2015 Art Slam Exhibit: Art Slam at the State Capital is an exhibition of student art designed to bring an awareness of arts education to the Governor and Legislature. New England Regional Art Exhibition 2014 The College Board s New England Regional Office will be displaying two-dimensional artwork from students located in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. This display is in tribute to their colleague Paulo Zina, who initiated this project before passing away in 2008. The art will first be displayed at the 2015 New England Regional Forum February 3 rd -4 th, a two-day event that attracts New England educators from both the K-12 and higher education communities. The art will then be displayed in the New England Regional Office of the College Board through December 2015. Submission Guidelines for New England Regional Art Exhibition: 1. This opportunity is open to students who submitted their portfolios to the AP Program in May of 2014 or students currently enrolled in AP Studio Art. The contest is sponsored by The Ladies Auxiliary VFW. The organization was established in 1914 to support war veterans and their families. The organization also volunteers at veteran hospitals, provides fellowships for cancer research, and gives awards and scholarships that promote patriotism. Today there are about 5,000 Auxiliaries throughout the United States, Germany, Guam and Panama and 550,000 members throughout the United States, Germany, Guam and Panama. Jessica Young, 12 (Honors) Connecticut Association of Schools recipient: Melissa Butler- 12-AP art The Connecticut High School Fine Arts Awards annually honors two outstanding seniors from each of the member schools in the state who excel in the performing or visual arts. They must possess the qualities of scholarship and leadership. Excelling in the performing or visual arts is of primary importance in the selection. Scholarship and Leadership are also supporting criteria. (Photo unavailable) Rotary Art Student of the Month: Katie Christensen-12-AP Art Katie Christensen was selected as The Niantic Rotary Student of the Month for March. During her four years at East Lyme High School, she has taken drawing, ceramics, honors and advanced placement art classes. She has been recognized by the Connecticut Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards and has worked in the Shoreline Arts Alliance Awards Show. Christensen also volunteers as an art counselor for East Lyme Parks and Recreation.
Shoreline Arts Alliance: Katie Christensen is the Special Recognition Awardee in Visual Arts. She will be receiving a professional mentor in the field of Visual Arts. This is a very competitive program and we are excited to present this year s winners in the categories of Creative Writing, Dance, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Theatre and Visual Arts. Mystic Arts Center region s biggest annual youth art exhibition. Young At Art showcases creative work from hundreds of regional students ages eighteen and younger in Mystic Arts Center s galleries. Original artwork is in a variety of media from oil, photography, and sculpture to mixed media. Art from all over New London County and Rhode Island with many group projects from area schools is displayed. The exhibition is part of Mystic Arts Center s commitment to fostering creativity in the community. Young At Art brings families together in a community space and encourages the use of art to advance learning in our region s schools.
