IFM Infrastructure The Institute s main campus is located in the heart of Dar-es-Salaam surrounded with major corporate offices, making it the most convenient place for the working executives and officers for their academic pursuit. The sprawling campus has well furnished class-rooms, hostels, seven modern computer laboratories equipped with 200 computers on a Local Area Network, a modern Audio-Visual Aid Unit besides a well equipped Library with 35,000 volumes of books and a range of journals, government and World Bank publications. Hostel Facilities There is a hostel which accommodates about 700 students. The hostel is within the Institute s campus which is located conveniently in downtown Dar-es-Salaam.
About MBA International Business The Institute of Finance Management (IFM), Tanzania proudly announces launching of the tenth batch of MBA (International Business) jointly with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi, India. IIFT, a premier institute of Indian sub-continent, has signed an MOU with IFM in 2000 to assist Tanzania in filling the gap of trained personnel for the external sector and to enable the country to emerge competitive in international markets. The applications for the MBA (International Business) programme has been increasing year by year. The first batch was enrolled in 2001 with a total of 18 students has now increased to 60. In 2008, a new MOU was signed for a period of another 5 years under which IIFT will assist IFM to build its institutional capacity in International Business and continue to offer high quality education in all aspects of International Business. Objectives The MBA (IB) aims at imparting professional education and training in modern management techniques for handling international business operations in a highly dynamic and competitive environment. The specific objectives of the Programme are: To familiarize the participants on the basic fundamental concepts of management. To expose the participants to the challenges in the emerging competitive business environment, in an increasingly globalized world and to appreciate the trade related policy issues. To relate the management concepts to the business situations and help the participants to develop analytical and decision skills so as to evolve effective national and international business strategy. Prepare the participants for professional career and senior management responsibilities in strategic management of International Business. Programme Faculty For about 50% of the courses, faculty is drawn from IIFT, who visit IFM for a period of about 2 weeks to teach a course. For the remaining courses faculty is drawn from IFM, which has about 110 full-time well qualified and experienced professionals.

It is compulsory for the students to visit the Fair and submit a report. Corporate & Port Visit: A visit to a port town is arranged for the students to give them an opportunity to acquire first-hand knowledge about the working of Port Administration, customs and VAT collectors (TRA), shipping and other facilitating agencies. In addition, interactive sessions with the members of Chamber of commerce and stock exchange are also arranged during the visit. In 2009, participants had visited Netherlands for such an interaction. Course Credits: Each course is of 3 credits, which is equivalent to 30 teaching hours. Electives: Each participant is required to opt for 3 elective courses during Trimester-06. Dissertation Project: During Trimester-06, students would be undertaking a detailed Research Project (carrying 3 credits) on the subjects assigned to them. The schedule for research project will be indicated at the beginning of Trimeste-05. Viva Voce: Comprehensive Viva-01 and 02 will be conducted in Trimester-04 and Trimester- 06 respectively.
admission process ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS 1. First Degree in any field or Advanced Diploma (3 years duration) in any field. 2. Three years of work experience after the First Degree or Advanced Diploma is essential. PROGRAMME FEE (for the full Programme) For Tanzanians: US$ 6000/- payable in four half-yearly installments. For Foreign Students: US$ 8500/- payable in four half-yearly installments HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION CHARGES (PER YEAR) For Tanzanians: Tsh 500,000/- and Tsh 30,000/- for key deposit For Foreign Students: US$ 500/- PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS Number of Seats: 70 (out of which 10 seats for Non-Residents of Tanzania). Date of Commencement: October 1, 2012 Duration: 2 years. The programme will be offered over 6 trimesters spread over two years. In each trimester about 6-9 courses will be offered. Timings of the Classes: Monday through Saturday (Evening). If required, classes may be scheduled on Sundays also. Exchange Student: Under the MOU, two students from 5th trimester can study at IIFT Delhi, without any extra tuition fee. Degree & Graduation: The Masters in Business Administration (International Business) degree will be awarded by the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi (India) and students will have the option of Graduating at IIFT, New Delhi (India) in March 2015 or at the IFM, Dar-es- Salaam in March 2015. IFM Infrastructure Library The library started in 1972 by the establishment of the Institute, serving many users at a time. It is located on the second and third floors of Block A. It has six sections namely Acquisitions Cataloguing Lending Special Reserve Periodicals Government Publications and World Bank Publications. It is one of the premium libraries in the nation. Most of the titles in the area of Trade and International Business is available. Institute is striving hard to continually add new titles to the library. Directorate Of Computer Services The Directorate of Computer Services (DCS) is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining Information and Communication (ICT) service at IFM. Currently, the directorate provides and supports various services including: Modern computers, printing, and photocopying facilities Free access to the internet through wired and wireless connectivity Access to various generic and specific software packages Development and management of IFM information systems Development and management of the IFM digital service portal (website) Management and development of IFM communication infrastructure including LAN and telephone system Management of data storage facilities and backup services Troubleshooting and repairing of ICT equipment User support and help desk services The directorate also organizes and conducts general and tailor-made training in various specialties. Typical example include planning, development and managing computer networks, identifying and developing electronic government services (e-government), utilization of computer applications, programming, etc. the DCS is located at 4th floor of the block A building at the Institute.
