MARIST COLLEGE Catholic School for Girls, Years 7 to 13 Term 4 - Number 4 Friday 24 November 2017 From the Principal Dear Parents and Guardians, On Saturday the Marist community from far and wide gathered to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the foundation of the Marist Sisters. Father David Kennerley, the Marist Fathers' Provincial celebrated Mass. Sister Marie Challacombe reflected on her recent visits to the historic sites in Coutouvre, Bellay and Cerdon in France and a beautiful image compilation was presented depicting this early Marist history to the three Marist schools (image shown at right). We continue to be very grateful for the rich history on which our school was founded. Last week both Year 8 and Year 10 enjoyed EOTC travelling to Tongariro and Matamata for camps. We thank all those involved in organising such wonderfully challenging experiences for our students, in particular Ms Megan Hartevelt and Miss Gemma Hick. Mā te atua koutou e manaaki. May our God bless us all. Mrs Monica Johnson, Principal Year 10 Camp Student Feedback I loved all the activities and enjoyed getting to know my group better. I really want to go back. I enjoyed the different environment and challenges the group went through. I loved how we got to decide what we did & stuff. I enjoyed everything, especially the caving, being challenged and the overnight camp was fun! I loved getting to do things that were out of my comfort zone; getting to meet new people, seeing snow and the glow worms. I loved the feeling of accomplishment on every activity we did and taking a break from normal life. I also really loved my instructors. It was an amazing experience. The water and mountain days were my favourite I loved everything! The food was really nice and homey. I was challenged a lot, but it was so thrilling and exciting. Year 8 Camp Students Feedback "It was fun and I was able to get closer to my friends". "Camp was a blast! Us Year 8 girls strengthened our relationships while having an awesome time doing the activities." "This year's camp was an amazing and memorable experience. I had so much fun bonding with other people around me." "Camp was amazing! There were so many unforgettable experiences and several opportunities to bond with our Marist sisters! It was way too fun to forget!" "Camp was interesting, funny, weird." "I enjoyed the adventure run and the canadian slide, they were really cool." "Totara Springs was really fun and the various activities were a wonderful experience. But most of all I enjoyed spending time with my sisters and getting to know them." Congratulations to Sophie Holubicka for getting a Silver medal at the waterpolo nationals. Sophie took part in the recent Under 16's national competition for Waterpolo tournament and her team, Atlantis Aqua, came 2nd in the first division. It's an amazing result. Congratulations Marist Futsal Champions! What a nail-biting game to end the season! Our top of the table clash against Macleans College saw our Marist girls show great character to come from behind to record a 4-4 draw, remaining unbeaten and securing the First Division Championship! A huge thankyou to all our supporters who turned up to cheer on our girls on Friday and throughout the season. A special mention to Ruby Stemson who donned the Marist College colours for the very last time. We are all thrilled to be able to send you off with a 'Championship Winning Medal' and we sincerely wish you all the very best in life's next journey! John Vujnovich

HOMESTAYS REQUIRED Short term individuals (one term or less) and long term (one school year) Short Term We are looking for families to host a short term individual student from Japan for Term one 2018. We have 7 or 8 Japanese girls coming to Marist for 8-10 weeks in Term one of next year. This will be a slightly different experience to the short term groups as they will have time to settle in with the rhythms of your family life and also life at school. The girls arrive late-january (various start dates) and will start school on 1st February 2018 until the end of March 2018 when they will return to their schools in Japan. Long Term One school Year We also need 2 or 3 families who are able to host a long term student for the year. Homestay Payment will be $280 per week per student. Please note that these students cannot be in a homestay with other Japanese speaking people/students in the same family, nor with a male international student in the same family. Another female international student from a different culture is fine. As a homestay host you would be expected to provide the students with a clean and warm room with the following: A comfortable bed Good lighting Heating Enough space for suitcases/drawers and wardrobe for longer stays Access to clean toilet and bathroom Access to a laundry facilities Three nutritious meals per full day of stay Reasonable access to internet (Wifi) We will offer you full support and be available to discuss any questions you have at any time.
