Integrated Domestic Violence Court Status Update January 2010 Statewide Summary Statewide there are 46 Integrated Domestic Violence (IDV) Courts. In 2009, there were 3,258 civil/supreme court cases that were heard in IDV Courts. Of those, 2,640 were contested matrimonial cases and 461 were uncontested matrimonial cases, with 157 cases categorized as other. The IDV Courts handled a total of 64,033 family cases and a total of 27,417 criminal Among the family cases, IDV Courts heard 3,697 abuse and neglect related cases (including adoption and foster care placement); 36,097 custody and visitation related cases; 18,519 family court order of protection cases; 4,836 support related cases; and 884 other matters. IDV Courts handled 27,417 criminal These cases included 12,368 domestic violence violations, 22,472 misdemeanor domestic violence charges, 739 felony domestic violence charges, 237 misdemeanor sexual assault cases, 359 felony sexual assault charges, 410 misdemeanor stalking charges, 6 felony stalking charges and 14,730 charges of violating a protection order. County Summaries Allegany County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Thomas P. Brown, opened in October 2006. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 372 cases for 81 families. The average case per family was 4.59 In 2009, the Allegany County IDV Court served 15 families in 74 Bronx County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Diane Kiesel, opened in October 2001. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 10,810 cases for 2,751 families. The average case per family was 3.93 In 2009, the Bronx County IDV Court served 199 families in 887 Broome County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Peter P. Charnetsky, opened in January 2006. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 655 cases for 88 families. The average case per family was 7.44 In 2009, the Broome County IDV Court served 34 families in 225 Cayuga County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Mark H. Fandrich and Hon. Thomas Leone, opened in November 2004. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 810 cases for 132 families. The average case per family was 6.14 In 2009, the Cayuga County IDV Court served 24 families in 160 Chautauqua County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Stephen W. The average case per family was 4.53 In 2009, the Cortland County IDV Court served 12 families in 55 Dutchess County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Joan Posner, opened in January 2007. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 375 cases for 108 families. The average case per family was 9.85 In 2009, the Franklin County IDV Court served 21 families with 218 Fulton County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Polly A. Hoye, opened in December 2005. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 523 cases for 60 families. The average case per family was 8.72 In 2009, the Fulton County IDV Court served 8 families with 93 Genesee County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Robert C. Noonan, opened in January 2007. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 164 cases for 37 families. The average case per family was 6.16 In 2009, the Oneida County IDV Court served 38 families in 262 Onondaga County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Michael L. Hanuszczak, opened in March 2003. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 3,846 cases for 852 families. The average case per family was 4.51 In 2009, the Onondaga County IDV Court served 144 families with 694 Ontario County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. William F. Kocher, opened in February 2007. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 184 cases for 28 families. The average case per family was 6.57 In 2009, the Ontario County IDV Court served 1 family and heard 28 Orange County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Debra J. The average case per family was 4.88 In 2009, the Orleans County IDV Court served 15 families in 80 Oswego County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Norman W. Seiter, Jr, opened in December 2005. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 536 cases for 84 families. The average case per family was 6.38 In 2009, the Oswego County IDV Court served 23 families with 166 Putnam County IDV Court, currently presided over by James T. Rooney, opened in February 2009. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 60 cases for 19 families. The average case per family was 3.16 Queens County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. William Harrington, opened in December 2003. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 7,461 cases for 1,542 families. The average case per family was 4.84 In 2009, the Queens County IDV Court served 265 families in 1,322 Rensselaer County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Catherine Cholakis, opened in October 2001. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 13,331 cases for 1,672 families. The average case per family was 7.97 In 2009, the Rensselaer County IDV Court served 90 families with 1,107 Richmond County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Catherine M. DiDomenico, opened in January 2004. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 2,373 cases for 567 families. The average case per family was 6.35 In 2009, the Steuben County IDV Court served 6 families with 42 Suffolk County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Andrew A. Crecca, opened in December 2001. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 4,226 cases for 699 families. The average case per family was 6.05 In 2009, the Suffolk County IDV Court served 77 families in 524 Suffolk/East End IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. James C. Hudson, opened in April 2009. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 59 cases for 13 families. The average case per family was 4.54 Tompkins County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. John C. Rowley and Hon. William Ames, opened in December 2003. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 2,239 cases for 314 families. The average case per family was 7.13 In 2009, the Tompkins County IDV Court served 39 families in 361 Westchester/Yonkers County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Thomas R. Daly and Hon. Robert Cerrato, opened in November 2004. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 1,594 cases for 302 families. The average case per family was 5.28 In 2009, the Westchester/Yonkers County IDV Court served 56 families in 274 Westchester/White Plains County IDV Court, currently presided over by Hon. Susan Capeci, opened in November 2001. Since its inception, it has handled a total of 2,390 cases for 552 families.
