TRACK OPTIONS 1. BS IN PRE-INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE The BS in pre-integrative medicine at Maharishi University of Management (MUM) offers foundational courses in both modern science (pre-med) and Maharishi AyurVeda SM. The program prepares students for a range of graduate training in Integrative Medicine. After you graduate, you will be ready to apply to our partner medical schools AUIS or any medical school of your choice, colleges of osteopathic medicine, or naturopathic medicine schools. 2. PRE MEDICAL, PRE REQUISITE COURSES Already have an undergraduate degree but now want to go to medical school? Come to MUM and get your medical school prerequisites, such as chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and physics, taken care of. These classes will take one month to two years, depending on your background and how many courses you need to complete pre-med requirements. 3. PRE-MED TO MEDICAL RESIDENCY BS MD MS TRACK Join us to make your dreams of becoming a doctor a reality. Students that want to become doctors in Integrative Medicine can now do so by joining our collaborative track with American University of Integrative Sciences St. Maarten School of Medicine (AUIS). Starting out at MUM, our pre-med students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to attend medical school while earning their Bachelor s in Pre-Integrative Medicine. On completion of the BS, MUM students will have the option of fast-tracking their entry into medical school through the direct entry provided by our partnership with AUIS. AUIS s Integrative Medicine MD program is constructed collaboratively with MUM and AUIS faculty and offers the MS program embedded completely within the instruction and training of the MD program. Students at AUIS graduate with MD and MS degrees. The Pre-med to Medical Residency (BS MD MS) track can be completed in as few as seven years for high school graduates with strong backgrounds in mathematics and sciences. Learn about AUIS on pages 6-7. 4. DUAL MD MS DEGREE WITH AUIS Already have the pre-med under your belt? Join MUM s collaborative MD/MS track with American University of Integrative Sciences St. Maarten School of Medicine (AUIS). MUM S PRE-INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE TRACK MUM s Pre-Integrative Medicine track is a 3-4 year Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Health program. This track offers all the modern science courses required for medical school, together with training in Maharishi AyurVeda and Integrative Medicine. It is designed to fulfil the educational requirements of almost all U.S. medical colleges, osteopathic naturopathic colleges*. Medical schools are increasingly recognizing the value of evidence-based natural health procedures, and many have begun offer elective and survey courses in integrative medicine. The addition of AyurVeda and Integrative Medicine training to your pre-medicine program will allow you to stand out when you apply to medical schools, and will prepare you for your future practice of Integrative Medicine In our Pre-Integrative Medicine track, we offer the courses that best prepare a student for a career in the practice of medicine for most Modern Medical, Osteopathic, Naturopathic and Chiropractic schools. These subjects are also included in the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT): General chemistry Organic chemistry Biochemistry Biology Physics Mathematics In the foundations of natural medicine, you will study these key topics from the perspective of the world s oldest and most complete system of natural medicine, Maharishi AyurVeda: Clinical assessment by AyurVedic pulse reading: Learning to detect balance and imbalance in the body through the pulse Diet: Study of diets that balance and nourish the physiology. Daily and seasonal routine: Study of how to align the individual life with the daily and seasonal rhythms of natural law Modern science and ancient Vedic science foundations of health: human anatomy and physiology, structure and function. Learn more about our pre-integrative medicine track. *As with any other pre-med program, acceptance by any given medical school will depend upon the performance and qualifications of the applicant. Entrance requirements vary from each medical school. I want to be able to help a patient holistically as opposed to just having one modality in my practice. In the western world, many illnesses are just treated with drugs, which can be very hard on the physiology. I d like to be able to give the patient a choice regarding their treatment. If they want a treatment that is more subtle to their physiology as opposed to taking a drug that comes with harsh side-effects, I think this program is able to mold me into that type of medical practitioner. - Daniel Nola (Previous Pre-Med Student at MUM) 4 5

Dual MD MS Collaborative Program with MUM and AUIS a American University of Integrative Sciences St. Maarten School of Medicine (AUIS) AUIS s new MD MS program in collaboration with MUM will incorporate and integrate the best practices of science-based natural and traditional medicine with high quality modern medicine. A focus will be on the world s most ancient and comprehensive system of natural medicine, Maharishi AyurVeda. In addition, students will gain introductions to other major systems of natural and traditional medicine, including traditional Chinese medicine, naturopathy and manipulative medicine. A central part of the curriculum will be students daily practice of healthy lifestyle, including stress reduction and self-development with the Transcendental Meditation technique. This will bring both Maharishi AyurVeda and Integrative Medicine into mainstream US medical school education as a joint effort to fill the obvious chasm in current US health care delivery. Qualifying students will be offered a 7-year uninterrupted High School to MD track. Beginning the program at MUM, students will earn their BS degree and move to the AUIS s MD program with an embedded MS in Maharishi Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine. More About AUIS St. Maarten AUIS is a four-year medical school located on the tropical island of St. Maarten with two years of basic sciences taught on the island and two years of clinical rotations in the US or Canada. Their internationally recognized, four-year program gives students a solid education in modern medicine, which is supplemented by training in natural and holistic approaches that primarily focus on prevention, and is not limited simply to reactive patient care. The program will integrate and align MUM s MS program in Maharishi AyurVeda and Integrative Medicine with a modern, Allopathic curriculum to produce one of the first true MD-Integrative Medicine curricula in the country. Students will study medicine with a special focus on preventative medicine, community service, and wellness, with additional training in the business of medicine. Life on St. Maarten St. Maarten is a tropical island surrounded by sparkling blue waters of the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. The island of St. Maarten is approximately 33 square miles and is a popular cruise port that received cruise passengers numbering more than two million last year. The Prina cess Juliana International Airport has established SXM as a regional hub with regular jet service from most metropolitan centers in the United States. Travel to St. Maarten therefore is an easy 2 to 3 hour commute from most cities on the US east coast. Flights also come in daily from Europe, mostly Paris and Amsterdam.. 6 7

Fin Financing Your Medical School Degree One concern of becoming a doctor is the amount of debt that students accrue from the many years of pre-med and medical school. According to the Associated of American Medical Colleges, in 2013, the average medical students finished with $278,455 (for private medical school) and $207,866 (for public schools) in debt. AUIS is affordable without compromising education. When you leave AUIS you are likely to have half as much debt as you would from medical school in the US or Canada. BS: Standard MUM financial aid Pre-Med Prerequisites: Financial aid is only available if enrolled in a degree granting program MD MS AUIS: If you qualify, you will be able to get financial aid for your MS. This may defer expenses for your MS tuition and room and board. Contact us for more information about financial aid. 8 9

WHY BECOME AN INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE PHYSICIAN? Integrative medicine is the future of medicine. As an integrative physician, you will learn to not only treat disease, but also how to prevent it in the first place. The great thing about integrative medicine is that you don t have to choose between conventional medicine and natural medicine. Integrative medicine seeks to combine the best practices of modern medicine along with best practices of natural and preventive modalities to help patients achieve and maintain optimal health and wellness. You will be able to recommend the options for your patients that are most effective with the least harmful side effects. The goal is to enable your patients innate healing response to return it to its natural state of wellness, through the least invasive means possible. You will possess a rare skill among physicians. Dr. Moshe Dekel, MD, Dean of Holistic/Integrative Medicine at AUIS, discusses the doctor-patient healing relationship in integrative health care, The holistic approach is about helping the patient to be a participant in the decision making, by helping them understand their health issues, rather than making their decisions based on fear. We are looking for future doctors who are interested in patient care that includes more than just writing prescriptions. We want you to access the patient not just in terms of the symptoms they present, but rather understand and treat the root causes of those symptoms. This new curriculum will better prepare our graduates for practicing medicine in the 21st century. 10 11
