I congratulate the club on the progress made at Mukono on the construction of the Rotary hospital. You have made my longtime friend George Harvey Baskerville Kibuuka Lule Kasedde Mukasa happy at last, after many years of silent frustration. Congratulations too on putting the Rotary Club of Kampala where it belongs as the father and grandfather of Rotary in Uganda. Not many Rotarians in the younger clubs know about the long list of accomplishments by the Rotary Club of Kampala. global average size of clubs has shrunk from 42 members in 1997 to 24 members today. Rotary membership needs to grow and it starts in clubs. In Marrakech in November, I launched the Owori Recommended Rotary Density (ORRD) for Africa which I first announced at ROTA in Dar-es Salaam in July. The goal is that in the short to medium term, Africa should aim at membership of 0.01% of population in every country. This would translate into about 3,400 Rotarians for Uganda, and 100,000 Rotarians for the continent of Africa. So far, Seychelles and Mauritius have exceeded that figure, while Uganda is not too far. With over 75 clubs in Uganda, this works out at an average of 45 members per club. This is only 5 more than the minimum of 40 classifications which every new club is expected to show at formation to demonstrate sustainability. Globally women constitute 19% of membership while men are 81%. Here too, the Rotary Club of Kampala has performed better than global average. Congratulations on sharply lowering the average age in Uganda s oldest club, the Rotary Club of Kampala. This gives hope to our organization, where 18% of the membership is 70 years and over, and 70% of the global membership is 50 years and over. Continued on pg 3 Congratulations on the modest membership growth achieved at a time when the 1 N A M U Z I G A

Remarks from the Buddy Group Leader SIX MONTHS INTO THE ROTARY YEAR 2014-15. Dear Rotarians, Rotaractors and Guests, It gives me great pleasure to share with you my six months journey into this Rotary Year 2014-15. On behalf of the PP Kasedde Buddy group I wish all Rotarians and friends a merry Christmas and a Happy 2015. You have all been great company in 2015 as we serve above self. This has been a memorable year with the passionate stewardship of IPP Enid and the visionary leadership of President David. We can t forget the career guidance with the Interactors, the medical camps at the health centres, the ground-breaking for the Mukono Hospital project, the visit to the hospital project, the fun packed fellowships, the glamorous installation, the recent fundraiser and many more rotary moments. Let us also draw our attention to the many lives we have touched and those that we have changed for the better. Thank you all for making this year a one to behold. Next year 2015, has a lot in store for us, surely we join hand and make it the best year in rotary, let us step up the rotary spirit, work together for a better world by working towards the ideals of Rotary. The PP Kasedde Buddy Group wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Geoffrey Ayebare It has been a journey full of fun, fellowship, service and a milestone. But it has also had some lows. My perceptions of Rotary have changed in that time. When President David asked me to be part of his Board as Director Club Administration I will admit I was probably reviewing my involvement in Rotary, at least subconsciously. I had been a member for about two years at that time, and don t get me wrong, I was enjoying it, but I probably hadn t committed to the fullest extent. Being asked to do a job changed all of that for me. It made me seek other members out, to get to know the faces, the names and their stories. It made me want to engage in our activities, to learn what we actually did, and to actually do it. It opened my eyes to what a wonderful Organization Rotary is, and what wonderful people we have in our Club. Rotary is like coming home to family every week I come through the doors on a Thursday. The challenge for us as a Club, and as a movement, is to make that experience visible and available to those who want to take part. I believe that our core values of fun, fellowship and service are as relevant now as they were in 1957 when this Club 5 N A M U Z I G A
