MASTER S DEGREE IN PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT (MComPM) OVERVIEW The purpose of the Master of Commerce in Programme Management degree is to enable programme, portfolio and value chain managers on, theories, methodologies and practices within a value chain management context. Moreover, the purpose extends to enabling managers in creating new knowledge through research mastery in the optimisation of the organisation s value chain. The ability to deal with rapidly changing advancements in technology and international competitive markets is enhanced. After Completing the Master s Degree, students will be able to: Demonstrate a command of research design, research methodologies and the execution of the research process. Programme-manage the organisation s value chain in an integrative manner so as to optimise the organisation s value proposition. Select methods and processes to solve emergent complex problems related to project, programme and portfolio management through leadership, utilising the organisation s systems and resources to add value to the organisation. Communicate, critique and defend substantial ideas produced through independent research in an area of specialisation, meeting the theoretical and technical requirements of advanced research report writing. WORK CONTEXT DISSERTATION The student is required to complete a dissertation of limited scope, which investigates a problem based project, programme, portfolio, supply chain, or value chain management situation in his or her work environment. LEARNING MODULES OUTLINE NQF level 9, with 180 credits: The Master s Degree in Programme Management consists of two learning modules, plus a dissertation. Modules M8 and M9, plus a dissertation (Module M10) comprising the MComPM are as follows: Module M8: Leadership and Management Research Methodology Module M9: Select ONE of the following electives: 1. Creating and Sustaining the Learning Organisation Culture (offered in 1st Quarter starting January). 2. Optimal Virtual Value Chain Performance (offered in 2nd Quarter starting April). 3. Asset Management (offered in the 3rd Quarter starting July). Module M10: Work-context Dissertation Module Order of Precedence Module M8 is offered twice per annum. The first Module M9 elective is offered in the first quarter starting January, the second elective is offered in the second quarter starting April, and third elective is offered in the third quarter starting July. Once M8 has been completed the Dissertation may be commenced. 4
ACCREDITATION AND CERTIFICATION The MCom(PM) is fully aligned with the USA Project Management Institute s (PMI) philosophy, and is an ideal Model) professional. It is also fully aligned with the International Project Management Association s 4-level project, programme and portfolio managers. PROGRAMME AVAILABILITY Modules M8 and M9 are offered TWICE per annum at our Main Tuition Centre in Midrand, Gauteng. These classes are also streamed live online globally. The modules may be undertaken in any order, followed by the dissertation once M8 (research methodology) has been completed.
