UQ College assists students in prerequisites for further study UQ College offers specialised programs for school leavers and adult learners seeking to undertake further study. The Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP) offers a very supportive teaching model that builds confidence and helps students gain the necessary academic skills and knowledge to engage in successful tertiary study. TERTIARY PREPARATION PROGRAM The University Of Queensland The Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP) at UQ College offers a supportive education model that builds confidence and helps students gain the necessary skills to improve their QTAC ranking for future undergraduate studies. The Tertiary Preparation Program is delivered over 28 weeks in two trimester periods. The program is offered full-time at UQ College in January, May and September. This program prepares you for success at university and equips you to achieve your ambitions. UQ College currently has no tuition fees for the Tertiary Preparation Program. Students are required to purchase the required text books and to print off materials as required. How to enrol in our TPP: To determine your suitability for this program it is important that you complete a Student Application for Interview Form (available on the UQ College Website). Ensure the application form has been fully completed and signed, and all course entry requirement documents are included. Email your completed application form to info@uqcollege.edu.au or fax to 3346 8224. COLLEGE What happens next? You will be contacted by phone to establish a suitable date and time for an interview. At interview, you will be assessed for suitability on the basis of prior educational qualifications and/or life skills and experience, as well as language, literacy and numeracy skills appropriate for this entry level of study. UQ College will communicate with you regarding the outcome of your interview within five working days.
Assessment: Throughout the Tertiary Preparation Program, academic achievement is carefully monitored and students are given regular feedback on their progress. Assessment depends on the course, but normally comprises two examination papers per course, one or two assignments to be completed by a specified date during the Program, practical work if relevant and seminar participation evaluation. Pre-university courses currently offered in the Tertiary Preparation Program ACADEMIC ENGLISH FOR UNIVERSITY STUDIES: (Core) This is a core course and incorporates three major elements:- Instruction in English for Academic Purposes. Introduction to Australian History Instruction in the use of databases, library and online resources PRE-UNIVERSITY MATHEMATICS A: (Core) This core course covers basic calculations, geometry and measurement, financial mathematics, probability and statistics. This core course provides the learner with knowledge, skills and techniques required in an every-day life application of Mathematics. OR PRE-UNIVERSITY MATHEMATICS B: (Core) This core course aims to develop understanding of basic mathematical ideas and the manipulative skills required for solving mathematical problems. These skills are applied with technological tools to solve problems related to real-life situations. ELECTIVES: PRE-UNIVERSITY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT: (Elective) This course develops students understanding in how to produce technical documents including Business, Strategic, Financial and Marketing Plans. This elective course covers a wide range of theory related to the disciplines of Organisational Behaviour, Finance, Marketing and Human Resource Management and International Business Management. PRE-UNIVERSITY ACCOUNTING: (Elective) This course develops students understanding of accounting. Weekly computer sessions allow students to apply their manual accounting knowledge in a computerised accounting package (MYOB Mind Your Own Business). PRE-UNIVERSITY BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCE: (Elective) This course provides a general introduction to the social sciences. At the completion of the subject students will have been introduced to the facts, concepts and principles of behavioural science that they need to pursue studies in any of the humanities at The University of Queensland. PRE-UNIVERSITY ECONOMICS: (Elective) This course aims to provide students with knowledge and thinking skills in Economics. At the completion of the course students will have been introduced to the key economic concepts, principles and systems required to analyse and evaluate economic information. PRE-UNIVERSITY BIOLOGY: (Elective) This course is designed to provide students with knowledge of scientific concepts and facts in Biology. On completion of this course, students will be able to recall biology-specific concepts, terminology and facts with applied knowledge in complex reasoning processes and appropriate attitudes and values in biological science, and use biology-specific language skills to university entrance standard. PRE-UNIVERSITY CHEMISTRY: (Elective) This course is designed to develop an understanding of basic chemistry concepts. Students will explore atomic structures, chemical formulas and equations, matter, gases, water, solutions, acids and bases, organic and redox reactions and other fascinating topics that will build their general science knowledge. PRE-UNIVERSITY RESEARCH: (Elective) This course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills of critical thinking, problem solving, communication, research and analysis and self-management. Students will explore topical issues through completing a number of small writing tasks that will then lead them to their major research assignment. In semester two, students follow a structured plan under teacher supervision to write their major research assignment, ending with the students presenting their findings in an oral presentation.
UQ College provides alternate pathways to higher education UQ College is delivering courses in Mathematics, Chemistry or Biology in intensive mode over a four week period in November/ December at St Lucia Campus. Successful completion of these courses will satisfy the pre-requisite requirements in Mathematics B, Chemistry or Biology at The University of Queensland. INTENSIVE FOUR WEEK COURSES IN: MATHEMATICS, CHEMISTRY OR BIOLOGY The University Of Queensland St Lucia Campus. Dates Tuesday November 25 to Saturday December 20. Students attend 8.30 am 5pm Monday to Friday, with 4 Saturday Tutorials, of which 3 are optional. Results will be available to be used in applications for the January 2015 QTAC Offer Round. Application To determine your suitability for this program, it is important that you complete an Application Form located on the UQ College website and return your completed application form through email or to the postal address on the application form. Payment Arrangements Upon acceptance into the program, a non- refundable registration fee of $200 is required to secure a place. The tuition fee less deposit is payable on or before Tuesday November 12 prior to commencement of the course unless other arrangements have been made. Materials Course materials are supplied. COLLEGE
It has been ten years since I left school in year 11 and I didn t believe that I would reach this level when I began the UQ College Tertiary Preparation Program. Through the encouragement of my UQ College teachers I am now achieving my goals. Upon completing my TPP I enrolled in the Associate Degree in Business, which I completed in 2013. I am now studying at The University of Queensland at St Lucia, working towards finishing my Bachelor Degree in Business Management. My advice to mature aged students is that commitment matters. The harder you work, and if you always keep asking questions from your teachers, the easier it will be for you to achieve your goal. I m proof of that. QLD194MTH01A Apply Mathematical Concepts to Solve Problems - $1,210 This intensive course is designed to meet the Mathematics B pre-requisite standards accepted by The University of Queensland. The course builds on an existing experience with Mathematics B concepts particularly in Year 11 and Year12 (and/or extensive experience applying these principles in the workplace). Participants will be provided with a range of theory and practice sessions and importantly a daily session of individual practice where they can target particular areas they need to build. QLD204BIOL01A Investigate Biological Science Problems - $1,375 This intensive course is designed to meet the Biology pre-requisite standards accepted by The University of Queensland. The course builds on an existing experience with Biology or related studies particularly in Year 11 and Year 12 (and/or extensive experience applying these principles in everyday life or workplace). Participants will also build their knowledge base through discussion, research and evaluation of the strengths and limitations of biological work. QLD204CHE01A Investigate Chemical Science Problems - $1,375 This intensive course is designed to meet the Chemistry pre-requisite standards accepted by The University of Queensland. The course builds on an existing experience with Chemistry or related studies particularly in Year 11 and Year 12 (and/or extensive experience applying these principles in everyday life or workplace). Participants will also build their knowledge base through discussion, research and evaluation of the strengths and limitations of chemical work. Eligible students studying the Associate Degree in Business may apply for HECS-HELP which is an Australian Government loan scheme that enables eligible students in a Commonwealth supported place to defer payment of their student contribution amounts until their income reaches the repayment threshold for compulsory repayment.
