INTRODUCTION UAW-Chrysler Technology Training The UAW-Chrysler Technology Training Center (TTC), which is a program of the UAW- Chrysler National Training Center (NTC), was created by the UAW-Chrysler Joint Activities Board (JAB) in an effort to further improve the skills of an already world-class workforce. In 1993, the UAW and Chrysler negotiated a joint commitment to New Technology training (Letters 125 and 181) for the UAW-represented Chrysler workforce. The 2003 National Agreement includes Letters 125 and 181 which demonstrate the commitment of both the UAW and Chrysler to provide ongoing training. This joint commitment ensures: A common understanding of the new and emerging technologies being introduced A mutual commitment to the implementation of new technical training Better acceptance of training by the UAW-represented workforce Increased productivity leading to globally competitive products, job security, and profitability A common direction Apprenticeship Another indicator of joint commitment to technical training is the formation of Local Technical Training Committees (LTTCs) at major manufacturing facilities. Established in 1996 through Letter 190, and updated in the 2003 National Agreement, LTTCs plan and coordinate local technical training and coordinate training activities between plants and the UAW-Chrysler Technology Training Center. ABOUT THIS CATALOG The TTC Course Catalog is published twice a year. The two-page TTC Schedule lists courses by name and gives the starting date of each session. Due to the continual improvement of training offered at the TTC, all information is subject to change. The most up-to-date versions of these documents can always be found on the TTC section of the NTC s Website located at www. uawdcx.com/training/ttc.cfm along with the latest course announcements. 1

SKILL CERTIFICATION Some courses may offer certification, which will be indicated, if available, in the Course Description section. Participation in certification is purely voluntary on the part of training participants. On the first day of class, the instructor will explain specific requirements and procedures needed to obtain certification. (PLEASE NOTE: Certification is NOT the same as earning college credit, which is explained in the next section.) COLLEGE CREDIT The Technology Training Center has made it possible for participants to earn transferable college credit for certain courses taken at the TTC. The American Council on Education s Credit Recommendation Service has evaluated the TTC s courses for compatibility with established college criteria. The amount of credit recommended by ACE varies from course to course. An eligible course is designated by the graduation cap symbol located in the top right corner of the course description. Courses being reviewed for ACE credit consideration are designated by the graduation cap symbol with a question mark. For specific course eligibility information, please refer to the TTC area of the NTC s Website. Credit Eligible Under Review More than 1,800 accredited degree-granting colleges and universities and higher education-related associations, organizations, and corporations have accepted ACE s credit recommendations. All recommendations are subject to each individual institution s overall policy and are based on the credit recommendations from the appropriate academic department. Once a college or university accepts the transfer of credit, that credit is applied toward the total number of credits needed for a particular degree. The transfer of college credit is purely voluntary. At the beginning of each course, participants choose whether or not to receive the recommended college credit. In order to receive college credit, a minimum attendance requirement must be met, a pre-test and a post-test must be taken, a required lab and/or exercise completed, and a certificate of satisfactory completion sent to the college or university. Course performance scores are strictly confidential and will only be made available to colleges or universities with the participant s written permission. 4
