As families would appreciate, the rapid growth of our intake area and the opening of the new Aveley North Primary School (planning name) for Kindergarten and Pre-primary students next year will have a significant effect on our estimated numbers. Members of the school community are asked to advise us, as soon as practical, of students leaving or joining our school. If you are aware of new families moving into our area, please encourage them to enrol their children as soon as possible. CLASS PLACEMENTS 2018 Staff will be working on student placement for 2018 classes toward the end of this term. If, for educational reasons, you have a request for the placement of your child in a specific class next year, please email the school on aveleyps@educations.wa.edu.au. You should note that mentioning something to teachers in conversation is not a request. An email or written request by the due date will be considered. Teacher placements are not finalized until the end of the school year. Requests need to be received by 3pm, Friday 10 November 2017. PROCEDURES FOR FORMING CLASSES In an attempt to equitably distribute students, staff consider the following criteria. The identified criteria for placement include: Ability level. Leadership skills. Behaviour. Ability to work independently. Special needs. Staff are asked to, where possible (keeping in mind the structure and size of our school): Separate incompatible students. Form equal numbers of girls and boys (depends on ratios, etc). Have a balance (abilities, independent workers etc) of students in each room. Draft lists are then presented to Administration for final checks.

SCHOOL DATA PRESENTATION - INVITATION Further to students NAPLAN results being sent home last term, a summary of the school s data will be presented to the School Board at our next meeting to be held at 3.15pm on Monday, 20 November 2017. This will be an open meeting and we encourage parents to take the opportunity to join us. GIFTED & TALENTED SECONDARY PROGRAMS Students with exceptional ability and creative talent have the opportunity to apply for special placement alongside like-minded peers in one of 18 public secondary school specialist programs. These include academic, arts and languages. If your child is going into Year 6 in 2018, applications are now open for entry into Year 7 in 2019. Families are able to apply for these programs no matter where you live in Western Australia. More information is available at education.wa.edu.au/giftedandtalented. RE: SECONDARY SCHOOLING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2018 - NOW OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS The Department of Education coordinates a range of student scholarships, grants and prizes to meet some of the costs of secondary schooling. Semester Two Student Reports will be emailed home Tuesday 12 December and families are requested to ensure we have your current email address. MUSIC COUNT US IN Next Thursday, 2nd November is the amazing national simultaneous singing event, Music Count Us In. We have been learning this year's song, 'Shine Together' and will gather all P-6 children in the undercover area at 10.30am to sing as one whole school, at the same time as over half a million other children around Australia! You can check the school Facebook page for links to the song for children to rehearse at home, or head to YouTube and search for 'Shine Together Music Count Us In 2017'. CHRISTMAS CAROLS Can you believe it is time to talk Christmas Carols choir again? I am excited to announce the school s participation again in this year s Ellenbrook Christmas Pageant Stage Program on Saturday, 9 December. This will be an excellent showcase for our school in front of a huge crowd, which is expected to have at least 6000 attendees, based on previous years. We have a strong history of involvement in community events, so I can't wait to see our wonderful choir in action yet again. This will be our only Christmas performance in 2017. Rehearsals for interested Year 2-6 children will commence on Thursday, 2 November at 8am in the Music Room. This will continue each Thursday morning right up until the event. Our exact stage time is not determined as of yet, but will be somewhere between 12pm-5pm, so please ensure you are available on this date. It is an expectation that children attend all rehearsals, which enables them to be as prepared as possible in the numerous songs we will be performing. Please email me if you have any further questions at christopher.spencer@education.wa.edu.au Chris Spencer Music Specialist

TRAVELLING TO BALI? Are you planning on visiting Bali soon or do you know anyone who is? AdoptASchool has lots of books which have been donated for our sister schools. If you know of anyone who could take a few kilos of books to Bali, please contact Susan on 0402 914 521 or cromb@tpg.com.au The books will be collected from your accommodation by one of our volunteer coordinators. Many thanks. Ibu Yang Indonesian Specialist AVELEY PRIMARY SCHOOL PARENTS AND CITIZENS ASSOCIATION Thank you to everyone that donated baked goods for today s sports carnival and those who volunteered their time, it was very much appreciated. A special thank you to Ellenbrook United Football club for their kind donation of some sausages, and to Jessica Shaw for her donation towards the sports carnival. Our next fundraiser is the Halloween disco on Friday, 3 November. We are in need of some volunteers to help decorate the undercover area if you can spare a couple of hours on the afternoon please get in touch. All children that have purchased a ticket will receive a wristband from their teacher next week. Please can you ensure that an emergency contact number is written clearly on the band ready for quick entry into the disco. On the evening there will be juice boxes, water, lolly bags, ice lollies and slushie drinks for sale. School banking takes place on a Tuesday morning in the undercover area from 8.25-8.45am. It s a fantastic way to encourage children to save. There is now an app that they can check their progress and some lovely prizes too. The Entertainment book fundraiser has now finished thank you to all in the school and community who purchased a book. Our next meeting is 20 November at 6.00pm in the staffroom and all are welcome to attend. Thank you Your Aveley P&C Committee
