President s Farewell October 2014 MACRAO Insider MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGIATE REGISTRARS AND ADMISSIONS OFFICERS Dear Colleagues, The 2014 annual MACRAO conference - Soaring to New Heights is rapidly approaching and my time as MACRAO President this year has been wonderful and is slowly winding down. I have appreciated everyone s support, confidence in me and kind encouragements as I led this organization through many transitions, challenges and opportunities over the past two years. Serving as the leader for this outstanding organization has been an extraordinary experience and I am looking forward to transitioning to the Past President position and handing over the reigns to John as your incoming MACRAO President. My involvement on the Executive Committee has proven that we are an organization of strong volunteers, working hard to strengthen our mission and serve the communities in which we live and work. Special thanks are extended to the Committees, Chairs/Co-chairs and the Executive Committee for your unwavering service to MACRAO. The 2013 Business Meeting Minutes, 2014 proposed Articles of Incorporation and Bylaw changes and the 2013-2014 Committee Reports are posted on our website. Please take a moment to review committee accomplishments and thank those members for the great work that they have done throughout the past year in moving MACRAO forward and providing great professional development opportunities. I am looking forward to what 2015 will bring as we explore the upgrading of our Michigan Transfer Network, the transition of the new MTA (Michigan Transfer Agreement) taking place this fall for the first time, the possibility of new leadership structures within the organization and a great slate of candidates to whom the membership will be voting in that will take leadership of MACRAO to a new level! I cannot wait to see all of you in just a few short weeks at the MACRAO annual conference being held at the Boyne Mountain Resort, Boyne Falls, MI, November 5-7. I hope that you will attend as this will be a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, learn about the changes happening in Enrollment Management, share best practices from across the state and moreover having tons of fun with the homecoming theme! Articles of Incorporation and Bylaw Updates As a follow-up to the email sent to the MACRAO membership on Monday, September 22, 2014, per Article V of the Association s Bylaws, the Executive Committee shall be responsible for circulating proposed amendments must be submitted to the Executive Committee sixty (60) days prior to the Annual Meeting and the Executive Committee shall be responsible for circulation the proposed amendments at least 45 days prior to the Annual Meeting. The Executive Committee sent a recommendation your way for review via email on September 22, 2014. The proposed Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws will be presented for vote at our Business Lunch on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Boyne Mountain Resort in Boyne Falls, MI. After last year s tri-state conference in Indiana, MACRAO returns home to Michigan! Come celebrate MACRAO s homecoming by attending this year s annual conference at Boyne Mountain Resort, November 5-7, 2014. This year s theme is Soaring to New Heights: Re-Imagining the Enrollment Profession. Come to Boyne to learn how to cope with the impending changes to the enrollment profession! Save the Date - 2015 Leadership Retreat 2015 Leadership Retreat For: All incoming Committee Chairs, Co- Chairs and all Executive Committee Members When: Friday, December 12, 2014 Where: Macomb Community College South Campus Time: 9:00 am 3:00 pm Meet Kyle Wigboldy Kyle Wigboldy has been appointed to the post of Registrar at Kuyper College. Wigboldy is responsible for the development and publishing of the academic calendar, course offerings, course schedules, and the direction of the registration processes in collaboration with the provost and the faculty. As chair of the Assessment Committee, he provides leadership in establishing and managing student learning outcomes and program assessments. According to Wigboldy, his objective is to help students develop and grow in a college environment. I believe there is a lot to be learned, not just in the classroom, but outside the classroom on how we interact with one another, how we learn about the world and about one another, and how we build community, he said. Prior to Kuyper, Wigboldy served as assistant director of financial aid at Trinity Christian College in Chicago, Illinois. OU Male Regi-Stars Participate in Septembeard The Oakland University Male Regi-Stars participated in the National Septembeard fundraiser for prostate cancer research. The team decided to a grow a beard for the month of September, posts photos of those beards and ask family and friends to sponsor them. The team competed against people and teams across the country to raise the most money. To date, the team has raised approximately $1,000. Members of the OU Regi-Star team are: Steve Shablin, Paul Battle, Chris Goeth, Josh Stotts and Jonathan Mann. The above picture is from week 3. Page 5
Please join the MACRAO Executive Committee (EC) in thanking Past President, Katherine McMullen and Treasurer, Christine Bedz, for their dedication and service on the EC and to the MACRAO organization. We bid them farewell as their term ends at the annual conference. Katherine has served an extended term on the EC. Her passion, commitment and leadership has been a great contribution to MACRAO. Christine Bedz has been committed to her position of Treasurer since 2011. Chris has done a great job managing the organization s finances. We would like to also extend thanks to Carrie Jeffers, for her leadership, dedication and her work toward ensuring the sustainability of our organization as MACRAO President.
