Fenwick Mothers Club Minutes Tuesday, November 7, 2017 Lunch- Noon, Meeting 12:30pm 1. CALL TO ORDER A. 12:43pm President Tammy Mortell called the meeting to order 2. INTRODUCTION Tammy Mortell, Fenwick Mothers Club President, welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked them for being here. A. 2017-2018 Executive Board were introduced: Jodi Darrow President Elect Eileen Seyfarth Vice President Janet Warring Corresponding Secretary Laura Jachim Treasurer Toni Clancy Recording Secretary Father Woerter Mothers Club Moderator Tina Dillon, Past President, was in attendance and introduced 3. SPEAKERS A. Father Richard Peddicord President -Father thanked the Mothers Club for all they do. He enjoyed the Black and White shopping night in October. -He spoke of the Blackfriar s Guild Fall Play, "IS HE DEAD?. He indicated it was outstanding. Everyone did a great job including the group working on the sets. The sets were the back drop for the All Saints Day Mass! The sense of community that develops from this activity is over the top. -10/29 was the Mass of Remembrance where the Fenwick Community gives names of loved ones that they would like remembered. Over the past few years this list has grown to over 4 pages! Loved ones are ours to remember forever and it is a great responsibility and accountability to let Fenwick share in this job. This shows great spirituality. - This lead to Father talking about the adage: Live with the Benedictines Eat with the Franciscans Die with the Dominicans

SPEAKERS - continued -Father Peddicord indicated that every day before dinner, Dominicans read off those who died that day in the providence. They pray for eternal happiness! -Thank you for building community and Father is grateful for Mothers Club and he relies on the help of the Mothers. B. Mr. Richard Borsch-College Update - Ms. Laura Docherty could not be with us today as she was in Connecticut being an advisory for our kids. With the first quarter done and grades out, it is good timing that parent teacher conferences are coming up. There are 30 days left until finals. -Illinois State Scholars will be coming out in about 2 weeks. These students are in the top 10% of the state and usually include about 90 students in the senior class. PSAT will also becoming out before Christmas. - The first deadline for college application of 11/1 has come and gone with about 90% of the senior class having applied for colleges. January 1 is another deadline date for additional colleges. Now the students will be waiting until December 1 when some of the announcements are made. -A junior parent letter will be going out discussing the upcoming SAT and ACT testing information. C. Mr. Joe Ori Director of Admissions -He noted the shadow program has about 2 weeks left before the Thanksgiving break. He would like Mothers to help encourage any interested students in attending a shadow day. -New for the 2017 entrance exam at Fenwick is a pre-registration for the test. It starts on 11/18/17 and he would also like us to encourage parents to pre-register those students taking the exam. (No student will be turned away if they do not do this, but as this is a new process for Fenwick, he would like to encourage its use) -There is an admission coffee on 11/8 and would again like to pass the word to potential new parents to attend, get an overview and answer any Fenwick questions they may have. -Approximately 700 students shadow Fenwick each year and we need to be careful that we do not get too many as to disrupt regular classes. There is no rule on the age when grade school children can shadow. Fenwick is looking into the future of earlier shadowing given the entrance exam date change. D. Mr. Staunton Peck - Athletic Department -Thanked all parents for their support of the Athletic Department. About 75% of all students participate in a sport. Last year 4 teams had their best years ever: Football, Boys Basketball, Girls Tennis, Boys Track.
