Applicants should possess a mature personality and be able to work independently, and fulfill the following criteria (1) Chief Enumerator and (2) Assistant Chief Enumerator be in-service teachers of local secondary or primary schools; and have good knowledge of written Chinese and English and be fluent in Cantonese and English. (3) Checker be students of local full-time accredited degree programmes; and have good knowledge of written Chinese and English and be fluent in Cantonese and English; and attain Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language (or Grade E or above in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) before 2007) and Grade E or above in Mathematics in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent. (4) Enumerator and (5) Centre Assistant be Secondary 6 students or students of local full-time accredited degree/sub-degree programmes; and have good knowledge of written Chinese and English and be fluent in Cantonese and English; and attain Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language (or Grade E
or above in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) before 2007) and Grade E or above in Mathematics in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent. Priority will be given to applicants possessing fieldwork experience in the 2001 Population Census, 2006 Population By-census or household surveys conducted by the Census and Statistics Department (except for the post of Centre Assistant). Main Duties: (1) Chief Enumerator (i) To train Enumerators/Centre Assistants; and (ii) To head a division, supervise the progress and quality of the work of the division, and ensure proper completion of census fieldwork. (2) Assistant Chief Enumerator (i) To edit, code and check accuracy of completed questionnaires; and (ii) To assist Chief Enumerator in supervising Enumerators/Centre Assistants to complete or support the enumeration work. (3) Checker (i) To re-visit selected households to confirm accuracy of information collected by Enumerators; and (ii) To verify selected self-enumerated questionnaires through field visits. (4) Enumerator (i) To obtain census data through field visits; (ii) To verify census data and follow up on selected questionnaires through telephone interviews; and (iii) To handle telephone enquiries and appointment requests. (5) Centre Assistant (i) To prepare fieldwork documents; (ii) To operate computer systems to handle the returned questionnaires and support the fieldwork; (iii) To perform administrative and clerical duties at the field centre (including set-up and wrap-up) or in the 2011 Population Census Office; and (iv) To provide receipt and dispatch services between field centres and with the 2011 Population Census Office.

Selection and Training: [For teacher applicants] Short-listed applicants will be invited to attend a general training (8 or 12 hours) in late February to early March 2011 for Chief Enumerator/Assistant Chief Enumerator applicants, which covers a written test on census knowledge and operation at the end of the training. Those applicants who have better class performance and written test results will be offered appointment. There will also be a refresher training (4 to 8 hours) in late June to early July 2011 for these appointed applicants. On completion of the above training courses, applicants will receive a training allowance at an hourly rate of HK$34. Appointed applicants are required to serve as examiners in conducting selection interviews for student applicants tentatively scheduled for 2 April 2011. Applicants appointed as Chief Enumerators are required to conduct a general training (4 or 8 hours) and a refresher training (4 hours) for Enumerator applicants in late May to early June 2011 and early July 2011 respectively, or a general training (4 hours) for Centre Assistant applicants in early July 2011. Appointed applicants who have conducted selection interviews and/or training courses will be entitled to receive an assessment allowance and/or teaching allowance, both at an hourly rate of HK$135. Teacher applicants are advised to seek outside work permission from their serving schools/employers as required. [For student applicants] Selection interviews will be conducted separately for Checker/Enumerator posts and Centre Assistant posts. Based on the available vacancies and preference on different posts indicated by applicants, short-listed applicants will be invited to attend either one of the two selection interviews, both tentatively scheduled for 2 April 2011. Successful applicants will be offered appointment for one post with one employment
period. Both the selection interview results and the indicated availability of the applicants concerned will be taken into consideration when filling the available vacancies of different employment periods. Checker/Enumerator posts The selection interview for Checker/Enumerator posts will have an oral session and a 20-minute written test on census knowledge and operation. The contents of the interview are related to the nature of the posts concerned. The written test will have multiple choice questions in Chinese. Applicants who have better interview performance and written test results will be further selected and offered appointment as Checker or Enumerator. Appointed applicants are required to attend a general training (4 or 8 hours) and a refresher training (4 hours) on data collection/verification duties in late May to early June 2011 and mid-june to early July 2011 respectively. On completion of the training courses, applicants will receive a training allowance at an hourly rate of HK$34. Centre Assistant posts The selection interview for Centre Assistant posts will have an oral session and a 20-minute written test on census knowledge and operation. The contents of the interview are related to the nature of the posts concerned. The written test will have multiple choice questions in Chinese. Applicants who have better interview performance and written test results will be further selected and offered appointment as Centre Assistant. Appointed applicants are required to attend a general training (4 hours) on census operation and support to data collection work in mid-june to early July 2011. On completion of the training course, applicants will receive a training allowance at an hourly rate of HK$34. [For both teacher and student applicants] All training courses and selection interviews will be conducted on Saturdays, Sundays and/or public holidays. Short-listed applicants will normally receive a notification by post and e-mail within one to two months, depending on the posts applied, from the respective closing date for application. Those who do not receive the notification may assume that their applications are unsuccessful. During the training or census operation periods, the replacement of vacant posts arising from the withdrawal of individual Temporary Field Workers could be very difficult.
