NIEZBĘDNIK E-SGH Niezbędnik e-sgh (www.e-sgh.pl/niezbednik/) is a part of the e-learning platform www.e-sgh.pl which allows SGH lecturers to self-manage didactic materials. The application supports lecturers in delivering classes as well as enables them to communicate with their students. By using the Niezbędnik e-sgh some of SGH lecturers create webpages with didactic materials to their selected, traditional classes. How to get the access to teaching materials in Niezbędnik e-sgh? Please note, that not every lecturer use the Niezbędnik e-sgh, so you can t get the access to all your courses automatically. You should ask your teacher if she/he uses Niezbędnik. Lecturers can create a several course webpages to the same subject, but for different classes. To receive the access to the appropriate course website for your class, please use the link provided by the teacher in the classroom. If the access to the subject require logging, the lecturer will give you a link to the registration form, which you must fill in once, to be registered for the course: eg. http://www.e-sgh.pl/last_name_of_the_teacher/name_of_the_course/card 5
During filling in the registration form to the course webpage in Niezbędnik, SGH student should use the same login as to the e-learning platform www.e-sgh.pl (for the account integrated with the SGH system, this is the same username - as to Virtual Dean s Office or e-mail account). You have to create a new account only if you do not have one in e-sgh.pl system yet. In this situation, the user should fill in the bottom part of the registration form by entering your email address (e-mail address in @sgh.waw.pl domain is recommended). As a next step you should fill in the registration form with your name and surname and create a password. If an access to the subject does not require logging, the lecturer will give you a link which should be used (in any internet browser) to download the content. eg. http://www.e-sgh.pl/ last_name_of_the_teacher/name_of_the_course Such kind of course page can be added by you to the list of courses in your account (the "follow this course page" button). 6
How to use the Niezbędnik e-sgh? After logging into the Niezbędnik e-sgh, student sees the list of course pages to which he / she registered. Click on the name of the course to visit the course page devoted to it. At the course page the lecturer may make available the teaching materials and publish the notices (announcements) for students. 7
Menu on the toolbar Depending on the options that the lecturer has launched at a course webpage, the chosen tools will appear in a toolbar. Group The group is a place where you can read the lecturer's biography, find out who else is attending the lecture, and post information about yourself. Calendar Calendar helps in activities and time management as well as in sending reminders at an e-mail address provided during registration in the e-sgh.pl system. 8
A user can add an important event to the calendar (for example a deadline for certain task). If the option "send a reminder" has been marked, 1 day before each planned event, the user will get an e-mail with the content of the event. A lecturer can create a reminder for students - in such case an e-mail will be sent also to all the students enrolled for a particular course. The notices from the calendar are also displayed at the course webpage. Forum and Chat The forum and Chat facilitate an online discussion on the topics related to the course program. The lecturer creates thematically rooms at the forum and can also define the period of time when posts may be published - the dates are visible under the name of the room. When writing a post you can use WYSIWYG editor for highlightening selected fragments as well as attach a file. Chat - is the only tool in Niezbędnik which requires a synchronic meeting at a fixed time. The discussion is supposed to be related to the course content and to constitute one of the elements of conducting virtual classes. It can also have a form of virtual consultation. 9
Assessment Folder Assessment Folder is a tool for keeping record of students' grades. A lecturer has an access to the list of the students registered for the course and can give them grades in any category. What is more, the lecturer can also add notes about the activity of the course participants. Every student enrolled for the course can see their records in the assessment folder. Mailbox The module of Mail is directly linked to the Assessment Folder and is activated and turned off accordingly. The Mail allows exchanging messages with the students enrolled for a particular course. In distinction to the Forum, Chat or Notice Board, the messages sent by the Mail are visible only for the relevant user. The Mail system does not send the e-mails to students, the participant of the course can read messages only after logging into the course. Both, the students and the lecturers, can add attachments to the messages. 10
Tests Tests - are the tool that can be used by a lecturer to create tests and make them available at the course webpage. Test can be made available at a restricted time and can have a defined limited time in which their questions can be answered. The results are saved in a report and sent automatically to the Assessment Folder at the moment when the test is being completed by the student. Clicking on the "start the test" button means solving it. The test can be taken only once. If you close your browser or open another course webpage in your Niezbędnik, a blank test will be saved.
