Master of Athletic Training (M AT)* PROFESSIONAL DEGREE PROGRAM ACCREDITATION *Charleston Southern University is currently phasing out the existing Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The Master of Athletic Training (M AT) program and curriculum is awaiting final approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which should occur during the 2016-2017 academic year. Furthermore, the M AT program is awaiting a degree level approval and re-accreditation from the CAATE, which is scheduled to occur during the 2017-2018 academic year. A student may enroll in the M AT at CSU in the summer of 2017 but must understand that the CAATE re-accreditation will not occur until after their first year in the program. They collaborate with physicians to provide prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. The Athletic Training Program at Charleston Southern prepares students to become well-rounded, clinically sound, professionally certified athletic trainers through a rigorous didactic and clinical education program. The cohort-based program spans 24 months with a strong emphasis in evidence-based clinical examination and diagnosis of injuries and illness sustained by physically active patients. Our program provides future athletic trainers with the knowledge, skills and abilities to function as an integral member of the health care team. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Our program is the first and only professional Master of Athletic Training program in South Carolina. CSU recently opened a new 2,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Athletic Training Program Lab. The CSU Athletic Training Program is committed to providing diverse, authentic and immersive clinical experiences.
