Your advisor must sign and date this application before forwarding it to the Department Chair. For prompt consideration, this application should be submitted to your academic advisor prior to April 1 the year you expect to begin the upper division mechanical engineering program. Please include unofficial transcripts for all academic work completed. Any transfer credits from other colleges or universities that you wish to apply to the BSCE degree must be evaluated by the appropriate academic department and approved by the Office of the Registrar. Please include a copy of your current DARS report to assist in this evaluation. MINIMUM ME PROGRAM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Admission to the Mechanical Engineering Program is selective and subject to approval of the department. A minimum of 48 semester credit hours as listed below must be completed prior to submitting the program application and being admitted to the mechanical engineering program. All of these credits must be taken for grade. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 (including grades from all repeated courses) must be achieved in these courses as well as a grade of C (2.00) or better in each course. General Physics Computer Programming and 8 semester hours (calculus based) Introduction to Design 2 semester hours Calculus and Differential Engineering Mechanics (Statics 16 semester hours Equations and Dynamics) 6 semester hours Introduction to Engineering 2 semester hours Electrical Engineering (Circuits including lab) 4 semester hours Computer Graphics 1 semester hours Chemistry 3 semester hours Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing in Engr. Design 1-2* semester hours English Composition 4 semester hours * Students admitted under a Bulletin before 2014 will be required to take the 1 credit ME113. Students admitted under the 2014-2015 Bulletin will be required to take the 2 credit ME203. For students currently enrolled at Minnesota State University, Mankato If you have only attended Minnesota State University, Mankato, this application form is submitted to the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department along with a copy of your MSU transcript and DARS obtained from the Hub (WA 143, ph. 389-1866). For students transferring credits from other colleges or universities Students may be able to complete the required pre-engineering curriculum at another college or university and have these courses and credits transferred to Minnesota State University, Mankato, when applying for admission. If you have transfer credits from another college or university, all transfer courses/credits must be evaluated by the Office of Admissions at Minnesota State University. All transfer students will be required to complete the upper division mechanical engineering course requirements at Minnesota State University. Variations in this policy will be considered only for exceptional cases where previous academic performance merits consideration. Admission to the program involves several steps, outlined below. I. Admission to the University The Office of Admissions will notify you regarding acceptance at the University. Admission to the University does not imply acceptance into the junior-level ME program. IMPORTANT: After the Office of Admissions receives your transcripts, you will receive a credit evaluation to show which courses meet MSU s pre-engineering requirements. II. Admission to the College of Science, Engineering and Technology a. Requirements: 1. Must have completed 32 semester credits of work. 2. Must have 2.0 cumulative grade point average. 3. Must have a permanent advisor in your major department and have discussed your program with that advisor. 4. Must have satisfied Math and English competency. b. Contact the Student Advising Center (TR C-125, ph. 389-1521) for application form and advisor assignment. c. Complete the application, have your advisor review and sign it, and then return it to the advising center to process. III. Admission to the Mechanical Engineering Program a. Complete this application form for admission to the Mechanical Engineering Program. b. Complete the Plan of Study (pg. 4 of this application) toward graduation in consultation with your advisor. c.
