CONNECTING STUDENTS TO MANUFACTURING CAREERS Tuesday, November 1, 2016 Stacey R. Gray-Feaster, M.Ed., GCDFI Fairfield County School District Winnsboro, South Carolina
CONNECTING STUDENTS TO MANUFACTURING CAREERS America must provide students with a strong education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to prepare them to succeed in the global economy. Scientists and engineers create many of the innovations that drive our Nation s competitiveness, yet many American students are unprepared in math and science, particularly students from underrepresented groups, and the nation s STEM workforce needs are not being met. U.S. Department of Education
U.S. Department of Education
Only 16 percent of American high school seniors are proficient in mathematics and interested in a STEM career. The U.S. is ranked 25 th in mathematics and 17 th in science among industrialized nations. U.S. Department of Education
The Fairfield County School District with support from the Midlands business community, industry and education sectors has created a number of collaborative STEM initiatives which have made a significant impact in the lives of students. The future is bright for South Carolina students who pursue STEM careers thanks to their contributions.
