eclass 4.1 Training Notes The eclass 4.1 training is designed for the first-time users. It prepares users to have adequate skills for creating online materials and communicating with their students. In this training session, we will be focusing on 3 main areas: econtent, Assessment & Communication. eclass Overview Here is a brief introduction of eclass variety of functions : Icon Resources : Function Using eclass as resources storage can have the benefit of easy accessing and central management. Also, this can avoid using external portable storage device. econtent : Teachers can store all resources related to teaching as electronic text books/notes, allowing students to have self study, practice and review at home. Also, this can be coordinating with online homework, exercises, forum etc. Assessment : An assessment tool with automatic marking system, allowing students to have self test. It also come with statistical analysis for teachers to review individual progress. Forum : Allowing in between students or with teachers of online discussion. This can be specific communication channel for teacher on particular topics. Member : Consisting the list of students and teachers, which can be formed into groups for project or subject groups. Report : Teachers can access statistics report of students learning progress by their assessment report and eclass usage. 1

(1) Resources: 1.1 Manage Resources File There are 3 types of file cabinet in default, for storing teaching materials: Cabinet Types Permissions Personal cabinet [Grey] Student cabinet [Green] Teacher cabinet [Orange] For Teacher/ Teaching Assistant of that eclass only For Teacher, Teaching Assistant and Students of that eclass to access. All teachers in the same school can access, not bounded by eclass. Cabinet Corresponding Classroom Runction ebook Resources > Glossary Assessment > Assignment, Project, Survey Assessment (the uploaded files from student handed-in assignment) Resources > Question Bank Resources > Reference File (for Course Outline images) Resources > Public File (for student download and upload files) Resources > Group File (for group member download and upload files) Resources > File (can be access by all teachers) 1.2 Upload File to Content 1. Go to Resources > eclass Files > Content 2. Click on the cabinet,then click Upload File icon in the middle 3. Click Browse to choose file and you can click to upload multiple files 4. You can fill in the description and set permissions of the files. 5. Permissions : Read or Read & Write Read mean other users can only read the file but not edit or delete. Read & Write mean other eclass users can have full access of your file including edit & delete. If none of the box ticked, means file is accessible by the owner only. 6. You can choose permissions for Group or All Users (as the diagram) 7. Click Submit when finished. 2

1.3 Create Question Before creating Online Question Paper, questions have to be created in Question Bank. You can open some questions for students to revise in Assessment > Self- Test. New question Online Help is available 1. Go to Resources > Question Bank 2. Click New 3. Add / select a question category and specify question type, difficulties 4. Compose questions & answers using Rich text editor. File attachment are supported. 5. Optionally support your question with additional information (hint, explanation, reference). Also, you can open the question for self-test 6. Click Submit to finish. Status : set status for different questions Draft : unfinished questions, only teachers can access For Paper Use (Published) : Only used by Teachers Question sheet. Public to Student : Open for students self test 7. You can use Import to import a bunch of questions : - Click Import > download sample file - According to the sample file to prepare TXT or ZIP file. - Click Browser to upload the file. - Fill in the information needed and click Submit when finished. Remark : Fill in the Blank question can support multiple answers. You can use in the [ ] to separate the multiple answers. Press Shift + \ to input. 3

(2) econtent : 2.1 econtent Overview econtent is composed by three basic types, including Text & Graphics, Video(embed code) and Hyperlink. This will empower teachers to freely utilizing the online web resources combining with teacher materials. This will be a unique online teaching material, giving the ultimate flexibility for teachers and students. Also, it can be enriched by related assessment and forum. These vocabulary will be underlined. Can include Forum and assessment Teachers and students can exchange ideas about the page 4

2.2 econtent composition steps 1. Input Title Online Help is available 2. Select type of content you want to show/include in this page 3. Set Public or Private 4. Click Submit 1. Go to econtent > New 2. Input Title & Description, then select type of content to show/include: Icon Type Procedure URL 1. URL : input or paste URL link, then click Add 2. Text & Graphics : can type in, paste content or insert image, then click Add Video 3. Embed code : paste embed code of online video(e.g. YouTube), then Add 4. Video file : upload video file File 5. File upload : click Direct upload or eclass Resources Sound 6. Sound file upload : click URL or Sound file Remarks : Sound (Recording), Concept Map, Courseware are optional tools for purchase. 3. Each econtent page can have multiple sections and you can re-arrange their sequence order by moving them with their section header. Repeat this step to input different section as needed. 4. In the Settings section of this page to define its location and status. (Public means both teacher and student can access, Private means only teacher can access) 5. Click Submit when you finish 5

2.3 Manage Index 1. Click Manage 2. You may Public or Private all contents at once. 3. Click Move or Swap to re-arrange pages order (3) Assessment : 3.1 Assessment Overview Assessment has combined the previous functions of simple Assessment, Project, Exercise and Quiz into 1. It provides a more flexible and compatible way for designing different assessment to student. New Assessment Online Help is available Public : Open to students Private : Close to students Edit : Edit individual assessment Copy : Duplicate to a new assessment Delete : Delete selected assessment Click the number to mark the assessment 3.2 Assessment composition steps 1. Input Title Default Task title can be amend 5. can include standard answer (as needed) 2. Choose the type of assessment 3. Click Next or Finish 4. can include data file / reference 6. set up Marking Method 6

7. Set up submit period and status 8. Submit [Remarks] There can be different tasks in the same assessment. If needed, please repeat the steps. Completed steps are shown in yellow; In progress step is shown in white; Un-completed steps are shown in grey. 1. Go to Assessment > New 2. Fill in the assessment Title & Description 3. Select assessment method Icon Types Procedure Question Paper / Answer Sheet Online Work (Optional purchase) File Upload 1. Question Paper : Same as the previous Exercise or Quiz/Exam function, need to prepare questions in the Question Bank before. 2. Answer Sheet : through the rick text editor, teachers can compose, edit or upload worksheet. Then create answer sheet part for student to submit answers. 3. Online Writing : student can submit writing online at once. 4. Concept Map : student can use PowerConcept drawing tools to compose concept. 5. Sound Recording : student can use PowerVoice tools to record sound file online. 6. Request students to submit file (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, mp3 recording etc.) No Submission 7. Appropriate for the task which cannot hand-in on the platform, such as model making, face to face presentation and then teacher can submit marks. Remarks : Sound (Recording), Concept Map, Courseware are optional tools for purchase. 4. After finish setup the task, mark and reference file, model answer and Public / Private to student, click Submit to finish. 7

5. Teacher can compose assessment with multiple tasks and phases. Tasks can be reordered over different phases. To reorder tasks, simply click and drag & drop the task. Remarks : teacher can learn more about Manage Assessment Phase in Video Tutorials (Ref. # compose online question paper [you must build up your Question Bank first] - choose Question Paper, new window pop up - click to create new questions - select the level of difficulties and questions for your paper; use the checkbox on the right of selected questions to select, then click Select - close the window after completion - adjust the marks allocation for each question, then click Submit to finish 3.3 Marking an Assessment 1. To mark an assessment, click on the number of 2. Then teacher will see who, when and what is there for that assessment. 3. Teacher can filter the list by the status : Not Submitted : list of students not submitted To Mark : list of students submitted, teacher can select individual to mark or if it is an answer sheet or question paper, can select by the check box and click Marked : list of students had submitted Auto Mark (4) Forum : 1. Go to Forum > New 2. Fill in Name, Description, Image, Target Groups 3. Decide Helper or Student can upload attachment 9

(5) Member : Go to Member 1. Can review list of teachers and students, also setup groups 2. To create groups, click Remarks : A group folder will be created automatically under the Resources > eclass files > Group cabinet. (6) Report : Teacher can monitor students learning progress, can check up on by log report, assessment report and self test report. 1. Go to Report New Group 2. Select different type of report as needed (7) Classroom Setting : On the top right corner, click the Tools icon, to open the Settings menu bar Click on the small scroll icon to return normal function bar 10

Classroom Settings menu has different tools as follow : Icon Basic Settings : Function Introduction Edit classroom general information, include : Classroom Name, Description, Interface Language, Course Logo & Subject Group. Access Rights : According subject and level needed, define modules / functions to be opened. You can also define visitor s rights and access certain parts of the classroom. Or you can set up Teaching Assistant right to assist classroom management. Features : You can set properties of various functions of the classroom. The following is suggested setting : (1) Play multimedia files in browswer (2) Use Drag-and-drop for Page Ordering (3) Randomize multiple-choice choices for each attempt Archive : This will allow teacher to back up the classroom, for changing from one classroom to another one, or re-use resources and teaching materials in new classroom. Word Template : You can reuse common phrases for Comment, Marking Code* and Marking Scheme* for online marking use. Remarks * : Marking Code & Marking Scheme are for use with Online Essay Marking Tool add-on (optional purchase) House-keeping : Teacher can save server space by clearing unnecessary data at the end of school term and prepare for next school term to use. 11

(8) Compose Announcement / Poll / Survey : At homepage > Announcement / Poll / Survey >, Fill in details and submit. * Survey production can reference to Steps of Composing Answer Sheet. Click to create Icon Function Introduction Show related activities and calendar to student Show teaching progress and schedule to student Show course outline, structure for student to have better overview of the course Show announcements to student Can hold teaching related poll Create survey for statistics analyst (9) Personal Settings : Right hand top corner has icons for you to personalize the classroom : Icon Function Introduction Change Role : Teacher can change role to review particular student s view of the classroom (but teacher can t do submission). Change Font Size : can change to Large, Normal, Small font Change Skin : can change the background image or change color scheme for viewing ease. Change Negation Bar Size : Can choose to use big or small icon in menu bar Home : Back to homepage of the classroom Eng / 繁 :Can set default language in Settings Logout / Visit other classroom 12
