Johnson County Community College Transfer Program to the University of Kansas Pre-Pharmacy 2017-2018 Catalog Contact: Gene Hotchkiss Phone: 785-864-3591 Email: pharmacy@ku.edu Web: www.pharm.ku.edu Completion of 68 credit hours may be transferred to KU from accredited colleges and must be completed with a grade of C or higher prior to matriculation into the PharmD Program. Students should apply for admission to the School of Pharmacy when they will have completed the 68 credit hours of required prepharmacy courses prior to the fall semester of the year for which admission is sought. The application deadline is February 1 but it is recommended that all students complete their application in December the preceding semester. New admissions are made only in the fall semester. While students must meet a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall and in science and math courses to be eligible, the average GPA for successful applicants is much higher. Students are required to take the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) and complete and return the Student Profile form to the School of Pharmacy. Students should arrange for recommendations on the school s reference forms to be sent directly to the school. All chemistry and biology laboratory classes in the pre-pharmacy curriculum must be completed on campus and in the lab. No simulation or off-site laboratory courses are accepted. No online labs will be accepted. The KU Pre-Pharmacy course requirements total a minimum of 69 credit hours which include 57 credit hours of required course work and 12 credit hours of general studies electives. Students who have earned an AA from JCCC will be considered to have met KU s general education requirements. The School of Pharmacy accepts up to 105 first-year professional students each year. Students are encouraged to meet with a pharmacy advisor during their second or third semester in the pre-pharmacy curriculum to review their academic record and prepare for the admission cycle. For detailed admission information see our website listed above. A total of 208 hours (12 semesters; 6-year program) is required to earn a Pharm.D. degree. Updated 7/17 1
