Eastern Kentucky University College of Health Sciences: Revised Strategic Plan for 2020 Department of Recreation & Park Administration Given the updates to the EKU 2020 Strategic Plan, the CHS Planning Committee made modifications to the Mission and Vision of the College. They were affirmed by the Committee and are as follows: Mission: The mission of the Department of Recreation and Park Administration is to prepare outstanding recreation, parks and tourism industry professionals and leaders who contribute to the success and vitality of their communities, the Commonwealth, and the world. Vision: The Department of Recreation and Park Administration will be to continuously strive for excellence resulting in being the best in Kentucky. Values: 1. Sense of Community (Direct linkage w/ EKU Strategic Plan) Department Beliefs: Creating a supportive and unified environment that provides students and faculty with a sense of family and community. Professional Beliefs: Creating a sense of place and community; connecting people and fostering relationships and friendships; enhancing cultural unity; fostering human development; supporting economic development; strengthening safety and security. 2. Stewardship of Place (Direct linkage w/ EKU Strategic Plan) Department Beliefs: Supporting faculty and student initiatives to increase place awareness and natural resource awareness, sustainability and preservation; maintaining a department that promotes interactions, relationships, and fosters place attachment. Professional Beliefs: Preserving & protecting open space, riparian habitat, rivers, streams, lakes, and the coast; recycling programs and using recycled products; organizing and conducting cleanup efforts of rivers, streams and park areas; providing environmental education and nature interpretive programs. 3. Promote Health and Wellness (Direct linkage w/ CHS Strategic Plan) Department Beliefs: Influencing quality of life of stakeholders; supporting health and wellness initiatives. Professional Beliefs: Play as a natural conduit to enhance health and well-being; promoting healthy lifestyles and physical activity; lifelong learning and personal growth/development via hobbies and other leisure time pursuits; creative expression; work-life balance. 4. Department Beliefs: Mutual respect, inclusion, recognition and education regarding the importance of diversity. Professional Beliefs: Importance of all individuals and belief in underserved populations such as individuals with disabilities, at-risk youth, elderly, minority groups, single parents, and the economically depressed.
