The exam dates on Thursdays are when I will be giving the exam in the classroom (ABH 003). Exams may be taken in the Campus Assessment Center (93 JCP), and students can take midterm exams any time between the Tuesday BEFORE the exam date until the Monday AFTER the exam date. Since the Campus Assessment Center closes at 5:00 on Monday, all exams will be completed by 5:00 on that Monday. If you prefer to take exams in the classroom, feel free to join one of my campus sections to take exams. They meet at 9:30 am Tuesdays and Thursdays in ABH 003 and at 12:30 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays in ABH 002. If you are unable to get to UMSL campus for exams, we can arrange to have you take them at a university near you. Students are allowed to bring their calculators and one 3x5 card with whatever they want written on front and back to each exam. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FINAL EXAM IS ON A DIFFERENT SCHEDULE, SO ALL FINAL EXAMS WILL BE COMPLETED BY noon THURSDAY, DEC 14, 2017. Participation: Class attendance is required and will be recorded via in class exercises that are submitted through Docs and Assignments and reviewed but are not a part of your grade. In Class Exercises are always due at midnight two days following
discussion of that chapter. For example, since the first lecture will be on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, the ICE on the syllabus and chapter one will be due and expire at midnight on Thursday, August 24. This gives you over 48 hours to listen to the lecture and complete the In Class Exercises. ICE s can be found in Docs and Assignments in the folder for whatever section we are currently working on. You will submit the In Class Exercises through Assignments. Homework: Extra Credit: Student Conduct: Suggested Study Schedule: Homework will be collected and graded through the Connect software system. Deadlines are built into the software so that students keep up with the homework during the semester. Homework will be due at midnight two days following the discussion of that chapter. There is no homework on chapter one. Chapter Two will be discussed on Thursday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 29 so the homework on chapter two will be due at midnight on Thursday, August 31. Students can get extra credit (added to the Participation grade at the end of the semester) by trying the Learn Smart chapters for each section and attending campus events related to business. The Learn Smart chapters will expire with each section on the Monday after the scheduled exam date at midnight. Students who attend business-related events on campus will write a short paragraph about what they learned and email it to me within a week. I will post announcements on My Gateway about events that might be of interest. If you find out about one that I have not posted, check with me to be sure it would be allowed for Extra Credit purposes. Our conduct in this course will be consistent with the Student Conduct Code. Please read it. Pay particular attention to the section on academic honesty. Any form of cheating on exams, including providing assistance to others, will result in a 0 for that exam and 0 points for the academic honesty component of the course. Since this is a 100% online course, a great deal of discipline will be required from students in order to be successful. There are sixteen weeks in the Fall Semester, so students will have to do several activities every week. You can also work ahead since documents will be out in MG well before the schedule date. Here are the daily activities that I would suggest for the first section: Tuesday, August 22, 2017 1. Read chapter one. 2. Listen to the recording for Module 1, perhaps taking your own notes in the margins of the printed lecture note pages in My Gateway. 3. Complete the In Class Exercise (ICE 8-22-17) in Docs and Assignments. 4. Do the Learn Smart assignment for chapter one. NOTE: There is no homework on chapter one. Thursday, August 24, 2017 1. Review notes and make up your 3x5 card. 2. Print the sample exams. 3. Sit down with your calculator and 3x5 card and complete the first sample exam. 4. Print the answers and grade the exam. 5. Any concepts that you got wrong should be studied further and/or added to your 3x5 card. 6. Take the second sample exam. 7. Grade it. 8. Again, look up the concepts that were missed and review them. Enhance your 3x5 card even more. 9. Print the Extra Sets of Sample Exams and take as many as you need, grade them, and practice until you get a grade on the sample exams that you like. 10. Compare your 3x5 card with the Review to make sure you have everything that will be covered on the exam. Thursday, September 14, 2017 1. Decide when and where you will take the exam (Campus Testing or with one of my classes at 9:30 or 12:30). 2. I suggest that you go through the exam the first time and answer everything you know. Then go back through and guess at the multiple choice questions and try the problems. Partial credit can help your grade. Pay attention to the time remaining. You have an hour and 15 minutes to take the exam. 3. Before you turn it in, make sure you have answered all the multiple choice with some answer and put something down for each problem. The following week: I will put your exam scores out on My Gateway as soon as I get them graded. Decide on a time when you can come to my office to look at your exam (especially if you did not do as well as you would have liked). Do the other sections in a similar manner.
