Mission & Areas Served Statements Mission Statement To use the spirit of amateur boxing as a vehicle to teach young men and women the value of work ethic, sportsmanship, and the relationship between setting a goal and obtaining it through self-discipline and healthy exercise. Background Statement The Community Boxing & Fitness Center started in 2005 in Kansas City, Kansas. The program was the result of a vision by three concerned Christian men who regularly watched youth and young adults hanging out on the streets after school and on the weekends. After brainstorming how they could use their personal talents and abilities these concerns for the community, Community Boxing Fitness Youth Center was organized. Since April 2008 Community Boxing Youth Center has been a 501 (3) not for profit organization. Impact Statement Since beginning services in 2005 and maintaining operations in our current location and operating 3 programs of Youth and Community Fitness Programs Commit to Be FIT, Computer Training and After School Tutoring Services. Perhaps the greatest accomplishment lies in the testimonials of youth who have used the programs and have excelled in furthering their academic pursuits and have remained positive in the community. Needs Statement The singular greatest need of this program is to complete a structural upgrade of the building. The next series of needs would be an increase in the amount of technology to fuse with the computer tutoring programs, an increase in funding to expand capacity by an additional 50 youth. Service Categories Recreation & Sports NEC 2

Programs Programs Fitness Program Description Category The fitness program is a balance of activity and healthy nutrition and lifestyle that consists of weightlifting, coordination exercises, running and learning of what constitutes a nutritious diet and lifestyle. Recreation & Sports, General/Other Physical Fitness Population Served General/Unspecified,, Short-Term Success Long- Term Success Program Success Monitored By Examples of Program Success The changes of behavior in the youth has been quite remarkable to witness as the youth and their parents have been able to verify goal development, planning and the ability to control and discuss their emotions as it relates to self-control and discipline. The ultimate program goal is to gain peak physical fitness along with emotional and psychological awareness to understand the linkage between creating and working towards goals and become a positive, disciplined and balanced individual. Community Boxing and Fitness is successful as each year the amount of individuals who participate in the programming is on the rise to now there are a consistent 100 individuals who utilize the facilities and programming. There are many stories of individual youth who have been able to find discipline in the ring of life after finding the balance they always had within, but if I was to judge one that is truly a beacon of a story of hope that all people can find a common bond and ground for improvement it would be the story of Mr. Ross. Mr. Ross came from Liberty, Missouri to participate in our program and being one of the few Caucasian kids in the program was able to work on self-esteem, overcome his anger issues and become a college student in the Bloch Business School. 3

Round 2 Description Round 2 is a learning and resource center started in 2012. Round 2 consists of a safe place where the skills developed are centered around providing to youth, their families, and senior citizens reading and math tutoring, technology access through computers. There also is a room that is used for community meetings and dances. Category Human Services, General/Other Personal Social Services Population Served General/Unspecified,, Short-Term Success Long- Term Success Program Success Monitored By Examples of Program Success The individuals who have begun Round 2 report an overall rise in their technical skills on computers, a rise in reading and math skills which in turn made youth feel more confident in their classes. The goal of Round 2 is to gain familiarity and competence of technology and apply it to employment preparation skills, resume building and literacy by researching current events. The testimonials for this program are simple as the gains of watching people access technology and discover that they can learn with practice, patience and planning is the greatest victory of all.
