Student Study Abroad Scholarship Sponsored by Hochschule Fulda Department of Social Work Fall Semester 2013 (4 months) Hochschule Fulda Department of Social Work The Hochschule Fulda Department of Social Work program is designed to provide a personalized and integrated living and learning experience in the state of Hessen, Germany. The Department of Social Work offers both coursework and field placement in English. The course list below, in its entirety, represents one semester of combined coursework and field placement. ECTS is the system for awarding credit to a course in Europe. Please use the references to ECTS below as a guide for understanding the amount of time you may spend in total on each course in relation to the other courses. Number of Awards Available to UW Oshkosh students 2 scholarships Scholarship Amount 3,100 (approximately US$4,000 as of March 2013; the U.S. dollar equivalent will fluctuate with changes to the exchange rate) Eligibility This competition is open to any UW Oshkosh undergraduate student who has completed at least one year of university-level coursework, has a clean disciplinary record and who was enrolled full-time at UW Oshkosh during spring semester 2013. While the following are not required to be considered for the scholarship, preference will be given to applicants based on: Major: preference will be given first to Social Work majors and second to Human Services majors. If you are not a Social Work or Human Services major, apply anyway! Given the timing on this scholarship, it s highly likely that there will only be a few applications in total and that there may be no Social Work or Human Services majors who apply. Academic achievement, including cumulative and major GPAs. Relevance of the study abroad location/university to the applicant s future career and/or personal goals. Responsibilities of the Scholarship Recipient Terms The recipient must attend classes through the study program at Hochschule Fulda for the duration of fall semester 2013 (approximately September 1, 2013 departure from the U.S. with September 2 arrival in Germany through December 20, 2013; students may potentially need to arrive a week earlier than September 2 for orientation). Upon return, the recipient must complete three classroom visits and/or student organization visits of 5-15 minutes each between the first and last day of spring semester, 2014 to present on the student experience at Hochschule Fulda. The recipient is responsible for identifying professors or student organization presidents who will allow presentations in the classroom/meeting. Upon return, the recipient must attend at least one hour of the study abroad fair to give potential study abroad applicants a first-hand perspective on study at Hochschule Fulda. The study abroad fair will be held from 10:00-2:00 (exact date TBD) during the week of February 10, 2014 in Reeve Union Ballroom (2 nd floor). A recipient whose class schedule prohibits attendance at this event will be required to schedule a fourth classroom/student organization visit instead. A recipient who will graduate at the end of fall semester 2013 may work out alternatives to the presentations and fair attendance. Alternatives, however, will require the recipient to return to the UW Oshkosh campus at least once. The recipient will be required to pay all program fees to UW Oshkosh before travel. Upon arrival abroad (and after all fees have been paid to UW Oshkosh), the scholarship award will be paid directly to the recipient by Hochschule Fulda.
A recipient who withdraws, leaves, is dismissed from or otherwise does not complete this program from beginning to end will not receive the scholarship award. A recipient who does not complete required pre-travel orientations will not receive the scholarship award.
