Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs The Opportunity Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, a nationally recognized university that has established a remarkable regional reputation in higher education, is in a search for a Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. As a student-centered educational community with healthy enrollment, SIUE hopes to achieve greater recognition and academic prominence through innovative and interdisciplinary programs that empower individuals to achieve their full potential. SIUE seeks a Provost and Vice Chancellor who will provide strong, visionary leadership in all areas of the University. About the Position Reporting to the Chancellor, the Provost oversees academic strategic planning and evaluation, and administers a budget of more than $107 million in academic and support units, $42 million in externally sponsored projects, and more than $147 million in student aid. Directly reporting to the Provost are: Nine deans Associate provosts for institutional diversity and inclusion, program development, and research Assistant provost for academic innovation and effectiveness Director of institutional research Associate vice chancellors for enrollment management and information technology services Areas of responsibility include overseeing academic planning, new program development, assessment, educational outreach, faculty development, institutional research, honors program, instructional services, international educational partnerships, retention, and the undergraduate research program. The Provost also oversees academic outreach activities, including the SIUE East St. Louis Center and SIUE Charter High School. Within the University, the Provost is a highly visible representative of the institution s culture, promoting a spirit of cooperation and collaboration between academic and non-academic units. Responsibilities of the Provost Include Support the University s vision to attain national and global recognition and academic prominence through innovative and interdisciplinary programs Advise the Chancellor on academic matters, working collegially with faculty, deans, senior staff and others with a commitment to shared governance Provide leadership in the administration and development of high quality academic programs, and the delivery of an excellent educational experience Provide leadership in integrated enrollment management including recruitment and retention of highly qualified and diverse undergraduate and graduate students Expand the use of learning technology and online programming Expand institutional commitment and involvement in international education Oversee and maintain the academic integrity of the institution Develop, allocate and manage the academic budget Facilitate the institution s academic commitment to address and adapt to changes in higher education Serve as an integral and collaborative member of the Chancellor s Council, the University s senior leadership team Support research infrastructure to advance University scholarship Support the ongoing partnership with Student Affairs to promote student retention and success Promote the advancement of the University and support the deans in securing grants, contracts and private philanthropy Facilitate and coordinate academic initiatives with the Southern Illinois University (SIU) system and Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) Qualifications Include An earned doctorate or terminal degree and credentials to merit tenure as a professor in an academic discipline offered at the University Academic leadership and progressive administrative experience with a record of achievement in successive senior administrative positions above the Department Chair level Demonstrated commitment to shared governance A strong record of leadership, with demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize appropriately, and follow through to completion A strong record of success in building/managing academic programs and support services, experience in personnel decision-making, and demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies A strong record of success in resource management, especially within a climate of fiscal challenge A commitment to academic excellence, including quality teaching, research, and service Demonstrated integrity with excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Educational Benefits One of the most valued benefits in the SIUE compensation program is the substantial tuition benefit for University employees. Employees in status positions (50 percent appointment and over) are eligible for a waiver of all tuition and some fees, unless otherwise specified under a collective bargaining agreement. Status employees who have contributed seven years of service are eligible for a 50 percent waiver of tuition for their dependent children under the age of 25. This tuition waiver may be used at any public university in the State of Illinois.
