Scholarships and Other Financial Resources Broadcasting Scholarships Available: Broadcasting Banquet Scholarship This scholarship was created to recognize an outstanding broadcasting & journalism student(s) at the annual Broadcasting & Journalism banquet. The recipient(s) will be chosen by the Broadcasting & Journalism scholarship selection committee. The amount of the award will be determined by the committee. The Broadcasting Faculty and Alumni Scholarship This scholarship was created by the Fall 2012 Broadcasting faculty in response to 1) the need to find monies to recruit incoming freshmen to the department, and 2) the Faculty/Staff campaign to support the university Capital Campaign. This scholarship will be funded initially with contributions from the Broadcasting faculty and staff. Subsequent contributions to keep the scholarship viable will be made by the Broadcasting faculty and staff as well as Broadcasting Alumni and other donors. This scholarship will be used to recruit incoming freshmen to the Broadcasting major. This award is intended as a $1,000 award payable in equal halves in each semester ($500 in the fall and $500 in the spring). Awards will be applied to the recipient s WIU account. The spring award can be terminated in the event the student changes his/her major. Broadcasting Faculty will review the applicants and decide on one student recipient based on the strength of the application. Must be a declared Broadcasting major Must be an incoming freshmen Must have WIU housing contract and select the Broadcasting Living Learning Community floor as his/her housing option Must include his/her SAT/ACT score and high school grade point average in the application Essay on what they feel they can contribute to the broadcasting field Submit documentation of current experience in broadcasting (audio, video, scripting) on CD or DVD Contact the.

Illinois Broadcasters Association Scholarship This scholarship was created in January, 2001 by the Illinois Broadcasters Association to recognize the top student in the department with emphasis on a rising senior majoring in Broadcasting. The amount of the award is $750.00 payable in equal disbursements ($375 in the fall and $375 in the spring). The recipient of this award will be selected in the spring. Must be a rising senior student pursuing a B.A. degree in Broadcasting. Must have a minimum of 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.5 in Broadcasting. Must have completed a minimum of 90 semester hours at the end of Spring semester. Recipient should demonstrate talent, commitment, excellence and professional ambition in broadcasting. The scholarship shall be awarded to the top student (as determined by the broadcasting faculty). If more than one student is considered qualified, preference shall be given to a student with demonstrated participation in broadcasting activities. Must attend the IBA-U Conference in the fall. Journalism Scholarships Available: Dameris Bagwell Journalism Scholarship TERMS: $250 to be applied to the student s university account. Award can be given in the fall semester or can be split ½ fall and ½ spring. African American Student At least sophomore class level during the semester of award. Minimum 3.0 GPA in major or 2.75 overall GPA Journalism major or minor Demonstrate activity and current participation in at least one professional student organization. Contact the.

Bill Bradshaw Memorial Scholarship Fund TERMS: This scholarship is valued at $1000.00 and will be awarded in two payments: fall and spring semester. Must be a journalism/print media major Junior standing with at least 60 semester hours completed at WIU. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Preference will be given to applicants who resident in the circulation area of either the Quincy Herald Whig or the LaHarpe Quill which includes the counties of Adams, Pike, Hancock, Schuyler, McDonough, Brown, Calhoun, Henderson, and Warren in Illinois and Lee and Des Moines in Iowa and Marion, Clark, Lewis, Pike, Schuyler, Morgan, Ralls, Adair, Macon, Scotland, Monroe, Shelby, and Know in Missouri. If no applicants are available from the preferred counties, other Illinois residents who meet the other criteria may be awarded the scholarship. Applications are available in the Broadcasting/Journalism Office. The applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation from Print Media/Journalism faculty.
