Orientation October 19 Senior Summit Day
What you should have: Parent Permission Form (blue) COOL Week Orientation Snapshot & Deadlines (yellow) Resume sample & tips (pink) At the end of this session you will be given a copy of your individualized COOL Week Student Application & Notes handout for you to review and return to me before you leave this session
Commitment In business, time is $$. Your commitment is vital to COOL Week. Businesses count on your participation and make plans accordingly. They pull staff away from other activities in order to provide a COOL Week experience for you. When you bail at the last minute, that is very bad. We have lost many businesses due to the lack of commitment on the part of our students.
When committing, consider: COOL Week is February 6-10. You will likely be giving up vacation days February 6 & 7 in order to participate. Make sure your parents don t have vacation plans for that week! Some placements are only for a couple of days, but others are for the entire week. When your placement is for the whole week, you will miss school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. (Absences will not count against you for COOL Week.)
Conflicts Hey, stuff happens, but some of these conflicts you should know about now. Plan ahead to work around them. If it s not possible to work around them, you will need to remove yourself from the COOL Week program. Consider: ACC classes Extracurricular activities Part-time jobs NOTE these on your Student Application & Notes form!!
Conflicts Sports & Extracurricular COOL Week work hours are typically 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. ACC: Most professors will allow you to miss their class to participate, but you need to check with them well ahead of time to be sure. If your professor will NOT allow you to miss or make-up class, then remove yourself from COOL Week. ELECTIVES: Scheduled afternoon or morning practices might interfere with COOL Week. Know the practice schedule and talk to the coach or coordinator ahead of time to see if you can miss. If not, remove yourself from COOL Week WORK: Know your work schedule. Most employers will allow you to miss work to participate in COOL Week if they know ahead of time.
Transportation Locations are all over the Austin metroplex area. You could be placed from Georgetown to South Austin depending on your placement. You are responsible for your own transportation, parking, gas.
