Every summer, this prestigious institution of higher learning opens the doors of its Paris campus to host the Sciences Po Summer School in the social sciences and French language. Summer School students take full advantage of the best of Sciences Po, including renowned professors, a first-rate research library, and an enviable location in the heart of the historic Saint Germain-des-Prés neighbourhood.
STUDY Social sciences and/or French language Two academic tracks are offered each session. Social sciences track Students of the social sciences track choose one core course for intensive study for the duration of the session. Most classes are conducted in English, but students may also choose a class taught entirely in French. In addition to their core social sciences class, participants may also elect to take a second, elective class. French language track Students in the French language track take classes at one of six levels adapted to their knowledge of the French language. At all levels, language study accounts for the majority of class time. At the beginner levels, this learning is reinforced through tutorials and activites. At advanced levels, students take a variety of classes designed to prepare them for study within the French education system. Summer School students must choose one track per session. Those who participate in both sessions may pick the same track twice, or elect to change tracks for the second session. The professors at Sciences Po are amazingly knowledgeable and can discuss complex issues in a straightforward way. EXPLORE Life in the heart of Paris Studying in the City of Light The Summer School makes the most of its Parisian setting. Academic programmes utilise the city as a laboratory for learning, and feature trips to monuments, museum exhibitions, and guided tours through historic districts. Paris before and after class From the Sciences Po campus, students can easily reach some of the city s most famous landmarks on foot, including the Musée d Orsay, the Luxembourg gardens, the Louvre and the banks of the Seine river. Outside of class, Summer School students use their Sciences Po student card to benefit from significant entrance discounts to a vast number of cultural institutions, including most museums, cinemas, concerts and theatres. The Summer School also proposes a variety of cultural visits and other activities to give students the opportunity to discover the city of Paris, as well as French history and culture. It s a unique opportunity to learn about French history, literature or politics in class, and then to be able to see the monuments, museums, and places where it all happened or is still happening. PRACTICAL INFORMATION One Summer School, many options Summer School students can create a schedule to meet their own academic and personal goals. Students may choose to attend the June session, the July session, or both sessions for a full two months.
