Welcome to Cell Biology. This course covers a large amount of material in a short period of time. You are encouraged to study some of the material each day. This term is extremely important because you will be continually asked to refer back to learning from this term (terminology, chemistry, cell physiology, and tissues) in the subsequent terms of A&P and Micro. The best way to succeed in this course is to come to lecture everyday. Studying with your classmates and making flashcards will also help with your success. Lecture outlines will be available on the internet at the following website: www.pcc.edu/staff/stephanie.mirkes Academic Honesty: All lecture and laboratory quizzes, midterms, and finals are closed book. No dictionaries, lists, calculators, or texts are allowed. No student collaboration or talking allowed. Cheating will result in a zero on that assignment. Texts: Lecture: Campbell. Biology: Concepts and Connections. 6 th edition, Benjamin Cummings, Inc. 2009. Lab Manual: BI 112: Cell Biology for the Health Sciences Lab Manual. Portland Community College. Grading: Lecture: 70% Lab: 30% Lecture Exam 1 100 points Exam 2 100 Exam 3 150 Mini Exams 80 (2 @ 40 points each) Lecture Quizzes 100 (6 @ 20 points each, lowest dropped) Homework 90 (6 @ 15 points each) Lab Lab Quizzes 80 (9 @ 10 points each, lowest dropped) Prelabs 90 (9 @ 10 points each, lowest dropped) Lab Writeup 100 Microworlds 50 Total Points: 940 Quizzes: During the course of the term, there will be 6 quizzes given during lecture.
