Whoo s News December 8, 2017 Winter Break Countdown Two full weeks of school before Winter Break! It s always a very busy time leading up to Winter Break with all the wonderful Christmas activities! Here are a couple of reminders: Locker Cleanout We will have a quick Homeroom on Wednesday, December 20 th so students have an opportunity to clean out their lockers. Students are encouraged to take home the clothing that has been gathering in their locker for months, as well as clean out any food items that could potentially spoil while we are away. The school will be closed for two weeks, so be sure the warm winter jacket and mitts make their way home before the 22 nd. Attendance The last two weeks are regular school days with attendance being taken. If your family has early travel plans, please call in ahead of time so the absence can be indicated as excused. Our Attendance Line is open 24/7 and you can call a couple of days ahead if you know your family will be on the road. MAP Presentations December 13 All students are dismissed at 12:30 on December 13 th. Grade 12 students taking Semester 1 English 12 or Communications 12 will have handed in their MAP assignment to Mr. Parmar or Mr. Sodaro. Students will be presenting their assignment at appointment times during the afternoon on December 13 th. Grade 12 Students Instructions for MAP Day: 1. Arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment in the MPR. 2. Dress as if going to a job interview OR appropriate attire for your career choice. 3. Smile and take a deep breath.. You got this!! Twelve Days of Christmas? Our Rec Leadership class did not stop at Twelve Days, but planned a whole month s worth of great activities for KSS students to fully enjoy the Season. Admission by dona on Night Owl Theatre KSS Night Owl Theatre presents the hilarious one act comedy: "All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Play". Featuring caffeine addicted directors and stolen donut holes, this is a great way to get into the holiday spirit! The show runs from December 6 to December 9 at the KSS Studio Theatre. Career Life Programs Dual Credit programs allow students the opportunity get a head start on a career while earning both high-school credits and post-secondary credentials while in high school. Two programs to consider: Mount Boucherie Senior Secondary Hair Stylist Program:- The program is composed of applied skills hairdressing courses which make up 990 training hours. Students must attend MBSS for the school year. Students have the option of completing English 12 while enrolled in the program. Upon completion of the program students can be entered into an apprenticeship with a salon as a hairstylist to complete a maximum of 3600 hours. Upon completion of the in-school training and apprenticeship (work) hours, students can apply for their Red Seal certification in Hairdressing. Graduates of the Education Assistant Certificate program find employment in elementary, middle and secondary school in B.C. and beyond, supporting students who require extra assistance in meeting their educational goals. They also find jobs working one-on-one with children and adults who need support; in care homes for people with special needs, and with local organizations. Admission Requirements: Grade 12 or equivalent English 12 or Technical and Professional Communications 12 with a minimum grade of 60% (Communications 12 is not acceptable) or completion of the Language Proficiency Index (LPI) with a minimum score of 24/40 (Level 4), Applicants must complete a criminal record check no more than three months before their date of admission.
Grad News Grad Photos Grad photos are coming up from January 8 19, 2018. All grads are encouraged to book a si ng as there is no si ng fee, and their grad photos will go in the yearbook and the KSS 2018 grad composite. Grads will also receive a photo when they cross the stage in June. There are just enough spaces for our en re grad class, so please book in advance and DO NOT miss appointments. Si ngs are 12 minutes long. The first half is formal in the cap and gowns, and the second half is fun. Grads can bring props, family members, pets and friends.
