ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO THE DOCTOR OF VETERINARY MEDICINE PROGRAM This list of Acceptable Courses FOR UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH STUDENTS is based on courses listed in the University of Guelph Undergraduate Calendar. The specific course requirements listed below must have been completed at the university level before admission to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program will be considered. Courses will not be acceptable if they are repeats of previously passed courses, or if they are taken at the same level or a lower level in a subject area than previously passed courses in the same subject area (i.e. with significant overlap in content) A course requirement is not regarded as being fulfilled unless the course has been completed successfully by December 31 st (the fall semester prior to the January 1 deadline). All courses must be degree level (i.e. not diploma). Prerequisite courses can be from any semester. Academic Requirements for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program A minimum of four full-time semesters [10.00] AND Eight prerequisite courses taken in full-time (5 courses) semesters: Biological Sciences 1.0 credits (normally 2 one semester courses) (with recommended emphasis on animal biology) Cell Biology - 0.5 credits (1 semester course) Genetics 0.5 credits (1 semester course) Biochemistry 0.5 credits (1 semester course) Statistics 0.5 credits (1 semester course) Humanities or Social Sciences 1.0 credits (normally 2 0.5 credit semester courses) Course selections in an applicant s last two full-time semesters will be reviewed for academic coherence. For the purpose of D.V.M. admissions, a full-time semester will include a minimum of 2.5 credits (normally 5 courses or 15 credits in schools where a one semester course is typically 3.0 credits). It is expected that the level of an applicant s courses will correspond to the semester level (year) of his or her program. Students who have completed a degree and are upgrading in a non-degree category for the purpose of D.V.M. admission will be expected to register in the highest level courses possible for them. An applicant who is not following a prescribed program of study may be required to submit an explanation of his or her course selections.

The following are the University of Guelph degree courses that may be used to meet the academic requirements for application to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program. Students applying from other universities should contact Admission Services, Office of the Registrarial Services, to ensure that courses taken elsewhere will be accepted.
