Monthly Report September 2011

Introduction HOPE Schools published their second terminal results in August. All the students are preparing for the Annual Examination. We had lot of activities in September. Drawing competition was held on 19 September. We performed a drama in Asia Foundation on 8 September on occasion of International Literacy Day observation. Students got new shoe and socks in this month. Jamgara school distributed polo shirt also among the students.

Events : Jamgara School of HOPE International Literacy Day: On 8 th September, we had an invitation to attend Asia Foundation to perform a drama and receive books for our school library. We had six students who are the member of our newly built cultural club. We presented a testimony about the necessity of literacy. Also performed a skit on it. Asia Foundation donated us 106 books for our school library. We can get more books in every four months from them. Drawing Competition: On 19 th September, school had drawing competition Ronga Rekhai Chobi Akee. It was really a colorful day for the students and teachers also. The students were very happy to draw their colorful picture. They had seven groups between morning and day sections. Morning section had three and day section had four groups. The younger group was play and elder were combined classes like three, four and five. Same day, we had prize distribution. Each group got 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd prize and it was color pencils and crayons. All teachers and our admin sir gave them the prizes. Students were very inspired by this competition and we all are waiting for the next drawing competition.

Events : Jamgara School of HOPE Certificate Distribution Ceremony for VTC: On 19 th September, vocational had certificate distribution ceremony at afternoon. We gave certificate among 6th and 7 th section students. All together we gave 52 certificates. Computer section students gave an overhead presentation by power point through a projector. Students also gave testimony about training course and how it is helping them. Also this program is encouraging for the current students. Shoe and Uniform Distribution: On 25 th September, we distributed new school shoe and two pairs of socks among all the students. We purchased it from Bata with a special discount. Norway Church of Christ donated this shoe. We also gave them 1 new Polo Shirt from our stock. Now students are looking smart. We are planning to get new school dress on the month of February next year.

Events : Jamgara School of HOPE Club Activities: As we are forming new club for students like Sewing Club, Cub Scout, Marshal Art, Cultural Club and Computer Club, it requires some extra fund for this club to run. 1) We have sent two teachers (David and Lipi) for a Cub Scout Orientation Training Program. We will raise 32 Students for this. In future students will need some scout dress, which may not be affordable for them. We need to open scout account from our school. This account will collect fund for scout activities in future. 2) We have selected 20 older girl students for Sewing Club, they will receive 1 year sewing training from our Vocational so that in future they can earn and continue their own study. Kakali Miss will lead this group. 3) We have planned to train 10 Boys and 10 Girls, for Marshal Art Training lead by David Sir, who is a Black Belt in Marshal Art. In future they will need dress, which will not be affordable for them also. 4) We have planned to start Computer Club lead by Ataur Sir, who will nurture the 20 students to learn computer and become skill full. 5) We sent a cultural team to Asia Foundation for a Skit performance and a Testimony Presentation. Theme was on International Literacy Day lead by Popy Miss. This Club needs some instruments and costumes.

Story of Sammi Akter : Jamgara School of HOPE Sammi Akter is a nice looking healthy girl. She is meritorious and no health problem. She is a student of Nursery. Her father is a Tailor and mother is a garments worker. She has only one little brother. Sammi comes to school every day and she is very attentive to her study. She likes to draw picture, dance and she loves to singing. She wants to be a teacher. She wants to touch her dreams. She needs proper care for future life.her family is very thankful to HOPE since they have provided opportunity for education, education material and food. They hope that this organization will be beside them in future too.

Story of Saiful Islam: Sayful Islam was a student of Computer Course. His father is an aged person. He can t do anything. His mother is a house wife. Before joining in the course he was used to work in a factory. During course time he left his job. He is married and has a daughter. He came to know about HOPE Computer Training Centre through other students. He was attentive in the course and made a good result. HOPE provides for them continues electricity support. So that full hour they can learn computer. During training time everyone sits in separate computer. He came to Industrial center of HOPE, because it is very cheap and he got quality training. Now he is working in a factory, and has opportunity to start computer work related business. During his learning time he brought his Sister to learn computer. Now Sayful has become the earning person in his family and is earning 5000/- per month. He feels HOPE give good quality courses that are valuable but very cheap. He is grateful to Industrial center of HOPE. He is willing to learn more courses from Industrial Center of HOPE on Computer.

Book Donation: 08 th September 11- Asia Foundation observed International Literacy Day. Many representatives came from different schools in the program. Ashilia school also attended that program. We got 106 valuable books from Asia Foundation free of cost. We believe these books will really help our students. Ashulia School of HOPE Events Drawing Competition : On19 th September we arranged drawing competition in our school for the first time. Every student brought their own color pencil for this competition. School provided papers to them. Students draw different kinds of pictures and colored it. After drawing few students performed dance with music. In the meantime, teachers selected best pictures from the students. We arranged special lunch for them. After lunch we distributed prizes among the winners and we gave one pencil to every student.

Story of Akash : Akash is 9 years old. He is studying in Play Group. His father s name is Akul Pramanik. He works in Gas factory. His mother s name is Rasida Begum. She works in a Garments factory. Akash has 5 years old younger brother whose name is Kowser. Their total family income is BDT 6000 Tk. / US $ 77. Whole family members are living in a small room. Their monthly house rent is BDT. 1000 Tk./ US$13. Before admitting in this school, he didn t go to any other school. Akash came from very poor family. His father has no ability to continue his studies because of his poverty. HOPE school found him through survey. Now Akash is coming to school regularly and he is doing well in his study. He loves the school very much. His most favorite game is cricket. Akash is very happy and grateful because he can study in this school. Akash s dream is, one day he will become an Engineer.
