved in collaborative research programmes with international organisations/universities to remain at the forefront of scientific and technological developments and to share this knowledge. A large number of collaborative Research Projects are under operation with Institutes/Organisations of many countries. Major research activities have also been undertaken in the areas of national importance. In an effort to encourage research and development at grass root level, undergraduate students at the Institute are encouraged to inculcate their activities towards research while pursuing studies. To achieve this, a scheme called Summer Undergraduate Research Award (SURA) was introduced. Under this scheme, students are required to submit the project proposals in association with identified Faculty of the Department/Centre to act as an Administrative Facilitator and a Guide. Various units within IIT Delhi like Industrial Research & Development Unit (IRD), Foundation For Innovation And Technology Transfer (FITT), etc, are set up to facilitate Research, Development and Consulting. Faculty and students are actively involved in working on innovating cutting edge technologies

Bronze Way Mansion A student needs $78, to 450, complete 000 15 compulsory Non graded units, out of which 5 are reserved for Designing & Practical Experience (DPE). The summer internship at IIT Delhi converts to a 2 credit design course & the semester long internship converts to a 5 credit design course. The objective of this non-graded component is to give opportunities to students to learn in an informal setting and to inculcate design thinking amongst them & facilitate them to gain some design experience. DPE bridges gap between the curricular and the co-curricular components, and encourages the curiosity and involvement that arises from total absorption in a subject of interest. Interested companies show their intent to HOD TNP, IIT Delhi for recruiting students by mailing at placement@admin.iitd.ac.in The companies fill a Job Notification Form (JNF) for each profile Once the filled-in-jnf with all the required details is received, companies are assigned username/password to access their portal online on TNP website. (www.tnp.iitd.ac.in) Company/Organisation if interested in conducting a pre-placement talk can request for it, along with the preferred date to the Tnp Coordinator. The placement office allots the dates for the campus interviews, by considering factors like student preference, job profile, etc. Campus Interviews begin on Dec 1 After the completion of the selection procedure on campus, company is required to announce the final list of the students on the same day itself. If a student is selected, the job is registered against him/her and he/she would not be allowed to appear for more interviews as per placement policy. If a student is selected in 2 or more companies, the job (mentioned higher in his preference order) is registered against him/her and he/she would not be allowed to appear for more interviews as per placement policy.
