REEF POLLING: LMS LTI INTEGRATION INSTRUCTOR GUIDE Synchronize your REEF Polling score totals REEF Polling uses Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) standards to publish scores from REEF to the LMS grade book with a single click of a button. This integration is an alternative to the manual export/import process with external CSV files. 1. Select your REEF Polling course and open the course settings. (Click either the gear icon in the side panel or the Edit button on your course dashboard.) 2. From the Settings window, select the LMS Sync tab and copy the course- specific link. 3. IMPORTANT: This link is unique for each REEF course. You need to follow these directions for each course you are teaching and paste the specific link into your corresponding LMS course.

4. Log into D2L to create the REEF- association link. (See the section on Create the REEF-association link in D2L Brightspace.) 5. Direct your students to use the REEF- association link. Students need to sign in to D2L and use the link you created to sign in to their REEF Polling account or create a new account if they don t already have one. a. Using the D2L link automatically adds your course to the student s account; the student won t have to search for your course to join it. b. Students only need to use the REEF- association link once to allow you to sync their score. Once the association is made, students may choose to go directly to the REEF Polling website or use the mobile app to use REEF Polling. c. Returning students choosing to use the REEF- association link will be automatically logged into REEF Polling through single sign- on (SSO) and taken directly to your course page. 6. Run polling sessions then synchronize your scores from the Roster dashboard. a. Click the Sync Scores to LMS button to synchronize your REEF Polling score totals. b. Students who have used the REEF- association will show a link icon in the LMS column. Whenever you sync your scores, you also send an email reminder to any student who has not yet used the REEF- association link. You can turn this option off in the LMS Sync tab of your Course Settings. Instructor Guide 2

Create the REEF- association link in D2L Brightspace No Admin Set- Up Required by the Instructor Your administrator has already prepared D 2L Brightspace for you to create the REEF- association link in your courses. Instructor Directions To create the REEF- association link in Desire2Learn: 1. From your course home page, click Edit Course from the top navigation. 2. From the Course Administration page, click the External Learning Tools option listed under Site a. Resources to set up a new REEF Polling tool. 3. From the External Learning Tools page that opens, click the New Link button. TIP: Before creating your link, check the Manage Tool Providers page to see if there is a launch point entry for gateway.mnv- tech.com. This entry means that your admin has set up the REEF Polling tool for your institution. Contact your admin if you do not see this launch point entry. 4. Complete the New Link form with the following information: a. Title: REEF Polling [recommended] b. URL: [paste the URL copied from your REEF Polling course settings] c. Description: [optional] i. Sign in or create a new REEF account if you don t already have one. Doing this from here will link your Desire2Learn and REEF identities for this course and allow me to synchronize your scores. d. Visibility: e. Key/Secret: Instructor Guide 3

f. Security Settings: Select all check boxes in this section. 5. Make link available to: Link should only be made available to the Current Org Unit (i.e. just the current course) 6. Click the Save button to save this tool link. 7. Click Content from the top navigation and select the module where you want place the REEF Polling tool link or create a new module. 8. From the module s Add Existing Activities menu, select External Learning Tools option. 9. From the Add Activity window that opens, click the REEF Polling link you just created. Instructor Guide 4

10. Direct your students to log into Desire2Learn and use that link to access REEF Polling. NOTE: Desire2Learn will automatically add a grade item to your grade book the first time you synchronize your student scores. The grade item will be worth 100 points. You can change the Maximum Points and Weight from the Edit Grade Item page; you must synchronize grades from REEF Polling to update scores if you make any changes. Access this page by going to the Grades page for your course and using the drop- down menu for the grade item. iclicker and REEF Polling Support iclicker offers student support and instructor support for both iclicker and REEF Polling.
