Academic Excellence Our Summer Programmes Academic Excellence We understand that like most of our students you study English every week in your own school and our years of experience have helped us to create courses that allow you to build on your language learning experience, providing opportunities to develop your confidence in an English-speaking environment. Our teachers follow the Communicative and Task Based Learning methods of teaching we believe that you learn best by doing! Building Basic Skills English Through Experience The Experience English Young Learner Programme provides a full daily schedule for all students, encouraging you to speak English throughout the day. You will participate in English language classes for 15 hours a week (21 for our Intensive Experience programme). Each lesson hour is the full 60 minutes. When you are not studying, you will go on visits to local towns and attractions or enjoy sports, arts and crafts at the centre. After dinner you will join a variety of evening activities from orienteering to karaoke. We know that most of you will arrive on the centre s standard arrival day, but our programme is designed to allow you to join the course at any stage of the week (please note, this may lead to an altered programme in some centres and we will not always be able to replace lessons or excursions missed on the day of travel). All of our lessons focus on developing your communication skills; especially speaking and listening. Reading and writing are also an integral part of the course. We appreciate that different students may have different needs and adapt our lesson materials to both build on your strengths and develop your weaker areas. Cultural Learning & Understanding Where possible, you will be placed in mixed-nationality classes and you are encouraged to communicate in English at all times both in class, and outside the classroom. By doing this you build both self-awareness and understanding of other cultures through taking part in lessons with different nationalities. In addition to our teaching materials, our teachers use authentic materials from popular British media sources and our staff use every activity and excursion as a learning opportunity! Part of every week will be spent completing project work based around a specific task this might be to develop a new product, or write a new TV show, for example. We also ask you to take part in various English language activities when on local visits or excursions. All excursions are guided in English. Testing You will be tested on arrival, and then organised into classes. At the end of the course, you will be presented with a certificate and report, which uses the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) to highlight your progress. You will be prepared for the Trinity examination in your classes and you will be able to take the Trinity exam during your stay, if you wish. Accreditation Our summer vacation language courses are accredited by the British Council our most recent inspection was in 2012. We are also members of Young Learners English UK and have a representative on their committee. Educational Value Teaching staff all have TEFL or equivalent qualifications. Many of them return to work with us year after year Programmes designed to include important aspects of the local region Carefully planned evening activities, always designed with a learning objective in mind Excursion programmes designed to incorporate the best of UK history and culture What to expect from our courses Seven-day Programmes Seven day programmes are run at all Young Learner Centres providing a full week-long programme and daily supervision from Experience English staff.
