Robert, Gary, Ron, Norm, & John Executive Report An Executive meeting was held on June 5 2006. Agenda: - Hat presentation George by Margita for 20 th Anniversary - BBQ Preparations - Elections The 20 th Anniversary hat which is gray with a purple peek was presented at last month s clinic by George Margita conveying the MVAR logo stitched on it. That evening it was accepted by the membership who were present and the cost would be $12.00 taxes in. The hat then was presented at the Executive meeting and was accepted for sale to any members who wish to purchase one. Ron Legge the Hat Committee Chair appointed by Robert Browning will be collecting the money ($12.00) for the hats which have to be PRE-PAID in advance. The actual order will be placed at the end of September. A sign-up sheet is in Ron Legge possession. The annual BBQ is a thank you to you the members for another successful season. We hope you are enjoying all those hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad and hopefully a CAKE. Elections usually take place at this BBQ event and it hoped that we can achieve success this year by having new individuals accept a position on the Executive for the 2006-2007 season. We require TWO individuals for our PROGRAMS and another individual for the SECRETARY. As mentioned may times before FRESH IDEAS will make things interesting to our club membership. Norman Card Treasurer Report If you know of anyone who would like to join our club, please have them contact myself or anyone else on the Executive team. The membership fee is only $10.00 unless otherwise specified. You re Treasurer Norman Card John Morin Editors Report Well as your editor trying to get some response out of the membership with a small Your Final Say questions to make things interesting in this newsletter, I am extremely disappointed. Out of 42 members I received only 5 replies which I will share. As we continue forward with our MVAR CLUB founded in 1987, we will be having our 20 th Anniversary year beginning in September. I wonder just how many members are committed to the success of this club, if nobody will accept an Executive position. This season coming we will require a Secretary and two people for Programming. Last year your Chairman begged, pleaded for program people and NOBODY nodded a yes. I think we of the Page 3 of 7

Executive team has pulled together adequate program for all to enjoy. I would like to give special THANKS if I hadn t already to our Secretary Gary Gillis last year for his courage to accept my nomination. Because of personal reasons, he is unable to continue in this position. Gary was new and he participated in the clubs well being. The hardest position on this Executive is my job as the Editor to this Newsletter. I do get help from individual throughout the year and again I cannot thank those individuals enough. CLUB Report with that task behind them, there is new talk floating around that they may begin construction this year on an ice house that s been discussed and proposed for many years ago. The ice house was always planned for Almonte yard many years ago when OMR reefers began hauling local fruits and vegetables out of the region and bringing imported produce in from the U.S.. I believe the ice house was intended to be some sort of co-operative deal where it would serve both the OMR and community needs. It will be interesting to see what the September news letter will have to report on this issue. In the mean time, from all of us here at the OMR, we wish you a safe and enjoyable summer and we look forward to sharing summer stories and experiences in September. I guess we should all be proud of this club for achieving 20 years of model railroading. Come and get on board. Reports about our members whether it is a layout activity, special news about someone PRINT IT HERE!!! TALES FROM THE OMR June 2006 Criminy! It s June already and there is still no solution to that mysterious Alco out there and it hasn t even been boarded or moved yet. Well, we ll just have to wait I guess, but in the mean time I can report that the cable material for the hoist houses of the new coaling towers at Midland and Almonte were delivered on May 31 and promptly installed so that the B&B gang can proudly say both were in service by late the same day! Hurrah! Well, like the proverbial snow ball rolling down hill and gathering and building as it goes, so it seems with construction projects around the OMR. It s been years until B&B finally got around to building those coaling towers and now E N J O Y T H E M Page 4 of 7

Would you like to POST a photo for the membership to enjoy? All photos will be returned after submission. POSTINGS THIS MONTH A railfan friend of mine Brendan Frisina of Deep River Ontario recently went to a place called Newtonville down near Cobourg. This spot is excellent because there is an old wooden trestle going over the Canadian National Railway which is double track and about 50 feet is the Canadian Pacific Railway which is single track. On the CN Rail a signal indication sign is visible which is great to know when the trains are coming and which track they are on. Brendan was nice enough to share his fantastic photos for you the members to enjoy. These are perhaps better than stationary ones in a station setting. Wisconsin Central in the last photo is part of the Canadian National system. Notice in this last photo, the CPR tracks on the horizon. All the photos presented here are done by Brendan Frisina and posted with his permission. Thanks Brendan At last months meeting I received a box of slides taken by Mr. B.F. Curry of Ottawa. Attached is one of the old classics from those slides. Page 5 of 7

More of these classics will be posted starting in September that is if I do not forget after the long summer months. I obtained a link to a website of Ric Hamilton from Summerville Nova Scotia. On it he had some streamers which he wanted to have identified. Attached are some of those steamers. He perhaps wants the builder and the year and classification. CNR 2382 Prairie Dog On June 12 & 13 2006 the OVR which runs through Carleton Place had an SPECIAL train movement. Executive members from Rail America who is leasing the tracks from Canadian Pacific and Canadian National Railway made a trip from North Bay to Smiths Falls. Rumor has it that Canadian National might be running their trains from Caproel to Smiths Falls in the near future. This is not confirmed as yet but this could be the reason for the special trip. Here are a few photos taken by my friend Brendan Frisina. CNR 6003 CNR 3322 Page 6 of 7

If you have an article of interest which you would like to share with the group, just contact the Editor of this Newsletter. A hand written input will be accepted although a WORD Document would be easier. Any photos used will be returned after posting of article. If you are missing any issues of the Rail Link Newsletter PLEASE contact Mr. Ron Legge. We would prefer that you be responsible and pick your copy up as MAIL is extremely expensive.
