Preamble: In accordance with 44 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG) dated 14 December 2009 (GVBI. II 70-257), both the Faculty Board of the department for Industrial Engineering and Technology Management as well as the Senate of the Wilhelm Büchner University have passed the following Examination Regulations on 24.03.2017 for the Master s Program in IT- Management - International. 1 Scope These Examination Regulations fulfil, supplement and complement the General Examinations Rules (Allgemeine Bestimmungen für Prüfungsordnungen) of the Wilhelm Büchner University of 18 September 2015 in their respective version. 2 Admission Requirements (1) Applicants shall have completed a degree program (Master, Bachelor, German "Diplom") of 180 credit points in business administration, economics, industrial engineering, engineering science, natural sciences, information technology or a related subject in order to be admitted to the Master's Program in IT-Management - International. Graduates of both German and international public or private colleges of cooperative education can be admitted if their qualification is considered to be equal to a German university degree. Applicants must have achieved at least a "good" grade or grade B in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) in their final examination. The Examinations Committee shall make decisions on recognition of other previous qualifications (e.g. degrees in other subjects, foreign university degrees) and other cases in accordance with its function as a selection panel. (2) Graduates of economics and business administration can be accepted, if - they can provide certified proof of at least 12 ECTS of prior academic training from the field of computer science or - they incorporate a sufficient amount of computer science into their degree course by choosing the module Distributed Information Systems in the field Fundamentals and by not choosing the module Market and Project Management field Compulsory Electives. In case of any doubts, the university may conduct an eligibility assessment. (3) This degree course requires adequate command of the English language in order to ensure that the academic progress of applicants is not hindered by language difficulties. The applicants command of the English language must at least correspond with level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Applicants must take proper actions to reach this level of English and prove their English competencies with an adequate certificate (e.g. CAE, IELTS, TELC or TOEFL) before starting the course. 3 Recognition of Prior Learning (1) A maximum of 30 credits points can be recognized for course work if they have been earned in a Bachelor s or Diplom degree course of at least 7 semesters and are considered to be relevant to this Master s degree course. The Examinations Committee shall decide on recognition of such work. (2) Paragraph 1 is to be applied, with necessary changes made, to postgraduate courses which award ECTS credit points. - 3 -

4 Course Objectives (1) The Master s degree course in IT-Management is an application oriented degree course. It provides in-depth scientific foundations and methods of the management disciplines in information systems and information technologies. Graduates should manage the integrated planning, creation and optimisation of infrastructures, systems and processes in the field of IT in particular and taking into account elements of modern organizational development. The course gives the ability to develop and apply appropriately new methods and procedures for problem solving in the context of a management in IT systems and information technologies. Another aim is the deepening of key qualifications like communication skills and mediation competences. (2) The course teaches academically sound methods to enable graduates to enhance and strengthen the competitiveness of enterprises. Beside the special knowledge in IT- Management graduates can show an understanding of essential and course-relates management as well as IT-project and quality management, IT-innovation management and information and IT-service management. As well as in general management disciplines, such as corporate management, project management, organizational development, finance and costing. 5 Course and Examination Structure (1) The regular period of study is four semesters (Leistungssemester) with 120 credit points (CP) 1. This includes all course work and examinations required for the modules. One credit point corresponds to a workload of 30 hours. (2) The modular structure of the curriculum, covering credit points which have to be achieved, examinations and also course work certificates, is illustrated in the appendix to these Examination Regulations. (3) The list of core and elective modules with the different aspects of IT-Management can be modified and added to by the faculty for modernization and further development of the course. 6 Required Examination Work (1) The nature and extent of the continuous assessments of each module are detailed in the Appendix. 7 Academic Requirements for the Master s Thesis (1) Admission to the Master s thesis requires candidates to meet the following requirements: a) requirements in accordance with 9 of the general examinations rules (Allgemeine Bestimmungen für Prüfungsordnungen), b) evidence of passed continuing assessments (Appendix), 1 The Wilhelm Büchner University uses the word Leistungssemester to indicate the workload. The total number of credits assigned to a Leistungssemester is 30 CP. This contrasts with a curricular semester which lasts six months. - 4 -

(2) Candidates can be admitted to the Master s thesis if they have no more than 2 continuous assessments of the 3 rd or 4 th curriculum semester outstanding. The missing assessments must have been completed at the time of the submission of the thesis at the latest. 8 Subject, Nature and Extent of the Master s Examination The Master s examination comprises: a) continuing assessments, b) the Master s thesis including the oral examination. 9 Master s Thesis and Oral Examination (1) The lead time for the Master s thesis is six (6) months. Topic, remit and extent of the Master s thesis are to be defined by the supervisor in such a way as to ensure that the lead time for the Master s thesis can be adhered to. (2) An extension may be granted for reasons for which the person to be examined cannot be held responsible; the extension should not exceed two (2) months. The examination board shall decide on such extensions. (3) The oral examination on the subject of the Master s thesis completes the Master s Examination. The result of the oral examination is to be taken into account when determining the overall result of the Master s thesis. 10 Academic Title Wilhelm Büchner University, following successful completion of the Master s Program, issues the academic title Master of Science (M.Sc.). 11 Taking Effect These examination regulations come into effect on the day after its publication. In case these examination regulations will be replaced by a subsequent version, students can continue their studies by these or any applicable preceding examination regulations from the day the present examination regulations come into effect until the supervision time of their degree course expires.
