EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OUR REGION IS A GREAT PLACE TO LAUNCH Students see Greater Philadelphia as a better place to launch than elsewhere. Philadelphia Excels in Internship Placement The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has reported that 61% of college students nationally report having an internship. For students at Greater Philadelphia colleges and universities, 79% of seniors reported having an internship while in college. Even one-quarter of freshmen reported that they ve had an internship. Students Are Confident in the Region s Job Market The majority of seniors agree with the statement I think I have a better chance of launching a career in Philadelphia than in other places. Only 18% of all students think there are better places than Philadelphia to find a job after college. Most Students, But Not Enough, Have Connections to Employers Just over half (58%) of students agree that they have the tools to build relationships with employers. Growth Over Salary Eager for challenges and forward movement, students are more likely to say opportunity for job growth is the number-one factor in evaluating a job offer, over the employer s mission, location, salary or company culture. WHO ANSWERED THE SURVEY? Survey respondents were slightly skewed toward upperclassmen. METHODOLOGY The survey was designed by Campus Philly and administered online from August through October 2016. Students were notified about the survey through their college staff and career-service offices, from Campus Philly emails and on social media. Each respondent could take the survey only one time. An incentive of a chance to win a Visa gift card was offered to respondents. Survey results were tabulated and statistical testing was conducted by an independent data analyst, RMC Data Inc. Campus Philly is solely responsible for the content of this report.
