www.ibpspoclerkexams.net EQUIPERCENTILE METHOD ILLUSTRATION SESSION 1 EASY PAPER Suppose 20 candidates appeared for the examination in Session 1 which was relatively Easy. Following table shows the scores of the candidates out of a total of 50 marks. The Topper Amit has scored the highest marks i.e. 49/50 Session 1 - Easy Candidate Total Marks Obtained Candidate Name /50 Rank Amit 49 1 Karan 48 2 Sumit 47 3 Priyanka 46 4 Komal 45 5 Subhash 44 6 Manik 43 7 Kiran 42 8 Jaya 41 9 Prakash 40 10 Aakash 39 11 Bimal 38 12 Janki 37 13 Namrata 36 14 Priya 35 15 Juhi 34 16 Santosh 33 17 Randhir 32 18 Nitin 31 19 Aditya 30 20

According to the Table above 20 students scores have been tabulated and their ranks calculated accordingly. Now using the Ranks of all the students, Percentile Ranks will be calculated How can you calculate your Percentile Rank? (A ) Percentile Rank can also be calculated approximately as : My Percentile Rank = {[(Total no. of Students) (My Rank)] / (Total no. of Students-1)} X 100 OR (B) Use PERCENTRANK Formula in MS Excel www.ibpspoclerkexams.net The Table below gives the Percentile Ranking of all the students Session 1 Easy Candidat e Total Marks Obtained /50 Candidate Rank Candidate Percentile Rank Name Amit 49 1 100.0% Karan 48 2 94.7% Sumit 47 3 89.4% Priyanka 46 4 84.2% Komal 45 5 78.9% Subhash 44 6 73.6% Manik 43 7 68.4% Kiran 42 8 63.1% Jaya 41 9 57.8% Prakash 40 10 52.6% Aakash 39 11 47.3% Bimal 38 12 42.1% Janki 37 13 36.8% Namrata 36 14 31.5% Priya 35 15 26.3% Juhi 34 16 21.0% Santosh 33 17 15.7% Randhir 32 18 10.5%

Nitin 31 19 5.2% Aditya 30 20 0.0% Hence we can see that Candidate percentile Rank is obtained using the methodology described above. Now moving ahead. SESSION 2 DIFFICULT PAPER Now Session 2 is a difficult paper. 24 candidates gave this paper. Here the maximum marks scored by the topper Nitin is 25/50, Accordingly Percentile Ranks are calculated as below : Session -2 Difficult Candidate Total Marks Obtained /50 Rank Percentile Rank Name Nitin 25 1 100.00% Rakesh 24 2 95.60% Gulshan 23 3 91.30% Santosh 22 4 86.90% Vaibhav 21 5 82.60% Seema 20 6 78.20% I Neha 19 7 73.90% Pragya 18 8 69.50% Rahul 17 9 65.20% Sandeep 16 10 60.80% Prateek 15 11 56.50% Radhey 14 12 52.10% Surendra 13 13 47.80% Abhishek 12 14 43.40% Shefali 11 15 39.10% Jasbir 10 16 34.70% Rajesh 9 17 30.40% Vikas 8 18 26.00% Atul 7 19 21.70% Ajit 6 20 17.30% Roshan 5 21 13.00% Manoj 4 22 8.60% Ashok 3 23 4.30% Ambika 2 24 0.00% DETERMINING WHICH CANDIDATES QUALIFY FROM EACH SESSION.

1. A Cut off Percentile Rank is Fixed depending on available vacancies. This can vary from (0-100%) IBPS will now fix a cut off percentage. Suppose IBPS decides ( on the basis of available vacancies) that candidates who have secured 75% or more in their percentile rankings from each session are eligible for interview then following is the status of each candidate : Session 1 Easy (If Cutoff is decided at 75% or more) S.no Student Total Marks Student Status Name (Absolute Score)/50 Percentile Rank 1 Amit 49 100.0% Qualified 2 Karan 48 94.7% Qualified 3 Sumit 47 89.4% Qualified Priyank 4 a 46 84.2% Qualified 5 Komal 45 78.9% Qualified 6 Subhash 44 73.6% Not Qualified 7 Manik 43 68.4% Not Qualified 8 Kiran 42 63.1% Not Qualified 9 Jaya 41 57.8% Not Qualified 10 Prakash 40 52.6% Not Qualified 11 Aakash 39 47.3% Not Qualified 12 Bimal 38 42.1% Not Qualified 13 Janki 37 36.8% Not Qualified 14 Namrat a 36 31.5% Not Qualified 15 Priya 35 26.3% Not Qualified 16 Juhi 34 21.0% Not Qualified 17 Santosh 33 15.7% Not Qualified 18 Randhir 32 10.5% Not Qualified 19 Nitin 31 5.2% Not Qualified 20 Aditya 30 0.0% Not Qualified Session 2 Difficult (If Cutoff is decided at 75% or more) Candidate Total Marks Obtained Percentile Status Name /50 Rank Nitin 25 100.00% Qualified Rakesh 24 95.60% Qualified

Gulshan 23 91.30% Qualified Santosh 22 86.90% Qualified Vaibhav 21 82.60% Qualified Seema 20 78.20% Qualified Neha 19 73.90% Not Qualified Pragya 18 69.50% Not Qualified Rahul 17 65.20% Not Qualified Sandeep 16 60.80% Not Qualified Prateek 15 56.50% Not Qualified Radhey 14 52.10% Not Qualified Surendra 13 47.80% Not Qualified Abhishek 12 43.40% Not Qualified Shefali 11 39.10% Not Qualified Jasbir 10 34.70% Not Qualified Rajesh 9 30.40% Not Qualified Vikas 8 26.00% Not Qualified Atul 7 21.70% Not Qualified Ajit 6 17.30% Not Qualified Roshan 5 13.00% Not Qualified Manoj 4 8.60% Not Qualified Ashok 3 4.30% Not Qualified Ambika 2 0.00% Not Qualified www.ibpspoclerkexams.net SUMMARY OF QUALIFIED STUDENTS S.no Name Total Percentile Session Easy Score Rank /Difficult 1 Amit 49 100.0% 1 Easy 2 Karan 48 94.7% 1 Easy 3 Sumit 47 89.4% 1 Easy Priyank a 46 84.2% 1 Easy 4 5 Komal 45 78.9% 1 Easy 6 Nitin 25 100.00% 2 Difficult 7 Rakesh 24 95.60% 2 Difficult 8 Gulshan 23 91.30% 2 Difficult 9 Santosh 22 86.90% 2 Difficult 10 Vaibhav 21 82.60% 2 Difficult 11 Seema 20 78.20% 2 Difficult

Thus we can clearly see that 5 students from session 1 ( who have higher total scores) and 6 students from session 2 (who have lower total scores ) have qualified on the basis of their Percentile Ranks. Thus it really doesn t matter if you got an Easy paper or a Difficult one, if it is easy it is easy for all, if it is difficult it is the same for all. Scores will be Normalized to adjust for difficulty levels across sessions. WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU? What really matters is how you score relative to others in your session, i.e. what is your rank in your session, It doesn t matter if your friend in some other session has scored more than you. 1. Try to solve each question to the best of your ability. 2. Don t bother about whether you got an Easy paper or Difficult paper- Scores will be normalized across sessions. 3. Don t be distracted by what your friend has achieved in terms of no. of attempts etc in some other session. Focus on Your Exam 4. Don t feel that you are at an advantage because you are attempting the paper on a later date, similarly don t feel disadvantaged if you have attempted the paper on an earlier date. We hope that this answers some of your queries and doubts and makes you aware of the reality surrounding this examination.
