Rev. Bruce Schoup, M-Div Rev. Bruce Schoup Campus Minister Office: SC203 Tel. ext.: 312 Bruce.Schoup@haigazian.edu.lb Rev. Bruce has spent 25 plus years serving as a minister, mostly with churches in the USA. While he served long term at several locations, most of his ministry has been specializing in short term ministries with intentional focus. Ministry has seen him serving as a Reverend with churches in Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Massachusetts, New York, and St. Louis. He has served in a Children s Home, spent a year teaching in at the Evangelical Presbyterian Seminary in Ghana. He joined Haigazian in September of 2012. For Rev. Bruce, coming to Haigazian University is about returning to one s roots. While he is German/American, his family served in the Middle East (Iraq, Syria, and Turkey) for a number of years. He was born in Antep, Turkey and was baptized/learned to walk in Aleppo, Syria. It felt natural for him to return to this part of the world to serve. A large part of his childhood was spent in the Near East, although in a region that did not use either Armenian or Arabic. His home religious affiliation is with the United Church of Christ, USA. In Lebanon he is affiliated with the Union of the Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East (UAECNE). He claims both the International Community Church (ICC) and Central Armenian Evangelical Church as his Beirut congregations. TEACHING/HAIGAZIAN INTERESTS There are three primary areas of responsibility for Reverend Bruce 1. As Campus Minister he is responsible for working with Haigazian Spiritual Life which is Christian in orientation. Related with this is weekly chapel worship, study groups, book reviews, meeting with students, religiously oriented field trips, religiously oriented retreats, and other activities that arise out of interaction with Spiritual Life participants 2. Each semester he teaches one class, usually on either the Old or New Testaments. He enjoys challenging students to see the Bible in a new way. 3. As the chairperson for Financial Aid he enjoys meeting with and interviewing students for Financial Aid. Reverend Bruce enjoys attending campus activities and quietly supporting students, whether it be athletics, the arts, or in other activities. He enjoys finding ways to incorporate Lebanon/the Region into his work. Often this takes place through trips with Spiritual Life, Field trips with his class, or more extensive, as helping to plan a hike to the top of Musa Dagh/Musa Lehr in Turkey where his focus is to help make what could simply be a hike into something more than a hike, namely a spiritual experience pilgrimage. He enjoys blending his vocational calling as a Minister with that of being a part of the Haigazian family and community. M. Div., Andover Newton Theological School, USA B.A. in Business Administration/Economics, Ursinus College, USA
