TEL History Concept envisioned by TENN-SHARE In 1999, the Tennessee Electronic Library was created by TN legislature TEL began as a collection of 18 databases with only one vendor and solely supported by federal funds Literature Resource Center was added to TEL in 2006, made possible by pledges from Tennessee Libraries. In 2007-08, TEL added 4 new products to its collections, which was made possible additional funding provided by the Tennessee General Assembly.
How is TEL Funded? Funding for TEL is provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)*, the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, and pledges from Tennessee Libraries. TEL is administered by the Tennessee State Library & Archives, a division of the TN Department of State, Tre Hargett, Secretary of State. * IMLS is a federal grant-making agency dedicated to creating and sustaining a nation of learners by helping libraries and museums serve their communities Photo by Homer Township Public Library.
