Career-Focused Associate Degree Programs You may quaify for an associate degree in any of our state-of-the-art technica programs, taught by experienced facuty who provide you with hands-on training on industryspecific equipment. By the time you graduate, you have the technica skis and knowedge to hit the ground running in your chosen fied. Associate+Bacheor s Degree Programs If you are interested in a bacheor s degree, but aren t ready to enter directy into one of RIT s bacheor s degree programs, you may quaify to enter an Associate+Bacheor s Degree Program and start on the road to academic success. These programs prepare you to earn an associate degree in an NTID program before enroing into a bacheor s degree program in one of the other coeges of RIT. Pre-Baccaaureate Programs If you re interested in a bacheor s degree program in the Kate Geason Coege of Engineering, Coege of Heath Sciences and Technoogy, Coege of Imaging Arts and Sciences, Coege of Libera Arts, or Coege of Science, but need to compete a sma number of courses to quaify for admission, you may be eigibe to enter a pre-baccaaureate program. A pre-baccaaureate programs are individuaized, and panned with you and your academic adviser to hep you prepare for your bacheor s degree program. Career Exporation Studies If you want to coect additiona information about associate degree careers and majors before deciding on a program of study, or if you need additiona academic preparation and study to be ready for a major, Career Exporation Studies may be the right option for you. This program offers you the opportunity to do a career search whie you deveop a better understanding of yoursef with the hep of career and persona counseing, take decision-making casses and sampe various majors. An Accessibe and Supportive Learning Environment Access and Support Services provided more than 149,000 hours of interpreting services. In addition to cassroom interpreting, you aso may request interpreting services for non-academic activities such as athetic events, reigious services, student government meetings, guest presentations and other student ife activities. Notetaking Trained student notetakers record information during cass or aboratory ectures, discussions and mutimedia presentations. The resuting cass notes are upoaded to the web, so you can easiy access them. Last year, RIT/NTID provided more than 61,000 hours of notetaking services for students. Rea-Time Captioning Services This service provides a comprehensive Engish text dispay of cassroom ectures and discussion. Students read this text during cass and may print it as a permanent record of cassroom discussions. Career-Focused Associate Degree Programs If you take courses at NTID, facuty members wi communicate directy with you using a variety of strategies, which may incude sign anguage with voice, sign anguage without voice, spoken anguage (FM systems are avaiabe), fingerspeing, printed/visua aids, web-based instructiona materias and individua tutoring. In cases where a facuty member s communication strategies do not appropriatey meet your needs, you can request access services from the Department of Access Services for courses at NTID via the MyAccess.RIT.edu website. As a student taking NTID courses, you wi have access to a state-of-the-art earning center staffed by professiona and peer tutors. An assigned counseor wi work cosey with you to hep you pan your coegiate experience and provide you with persona, socia, career and academic advising and counseing services. Bacheor s Degree Programs If you quaify to take courses in the Coege of Appied Science and Technoogy, Saunders Coege of Business, B. Thomas Goisano Coege of Computing and Information Sciences, Kate Geason Coege of Engineering, Coege of Heath Sciences and Technoogy, Coege of Imaging Arts and Sciences, Coege of Libera Arts, or Coege of Science, RIT/NTID wi provide the educationa access services you need. You can choose from among sign anguage interpreting, FM systems, notetaking or reatime captioning services. Aternative services aso may be provided. You aso wi have access to a unique system of educationa support services such as tutoring by experienced facuty tutors, persona and career counseing and academic advisers. Interpreting RIT/NTID has the argest staff of professiona sign anguage interpreters of any coege program in the word. Last year, RIT/NTID Tutoring/Advising Facuty tutors/advisers hep answer your questions and carify concepts and information taught in casses. They aso provide academic advising, discuss programs and career goas with you, and hep you pan your schedue, seect casses and prepare for cooperative (co-op) work experiences. Associate+Bacheor s Degree Programs If you quaify for these programs, NTID instructors wi use a variety of strategies to communicate directy with you in your courses. Upon graduation, these programs ead to immediate entry into we-paying careers at the paraprofessiona or technician eve. Associate in Occupationa Studies (AOS): This degree requires 45-52 semester credit hours of technica coursework. In addition to satisfactoriy competing technica courses, you must compete 15 semester credit hours in the NTID genera education curricuum. Associate in Appied Science (AAS): This degree requires 48-52 semester credit hours of technica coursework. In addition to satisfactoriy competing technica courses, you must compete 18 semester credit hours in genera education courses offered primariy through the Coege of Libera Arts as we as six semester credit hours in mathematics and science. In some programs (see chart above), this degree prepares you to appy for entry to bacheor s degree programs in other RIT coeges. Associate+Bacheor s Degree Programs These associate degree programs prepare quaified students to enro in bacheor s degree programs in other RIT coeges. Associate in Science (AS) and seected Associate in Appied Science (AAS): This degree requires the competion of 30-31 semester credit hours of technica coursework and 30-32 semester credit hours in genera education courses and other courses as appropriate to the degree. The majority of courses are offered through the other coeges of RIT. This degree prepares you to enter and compete a bacheor s degree program in the Coege of Appied Science and Technoogy, Saunders Coege of Business, the B. Thomas Goisano Coege of Computing and Information Sciences, or the Coege of Libera Arts. 6

Appied Computer Technoogy (AOS and AAS Degree Programs) If you choose the AOS or AAS degree program, you have the option of choosing to concentrate in either computer tech support or networking and cyber security. Computer Tech Support The computer tech support concentration deveops skis specific to working with peope to sove their computer-reated probems. These skis prepare you to work at a hep desk and respond to cients computer probems, and perform setup, upgrades and repairs to computers and computer peripheras. Networking and Cyber Security As a student in the networking and cyber security concentration, you deveop skis specific to network and network security support, incuding server set-up, support and administration; network set-up, troubeshooting and repair; identifying and impementing security poicies; and instaing appropriate hardware and software to support a secure and robust network. Appied Computer Technoogy (Associate+Bacheor s Degree Program) The AS in appied computer technoogy prepares you to enter and successfuy compete a bacheor s degree in information technoogy within RIT s B. Thomas Goisano Coege of Computing and Information Sciences. Mobie Appication Deveopment (AAS Degree Program) As a student in the AAS mobie appication deveopment program, you wi be prepared for entry-eve work in the software deveopment industry with a focus on appication design and deveopment for mobie patforms. Libera Studies www.rit.edu/ntid/dls Mohammed Khamis Zanzibar, Tanzania Mohammed chose appied ibera arts to provide the academic foundation to pursue a bacheor s degree in psychoogy in RIT s Coege of Libera Arts. My goa is to become a counseor of the deaf in my hometown and improve the ives of the Deaf community there, he says. Visua Communications Studies www.rit.edu/ntid/vcs Andrew Smith Chesterfied, Mo. Andrew is pursuing an associate degree in design and imaging technoogy with a concentration in graphic design. I am very creative, and this major fits me we, says Andrew. He chose RIT/NTID because he has the opportunity to sociaize with deaf, hard-ofhearing and hearing students, and communicate easiy with others. His goa is to become a professiona animator. Peope who work in the visua communications fied are responsibe for designing and producing print and web-based media for business, communication, pubishing, manufacturing, advertising and entertainment. This is an exciting and fast-growing fied that requires a variety of computer-based and traditiona creative skis. Design and Imaging Technoogy (AOS and AAS Degree Programs) You may choose an AOS or AAS degree with a concentration in either graphic design or graphic production. Both degrees are careerfocused, designed to prepare you for direct empoyment foowing graduation. As a graduate of the AAS degree program, you aso may appy for admission to a Bacheor of Fine Arts degree program or a Bacheor of Science degree program in RIT s Coege of Imaging Arts and Sciences. With both AOS and AAS options, you gain rea-word work experience through our required cooperative education program. Depending on your specific concentration and eective course seection, you use computerbased methods to produce drawings, ayouts, iustrations and digita photographic images; prepare documents for print, web and digita distribution; produce interactive digita media; perform digita retouching and restoration of photographic images; design and produce websites; produce computer animations; and pan and produce short-edited videos. Graphic Design This concentration is for students with a creative aptitude and interest. Graphic Production This concentration is for students with a technica/production aptitude and interest. 3D Graphics Technoogy (AAS Degree Program and Associate+Bacheor s Degree Program) The 3D graphics technoogy program offers you an AAS degree that wi provide you with the creative and technica skis required to produce 3D graphics, 3D prints, environmenta renderings and 3D modes used in mutimedia and animation. You be prepared for direct empoyment foowing graduation. You may choose the Associate+Bacheor s Degree Program option, provided you have a 3.0 or higher grade-point average in the program and a strong portfoio. Upon successfu competion of your associate degree, you can appy for admission into RIT s Coege of Imaging Arts and Sciences, where you can pursue a bacheor s degree in 3D digita design. On-Site Communication Services Audioogy At the Audioogy Center, you can receive many services, incuding hearing tests, FM fittings and hearing aid evauations. You aso can purchase batteries, custom sound/swim pugs and earmods, and arrange for hearing aid repairs. Audioogy facuty and staff members, certified by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and icensed by the State of New York, can provide you with an Individua Communication and Ski Deveopment program if you are interested in addressing your communication needs in the areas of speechreading and istening. Cochear Impant Services The Communication Studies and Services Department aso provides one-on-one cochear impant consutations for students who need mapping adjustments, troubeshooting assistance, istening practice or updated audioogica records. Here are j ust a few of the facuty who support your success. Gibert (Gi) Bevery is an assistant professor in NTID s Visua Communications Studies Department. He has taught at NTID for neary 25 years. Bevery has a bacheor of science degree in appied behavior science from the Nationa Coege of Education in Chicago, Iinois, and a master s degree in print management from RIT. He teaches a variety of courses, incuding digita printing, desktop digita media, print production, production and fundamenta core courses. He brings a weath of experience from the print graphics industry and is activey invoved in professiona activities in the graphics industry. Jessica Cucuick is an associate professor in NTID s Department of Libera Studies. She received both a B.S.W. and M.S.Ed. from RIT, an M.S.W. in socia work from East Caroina University, and an Ed.D. from the University of Rochester. She has pubished and/or presented on a variety of topics, incuding reating deaf students reading and anguage scores to their coege degree competion rates; deaf coege students and socia media; and the deaf community and heath care. She aso mentors students in the Bridges to the Doctorate Program, estabished with a grant from the Nationa Institute for Genera Medica Sciences, part of the Nationa Institutes of Heath. Her research interests incude socia media, pubic heath in the deaf community and deaf education. Todd Pagano is the associate dean for Teaching & Schoarship Exceence at RIT/ NTID and was the founding director of NTID s aboratory science technoogy program. He has been recognized for his work at RIT/NTID and throughout the country. During his career at RIT/NTID, he has set up a state-of-the-art instrumentation aboratory, designed the LST degree program and heped to pace numerous deaf and hard-of-hearing individuas into careers in the chemica sciences. He was named 2012 U.S. Professor of the Year by the Counci for Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. He aso received the American Chemica Society Award for Encouraging Disadvantaged Students into Careers in the Chemica Sciences and was named a Feow of the American Chemica Society. In 2005, he received the Eisenhart Provost s Award for Exceence in Teaching from RIT. Pagano has worked on severa pedagogica and chemica research projects and has presented or coauthored more than 60 papers at regiona, nationa and internationa symposia. He earned a doctorate in chemistry from Tufts University. Paua Grcevic, a professor in NTID s Visua Communications Studies Department, is NTID s first two-time recipient of the Eisenhart Award for Exceence in Teaching. She obtained both BFA and MFA degrees from Pratt Institute and started her career at RIT/NTID after working severa years as a fabric designer in Manhattan. Her passion for teaching is evident in the creative ways she finds to motivate her students by providing unique cass activities as a catayst to inspire their thinking. Grcevic is co-founder of, and consutant on, the Deaf Artists website (www.rit.edu/ntid/dccs/dada), which showcases artwork of deaf and hard-of-hearing artists from around the word. Annemarie Ross is an associate professor in the aboratory science technoogy program. She received a Ph.D. in curricuum, instruction and the science of earning from the University of Buffao. She is a graduate of RIT s Coege of Science and spent severa years working in industry as a biochemist prior to coming to RIT/NTID to teach. She credits her sense of pride in RIT/NTID and the strong science background she received here for her desire to return and teach. Ross is a roe mode for women in science fieds, and enjoys interacting with students and preparing them for career success. Brian Trager is an assistant professor in the Information and Computing Studies Department. He received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from RIT/ NTID.
